Determining the priority criteria and ranking of provincial bridge maintenance in West Sumatra using a combination of the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process and VIKOR-Modification methods

There are many bridges that need to be maintained in a provincial road network, with limited funds for bridge maintenance, many bridge criteria (average daily traffic, economic benefits, fund budget, technical conditions, bridge hierarchy, spatial planning, flood potential, type of damage, erosion potential, age and surface concrete, etc.), and various levels of conditions, are a number of criteria that are taken into account in the decision making by the government as an institution responsible for the functioning of roads and bridges. The selection of bridge maintenance priorities in West Sumatra Province was decided through a coordination meeting between agencies, and sometimes relatively without going through sufficient technical analysis. This research initiated, the selected criteria to be taken into consideration, the order of the important criteria in the selected network segment. This study involved a number of road and bridge maintenance experts at the Ministry of Public Works, Road and Bridge Research and Development Institutions, as well as the Department of Public Works and Spatial Planning of West Sumatra Province. A combination of Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (to determine weighted criteria) and VIKOR-Modification methods (to determine the order of choice of bridges to be handled) are selected. There are eight criteria that can be used in determining the priority of bridge maintenance, and the priority sequence of the most important are: bridge technical conditions, aging of the bridge, average daily traffic, economic benefits, road function, budget, disaster risk (Flood, Landslides, Tsunamis) and Spatial Plans.

Irrigation Maintenance Priority Analysis (Case Study: Irrigation Areas in Salatiga City)

The absence of a standard reference and limited funds for determining the classification of irrigation maintenance and rehabilitation activities in the Salatiga become an important research nowadays. Budget funds for 14 irrigation areas come different sources. Those funds are limited only to support the maintenance activities, while the rehabilitation activities rely on funds from the provincial and central governments that are not easily to be approved. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse the classification and the priority of irrigation activities. In this research, the grouping analysis employs two assessment criterias, namely; physical condition of irrigation networks and irrigation performance indices. Assessment of irrigation performance indices according to PU Minister's Regulation Number 32/PRT/M/2007 is for technical irrigation status, therefore it is necessary to identify adjustments to existing conditions. The priority analysis of irrigation maintenance activities in this research uses Analytical Network Process (ANP) method. The criterias that are investigated are irrigation performance indices, area width, irrigation status, estimated cost and distance of warehouse to intake. In this research, 4 groups of identifying the classification of irrigation status, i.e. i) technical irrigation, ii) semi-technical irrigation with weir main building, iii) semi-technical irrigation with spring pond main building and iv) simple irrigation, are used. The results of the grouping analysis showed that 11 irrigation areas are included in irrigation maintenance activities. The results of the priority analysis of irrigation maintenance activities from the first to the last priority are; Kedungkopyah, Cengek, Kedawung, Andong, Banyuputih, Siluwing, Sijamban, Bonorejo, Siandran, Sijambe, and Plampeyan. By determining the priority of irrigation maintenance, the budget allocation will be more targetted.

Maintenance of the stadium has been done for the 18th Asian Games 2018. However, the previous maintenances were not comprehensive and held in the run up to the big events only. It affects the performance of its components utilities. A new local company was established by the Government of South Sumatra Province, in order to make a good maintenance of the stadium. However, the planned maintenance has not been actualized by the company yet. Many obstacles encountered in stadium maintenance, including regulatory, complexity of utilities, and stakeholder's influences. This paper aims to develop a maintenance system that is in accordance with existing conditions and applicable regulations. This study is devoted to electrical lighting systems because almost every week the stadium is also used for football matches. The methodology was divided into three parts, i.e.: rating for each parts of the utility, descriptive qualitative for regulatory identification, and stakeholders analysis, and they are developed to create a maintenance system. The result is a system that is proposed to find out the most important stakeholders in the maintenance of the highest priority of lighting utility based on official assessment.

Comparative study of asphalt concrete characteristic between ideal gradation and laboratory tested gradation with crumb rubber

Modifying asphalt concrete with using Crumb Rubber (CR) can provide environmental benefits. The method used in this study is an experimental laboratory with Mashall machine. The tests used two types of gradation, namely the gradations of Ideal and Laboratory Test. CR used in a mixture with a dry process method to replacement 0%, 5%, 15% and 20% of the weight aggregate at fraction No. 30 (0.6 mm). The results showed that the Ideal gradation mixture has a better characteristic than the mixture of laboratory tested gradations. Ideal gradations can increased stability into 10% from Laboratory Test gradations for mixture without CR. Addition of CR contect in AC mixture did not significantly effect for the characteristics. To ensure the effect of CR in mixture, further test must be taken.

The Effect of EPS Addition to Soil Stabilized with Fly Ash as Lightweight Fill Materials for Embankment Construction

Design and construction of road embankment presents several challenges, including the possibility of bearing capacity failure, large total settlement, differential settlement, and slope instability, which may result from the weight of the embankment construction itself, and/or weak foundation. A number of techniques have been developed and can be used to overcome these problems, one of them is by modifying the weight of the embankment itself with the use of lightweight materials, such as soil-EPS mixture. The use of soil-EPS mixture as lightweight material provides several advantages, among which can achieve the same volume or elevation requirement with a significantly lighter weight compared to ordinary materials, improving slope stability, embankment over high compressibility soil, and to reduce soil pressure to soil retaining structures, abutment or bridge pillar. Fly ash also added to act as binder to increase shear strength of mixture. The result of the compaction test shows that the addition of a small amount of EPS to the mixture can significantly reduce the maximum dry density of the mixture. Triaxial UU and UCS test results show a reduction in mixture strength as EPS contents increase, but due to the presence of fly ash increases the strength of mixture as the number of day increases, so that the use of lightweight materials has the potential to be one of soil improvement solutions.

Experimental study on the effectiveness of finger joint with variations in wood species toward bending strength of glulam beams

Recently, the utilization of timber as building materials was very promising for now and future. As renewable resources they have high mechanical properties, lightweight, environmentally friendly and economic. One of the most durable engineered wood products is glued-laminated timber which commonly called Glulam. Glulam is a material made of several layers of wood glued together with waterproof adhesive at specific pressure and temperature. The benefit of Glulam is enable to produce the structural member with longer span compared with solid wood. In other to obtain the structural Glulam with longer span, it required the finger joint connection on lamina layer. This study aims at to find out the effectiveness finger joint with variation in wood species towards flexural properties of Glulam beam. Experimental study have been done by using local wood Sengon and Rajumas as laminae and Biomatex as adhesive, at 0.6 MPa of clamp pressure. The variation of finger joint slope was tested are 1:8; 1:12; and 1:16. The result show that the glulam Sengon and Rajumas beam with slope finger joint of 1 over 12 produce the highest average bending strength of 299 kg/cm2 and 318 kg/cm2 respectively. The flexural strength of glulam Rajumas was 20% higher compared with glulam Sengon.

Denitrifying polyphosphate accumulating organisms (DPAOs), are capable of nitrate and/or nitrite (NO2-) reduction coupled to P uptake when subjected to alternating anaerobic/anoxic conditions. However, strong accumulation of nitrous oxide (N2O) has been previously observed in DPAO enrichments under high NO2- concentrations. To date, denitrification capability and denitrifying P uptake rates of DPAOs using different electron acceptors after long-term exposure to elevated NO2- concentration hasn't been examined. To address this knowledge gap, we operated a lab-scale SBR under alternating anaerobic/anoxic conditions with high nitrite feed for >2 years. Ex-situ batch assays were performed to clarify capacity for reduction of various nitrogen oxides and P uptake of the DPAOs enrichment culture. These batch assays revealed distinct nitrogen oxides reduction and denitrifying P uptake capabilities. High-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing combined with qPCR assays revealed the selection of putative DPAOs and other potential denitrifying microbial consortia responsible for N2O accumulation under high nitrite-feeding regimes. Free vibration of orthotropic Levy-type solution plates by using SEM

Orthotropic Levy-type solution plates considering shear deformation were solved by using the Spectral Element Method (SEM). In SEM, the exact solution of structural dynamic related problems can be solved by using the frequency-dependent shape functions. The solutions of SEM are accurate in decreasing the amount of Degree Of Freedoms (DOF) to discard the cost and computational disadvantages in the Finite Element Method (FEM). This study investigates the free vibration problems of orthotropic Levy-type solution plates solutions based on the two variable Refined Plate Theory (RPT). SEM for orthotropic Levy-type solution plates in the frequency domain was formulated to solve free vibration problems. The differential governing equations of the orthotropic plate element in SEM are formulated into the form of transcendental stiffness matrices. The boundary conditions of the spectral element model consist of four edge-type DOFs at each side of the orthotropic Levy-type solution plates. The natural frequencies of the plate are calculated by means of the Wittrick-Williams procedure. The numerical investigations are presented to show the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of SEM without any discretization scheme.

Air pollutant exposure has been shown to exacerbate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) manifestations, such as increased respiratory episodes and intermittent oxygen desaturation. However, most studies have focused on episode frequency rather than duration. This study investigated the associations between air pollution and OSA manifestations using both frequency-based indices and the duration-based marker lung-to-finger circulation time (LFCT). Polysomnography data from 820 individuals with suspected OSA (mild-to-moderate: n = 224; severe: n = 596) were analyzed. Sleep disorder indices included the apnea–hypopnea index (AHI), oxygen desaturation index (ODI), arousal index, and mean LFCT. A novel composite metric, respiratory event response time area (RERTA), defined as the square root of the product of LFCT and AHI, was introduced to evaluate the interplay between frequency and duration. Air pollutant exposure was estimated using data from monitoring stations within 4 km of the registered residences of the study cohort. Multivariable Poisson regression models were employed to assess short-term (1-month) and long-term (1-year) exposure effects. Short-term PM 2.5 and NO 2 exposure were significantly associated with increased AHI, ODI, arousal index, and reduced LFCT. Long-term exposure to PM 2.5 , PM 10 , and NO 2 was associated with increased AHI and ODI, while PM 2.5 and PM 10 were linked to reduced LFCT. Both short- and long-term O 3 exposure were associated with increased AHI and ODI. PM 2.5 and O 3 (short-term) were positively associated with RERTA. These findings suggest that air pollution exacerbates OSA by increasing episode frequency and accelerating compensatory responses, thereby elevating cardiopulmonary burden as reflected by RERTA.

In 2017, dockless bikeshare systems were introduced in the United States, followed by dockless scootershare in early 2018. These new mobility options are expected to complement the existing station-based bikeshare systems, which are bound to static origin and destination points at docking stations. The three systems attract different users with different travel behavior mobility patterns. The present research provides a comparative analysis of users' behavior for these three shared mobility systems during March-May 2018 in the District of Columbia. Our study identifies similarities/differences between the two systems aiming for better planning, operating, and decision-making of these emerging personal shared mobility systems in the future. It uses logistic regression and random forest modeling to delineate between "member" behavior, which aligns most closely with commuter behavior, and "casual" behavior that represents more recreational behavior. The results show that 63.8% of dockless bike users and 69.6% of dockless scooter users demonstrated "member" behavior, which is slightly lower than the actual percentage of trips made by members within the conventional bikeshare system (73.3%). Dockless systems users also showed to have short trip durations similar to conventional bikeshare system's registered members, with no significant difference between trips during weekdays and weekends. Overall, this study provides a methodology to understand users' behavior for the dockless bikeshare system and provides sufficient evidence that these new shared mobility systems can potentially make positive contributions to urban multi-modal infrastructure by promoting bicycle usage for urban daily travel.
