An extended finite element method (XFEM) for fracture problem within the finite element software ABAQUS is adopted in order to investigate the mechanical properties and fracture behaviour of RPC material. The RPC materials observed are plain RPC of 0% and steel fiber RPC (SFRPC) of 2% volume fraction. Single edge notch three-point bending (TPB) tests of RPC materials are performed. The mechanical properties of RPC with respect to single edge notch TPB test, i.e. tensile stress, CMOD, and fracture energy obtained from experiment are then compared to those obtained from numerical analysis. A good agreement is observed between the experimental and numerical results. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Mode choice analysis of passenger transport at train station using stated preference method

Tourists at Solo Balapan Station have several options for continuing their journey, including private, semi-private, and public vehicles. Despite the fact that Batik Solo Trans (BST) Corridor II is one of the modes of public transportation available at this location, it is still infrequently used. The goal of this research is to identify the factors that influence mode selection and to develop a model. This study employs statistical analysis to investigate passengers’ socioeconomic and travel characteristics, as well as methods for expressing preferences regarding ticket attributes, headway, and service level. Questionnaires were distributed at nearby stations and bus stops to collect data from 240 respondents. The binomial logit model was used to analyze the mode selection model. According to the stated preference method, respondents believe that the IDR 3500 fare, 10 minutes of headway, and Wi-Fi will persuade passengers to choose BST. Private-Online, Private-BST, and Online-BST are other binary logit models. If the costs of private vehicles and online transportation are the same, 52% of respondents will choose private vehicles, according to the results of the binary-difference logit modeling. Similarly, if the costs of BST and private vehicles are comparable, 70% of respondents will choose private vehicles. If the BST and online transportation costs are the same, however, 38 percent will choose online transportation. The logit-ratio modeling results also show the previously mentioned conditions. If the cost ratio is one, the three alternatives listed above are obtained in the following order: 52% prefer private vehicles in Alternative 1, 63% prefer BST in Alternative 2, and the same percentage prefer online transportation in Alternative 3. The results of preference analysis show that if the value of the BST attribute is changed, the percentage of passengers who choose BST increases.

There are so many areas in Indonesia that are prone to landslides. Bogor is the regency with the most frequent landslides. Therefore, high community preparedness is needed to deal with the landslide, especially at the household level because it is the spearhead of preparedness and influence disaster risk. The objective of this research is to measure and analyze the level of household preparedness for facing landslide. The location of this research is in Cibadak Village, Bogor regency where a landslide disaster had happened. This is a quantitative research. The number of the samples were 100 household. Data collection was done by surveying samples and distributing questionnaires. The data would be analyzed with descriptive analysis, and the results of level of household preparedness would be categorized to five levels which were very prepared (80-100), prepared (65-79), almost prepared (55-64), less prepared (40-54), and not prepared (0-39). The results of the research are the average index value of Knowledge and Attitude (KA) parameter is 66.77, Emergency Planning (EP) parameter is 52.24, Warning System (WS) parameter is 64.80, Resources Mobilization Capacity (RMC) parameter is 51.25 and the level of household preparedness for facing landslide is 59.26 or and it is significant at the almost prepared level. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A Bayesian network approach to causation analysis of road damage

Roads are essential in connecting economic and industrial centres and between regions and countries. However, the condition of road stability is only 73.34%, where national roads are 89.33%, provincial roads are 70.81%, district roads are 57.22%, and city roads are 75.98%, even though the government has budgeted quite a lot for road repairs for surveys and inspections as well as road maintenance and repairs. It shows that road maintenance and monitoring still need to be precise. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a road damage model to determine the influence and contribution of each variable that causes road damage to road damage. This model is structured based on data collection using a Bayesian network approach. The collected data is randomly grouped into two groups where 80% of the data is used to generate the model, and the rest is used to validate the model. The observation data is categorized into three conditions, Good, Moderate, and Fail, where the road is declared stable if it is in the Good and Moderate categories while not stable if the road condition is damaged. This model assumes that road conditions are influenced by the condition of the road shoulder, drainage, and road pavement, while the surface course, base course, and subgrade influence the pavement. The research results show that this Bayesian network model can estimate road conditions based on variables that cause road damage. The pavement condition strongly influences the most significant contribution to road damage, while drainage and road shoulders have a relatively slight influence. The pavement condition is greatly influenced by the subgrade, base course, and surface course, with contribution influences in the order above. For this reason, monitoring the pavement as the primary target and the condition of drainage and road shoulders as the following program is necessary for road management. Improvement building permit service based on quality function deployment

The government supports efforts to improve the processing of Building Approval (PBG) permits and Functional Worthiness Certificates (SLF) by issuing a web-based service, namely the Building Information System (SIMBG). However, this activity still experiences many obstacles due to the need for more public knowledge and awareness of the importance of PBG and SLF. Apart from that, the implementation process also experienced many obstacles, namely inappropriate service times, service quality, and standards that were considered lacking, many needed to learn the procedures and requirements needed, an imbalance between the number of applicants and verification officers, and others. Therefore, studies must be conducted to improve services following stakeholder standards and needs. This research uses the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method to determine the relationship between the applicant’s needs and the technical response that can be provided so strategies for improving PBG and SLF services can be determined. The results show several obstacles to the publishing process, including minimal public participation, many data completeness requirements, minimal human resources, and a lack of service personnel. Based on the obstacles that occur, strategies that need to be taken can be determined: (i) increasing the socialization of online services by providing information regarding access to SOPs and requirements for speeding up the administration process; (ii) improving more adequate services such as adding service personnel; (iii) carry out outreach and training to both applicants and verification officers; and (iv) ensure there are no changes to regulations and guarantee data privacy security.

Climate change has affected the whole world and caused disasters, include drought. Since Tana Mbanas village in Central Sumba District is the driest remote area in eastern region of Indonesia, gender inequality has affected in daily life of people in the village instead of other social and environmental problems. This research aimed to evaluate how gender mainstreaming implemented in drought disaster risk reduction in Tana Mbanas village in Central Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The result of the research is expected to become a mirror that reflects Sumba island gender and development issues. The research took place in Tana Mbanas village in Central Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, and conducted by qualitative method with purposive data sampling. The steps taken in the research were observation, data collecting by questionnaire and in-depth interview to respondents, and literature review. It was reported that Tana Mbanas village people has given water management assistance by village fund, conducting water management counselling, saving water, and harvesting rain systems in every household. This research meets conclusions that: (1) Several programs and planned actions in water supply system and infrastructure development have become initiatives of government agencies of village authorities, BPBD and Public Work Agency of Central Sumba Regency;(2) People demonstrated vulnerability to drought as well as lack of water supply and also water resources;(3) Strong efforts should be conducted to educate people and increase women capacity in coping issues of poverty, drought, and lack of water supply;and (4) Government agencies and other private institutions have to build women capacity as their participation in enhancing gender equality and mainstreaming gender. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this study, we presented the defect identification analysis based on the level-set type topology optimization using hammering testing data. To simulate the oscillation behavior of concrete structure, the equation of motion in three dimensions is introduced as the governing equation. The performance function is defied by the time integral of the squared residual between the computed and observed displacements. The problem is to find the defect topologies so as to minimize the performance function. In the model with a small number of observation points, it was found that nonexistent defects disappeared by using the weighted sensitivity method. In addition, it was confirmed that the model with a large number of observation points did not show the same tendency as the model with a small number of observation points because the accuracy of defect identification increased as the number of observation points increased. © 2023

Most of the seismic damage of existing traditional buildings is due to the absence of practical beam and column structures as the main reinforcement of the building. While a masonry wall as a structural component is commonly negligible due to their relatively low strength in contributing to the frame structure. As a result, when the earthquake struck, the building collapsed, and the ruins of building elements hit the occupants seriously and caused many deaths. This paper presents the results of preliminary research on the experimental investigation of interlocking concrete block for the masonry wall applied to non-engineered earthquake-resistant buildings. The interlocking between concrete blocks is expected to contribute to the strength of the masonry wall in resisting the loads, either in-plane or out-of-plane directions. The novelty of this type of concrete block lies in the uniqueness of the interlocking shape, making it effective in withstanding the earthquake load. This research focuses on the testing of interlocking concrete block units in withstanding loads in the direction and perpendicular to the field and equipped with testing the compressive strength of the wall and diagonal shear strength. The results produce interlocking models of concrete block contribute to better strength than ordinary clay bricks for the masonry wall. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

The tension stiffening stress-strain relationship of concrete in tension, newly developed test methods and implementation

Research on the compression behavior of concrete has been widely carried out, on the other hand, information about the behavior of concrete in tension was limited. The existing concrete tension tests are the splitting, direct tensile, and rupture tests. These methods provide information on the tensile strength of concrete through concrete tension stiffening tests. This paper aims to elaborate on the experimental study to develop and construct the equation of concrete tensile strength based on the tension stiffening effect mechanism. The basic principle of this newly proposed method was the composite action between steel and concrete. The straight and continuous steel bar was embedded in concrete to ensure no eccentricity that could interfere with research data due to the bending moment. 45 Specimens made from cylinder concrete with 101.6 mm diameter and 450 mm length, steel bar embedded at the center of the section. Three concrete mixes with actual compressive strength of 31.66 MPa, 40.27 MPa, and 46.60 MPa and steel bar diameters of 15.9 mm, 18.7 mm, and 21.7 mm were used as variables. The test was performed by applying an incremental tensile loading at both ends of the steel specimen with a load rate of 5-10 kN/minute to obtain a force-displacement relationship. The curve must be lessened with steel bar response to get the load-displacement of tension concrete, and then by dividing load with concrete area and displacement with the length of both LVDT can be generated stress-strain of tension concrete. This study shows that the tension-stiffening effect is affected by the reinforcement ratio. Where the reinforcement ratio increases, the tension-stiffening decreases. The steel bar to concrete-area ratio higher tends to more cracks. The concrete tensile strength of this research is taken from the stress of the first crack indicates very close to the direct tensile test but slightly higher.

The comparison of road network performance before and after the implementation of one-way system using prediction model

One-way traffic networks maybe force drivers to bypass blockages to reach their destinations, potentially increasing trip distances. However, it is beneficial for anticipating some traffic problems in most urban traffic conditions—only a few studies concerned the regression approach for predicting road network performance models. As a result, this research aims to use the regression method to forecast the performance model of the road network before and after one-way traffic system implementation. The derived model equations are compared to see which ones substantially impact the road network’s performance. This study relies on secondary data from performance assessments of 26 roads before and after the system during morning peak hours of 06:30–07:30 AM. The independent variables (X) are data from segment analysis used, i.e., Volume (X1), Speed (X2), and Volume (X4), whereas the dependent variable (Y) is Level of Service. By attempting the model prediction multivariate linear regression modeling before the system, Y = 5.647 – 4.376X1+0.009X2+0.0003X4 tend better than others. It provided a more significant impact on LOS than other models provided by R-value 0.951 is higher than the other models. The R-square value is 0.904, which means that 90.4% of LOS is influenced by DS, V, and Q factors. Further research is needed to conduct in the form of additional other factors that can affect LOS.
