The truss bridge is a type of bridge that is widely used in Indonesia because of its practicality and can be constructed in short period of time. The relatively light weight of the truss bridge structure also facilitates the transportation of superstructure materials to bridge locations located in remote areas. The dimensions of the large truss bridge and the relatively light weight cause the figure bridge to be vulnerable to wind loads. Meanwhile, the bridge loading regulations including wind load is continuing to change. Previous design code BMS 1992 and SNI T 02 2005 has been superseded with SNI 1725 2016. One of the main changes to the loading regulations is related to the magnitude and how wind loads are calculated and applied to the bridge structure. This study will compare the magnitude of the wind load in the previous loading regulations in Indonesia with the latest regulations and also with wind loading according to AASHTO on steel truss bridges. A 60-class standard steel truss bridge from the Ministry of Public Works which is used for Case Study. The results showed that there was a significant increase in wind loading by applying SNI 1725 2016 loading regulations

The Structural Health Monitoring System is part of tool and method for bridge operation and maintenance to make sure that the bridge is in good condition. Deflection is one of the main parameters to be measured and various methods has been introduced to measure deflection. Accuracy and economically are two main aspects when selecting the method for determine the real time deflection. This study presents a method of determining the maximum deflection of simple span continuous bridge using strain data obtained from a strain gauge sensor for simple span steel box girder bridge. Initial data were obtained from FEM simulations under various load conditions to obtain the maximum deflection value and the strain value. Linear regression and quadratic regression were carried out to obtain the relationship between the strains data and the maximum deflection. The accuracy of the maximum deflection value is then compared with the results of the analysis using FEM. It was found that the accuracy is about 91.16 % for quadratic regression and 9.07 for linear regression 90.93 %.

The movement of students requires means of a comfortable preferred mode of transportation with a high level of satisfaction. The aim of this research is to identify the characteristics of student trips in the city of Semarang, and to find out the factors for the transfer of motorcycleuse to the Trans Semarang BRT, and to determine steps to improve the choice of transportation modes for the Trans Semarang BRT. The study population was students of Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Negeri Semarang and Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo. The sample was taken using a quota sampling technique, and the data was collected using a questionnaire. The results showed that the average trip frequency was one time per day, the average distance traveled was 5-6 km. Travel time is 20-29 minutes for motorcycleusers and 30-39 minutes for BRT Trans Semarang users. On the reason for choosing the mode there is a difference where students choose the motorcycle mode due to speed and practical factor, while students choose the BRT Trans Semarang mode because it is cheap. The dominant factor affecting the transfer of motorcycle to the Trans Semarang BRT towards the campus of students in the city of Semarang is that if on the way from the bus stop to the final destination there is no need to change transportation, there is a Passenger Information System at each stop, and a maximum waiting time of 5 minutes. Increasing the travel time is a step to improve the choice of transportation mode for the Trans Semarang BRT.

Floods often occur in Padang City, mainly in the areas of Pasia Nan Tigo Village and Lubuk Buaya Village, caused by the overflow of Batang Kandis when heavy rains occur (intensity of rainfall >15mm/hours). To decrease the river overflow an artificial canal with 300 m long and 50 m wide (floodway) was constructed to bypassing the river flow from the Batang Kandis River to the ocean. In order to find out the effects of the floodway, four scenarios are performed the scenario 1 and 2 were the simulation condition of Batang Kandis River before and after the construction of floodway. While to increase the effectiveness of floodway, simulations 3 and 4 were carried out. Scenario 3 was the combination of floodway with normalization and embankment. To prevent the entry of seawater into the Batang Kandis River, because the floodway is affected by the tide of the sea, then 3-door motion weir was simulated namely scenario 4. Scenario 4 was the combination of floodway normalization, embankment, and a 3 door motion weir. From the simulations, we found that the floodway was effective to decrease the water surface level up to 15 m and 20 m during 10 years and 25 year return period of discharge respectively. From the scenario 3, we found that the embankment with 1.5 m and 2 m was effective to prevent overflow by 10-year and 25-year return period of discharge respectively. While for scenario 4 the water level rises 0.5 m due to motion weir So, that it is needed to extend the embankment with 0,5m high. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd.

This article is a structural record of the houses of the parish head of Paccha in the city of Cuenca in Ecuador, sectors that are classified as high risk areas by landslides, whose objective is to evaluate the real and current structural situation of the houses, through a visual analysis where all the characteristics of the structural system, the quality and the year of construction can be rescued; in order to find the structural damage index through the structural monitoring methodology established by the company Consultores en Ingeniería y Medio Ambiente CI Ambiental SAS. In addition, the characteristics of the structures will be reflected in georeferenced maps in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program to obtain a database of the current state of the houses integrated to the current zoning of the landslide risk levels established by the “PLAN DE ORDENAMIENTO TERRITORIAL DEL AÑO 2020” of the Paccha parish. Finally, a comparison is made between the landslide risk level established in the existing risk map and the effects caused by this phenomenon on the structures, in order to analyze the behavior of the structures of known characteristics in the different risk levels in each evaluation zone.

Stabilization of Soft Clay from Bukit Rawi using Portland Composite Cement

One method for stabilizing soft clay is to mix it with cement. Portland composite cement (PCC) is a cement produced by grinding together portland slag and gypsum with one or more inorganic materials that is suitable for stabilization of soft soils. The purpose of this study was to mix soft clay from Bukit Rawi, Central Kalimantan with PCC, which was then tested for unconfined compression strength (UCS) and the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) to see if it could be used as a road subgrade. Soft soil from Bukit Rawi was mixed with PCC with percentages of 6%, 8%, 10%, and 12% on a dry weight basis. The mixture was tested by Proctor standard compaction to obtain the optimum moisture content and maximum dry density. At these optimum conditions, UCS and CBR tests were carried out. The findings reveal that adding PCC to Bukit Rawi soil enhances UCS and CBR, which were previously 3.47% of CBR and 0.67kg/cm2 of UCS. The addition of PCC with a level of 2‒3% is planned for field application, because it is considered capable of fulfilling the requirements as a subgrade layer with a CBR of 15%. Furthermore, 12 percent PCC is required in the combination as a foundation (minimum 20kg/cm2 of UCS).

Indonesia currently is facing an energy crisis due to depletion of oil reserves and rapid growth in conventional energy consumption. The declining fossil energy potential especially oil and gas has encouraged the government to put new renewable energy(NRE) as the main priority to maintain energy security for national supply in the future. NRE in Indonesia is generated from bioenergy power, hydro power, solar power, tidal power, wind power, and potential. However, NRE utilization in Indonesia is only about 11% from the total potential. This study assesses the hydropower production capacity of Ayung River Basin, the biggest Basin in Province of Bali. The assessment is carried out by utilizing global data that can be easily accessed. It was found that there are several potential mini-hydropower locations around the Ayung River Basin, with the biggest potential is around 2 MW.

In general, small-scale gold mining activities that are spread throughout Indonesia practicing amalgamation technique. The amalgamation process in the mining activities can result in environmental degradation due to tailing waste containing mercury that are discharged into the environment and will distributed and bioaccumulated through food chain. Mercury exposure to human can give a chronic effect. Measuring mercury concentration in biomarkers such as nail and hair is a method to indicate the mercury poisoning level. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze mercury concentrations in nail and hair as chronic exposure biomarkers. Besides, we also conducted Human Biomonitoring (HBM) analysis to assess mercury intoxication in the communities. Moreover, we analyzed mercury concentrations in water, rice, fish, and food crops samples to understand their association with mercury concentrations in nail and hair through a Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake (PTWI) analysis. This research was conducted in 4 districts in Indonesia which has a significant number of small-scale gold mining activities. The results showed that the maximum concentration of T-Hg in the nail and hair of the workers was 58.48 μg/g and 55.97 μg/g, respectively. Based on HBM analysis, in several districts, more than 60% of the workers has been intoxicated by mercury. Meanwhile, Average Daily Intake (ADI) and PTWI were significantly correlated with concentration mercury in the nail and hair. Mercury concentrations in worker's hair was significantly correlated with working experience. We identified that the age and residence duration were the major predictor of concentration mercury in nail and hair, respectively. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Chlorophenols (CPs) are priority pollutants which persist in the environment for up to 28 years. The release of Chlorophenol derivatives into aquatic environments poses serious risks to living beings because of their mutagenic, carcinogenic, genotoxic, and teratogenic effects. This study highlights the first application of a Sponge Membrane Bioreactor (Sponge-MBR) for treating 3,4-Dichlorophenol (3,4-DCP)-contaminated wastewater. Herein, a lab-scale Sponge-MBR was conducted to treat 3,4-DCP-contaminated wastewater at various hydraulic retention times (HRTs) ranging from 5 to 15 h in terms of organic matter and 3,4-DCP removal, and microbial community shifts. The sludge characteristics were also performed. Results showed that a rise in HRT at 5, 10 and 15 h increased the removal efficiencies of COD (84 – 94%) and 3,4-DCP (90 – 96%). Under 30-day operation period at optimal HRT (15 h), corresponding to OLR of 2.84 ± 0.18 kg COD·m-3·day-1, the removal efficiencies of both 3,4-DCP and COD were 96% with the average removal rate of 356 ± 83 mg COD·g-SS-1·day-1 and 1.62 ± 0.38 mg 3,4-DCP·g-SS-1·day -1. The attached biomass in sponge media was recorded higher than suspended biomass and contributed 49 – 66% of the total biomass, indicating that the microbial community shifts could degrade organic matter and remove 3,4-DCP. Proteobacteria dominated the microbial community because of their adaptability to environmental changes. The findings derived from this study provide useful perspectives on the application of Sponge-MBR treating 3,4-DCP-contaminated wastewater and offer Sponge-MBR as a potential alternative for treating wastewater contaminated with toxic chemicals. © 2024, The Authors. A sustainable drainage system is one of the right methods in dealing with floods in cities, including in Karanganyar. The parameters of technology selection problems planned with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) are technical, economic, environmental, social/cultural, and technology: infiltration wells with drainage channels, rainwater harvesting with drainage channels, and dry swale. Rainfall data is used in this research. The area used is planning, budget planning, and AHP method steps with hierarchical compilation, pairwise comparisons, priority values, testing consistency, and data obtained from technology selection questionnaires filled with related institutions. The most influential criteria in the choice drainage system technology are environmental criteria 49%, technical 33%, economy 12%, and social/cultural 5%. The priority technology is rainwater harvesting with drainage channels with a percentage of 37.3%, infiltration wells with drainage channels 35.2%, and dry swale 27.4%.
