Adaptive Time Step for Cardiac Myocyte Models

The modeling of the electrical activity of the heart is of great medical and scientific interest as it provides a way to better understand the underlying biophysical phenomena, supports the development of new techniques for diagnoses and serves as a platform for drug tests. At cellular level, the electrical activity of cardiac myocytes may be simulated by solving a system of ordinary di_erential equations (ODEs) describing the electrical behavior of the cell membrane. Because the biophysical processes underlying this phenomenon are non-linear and change very rapidly, the ODE system is challenging to solve numerically. Furthermore, the implementation of these models is a hard task. This paper presents a tool to describe models using Ordinary Differential Equations. It is based on CellML standard and automatically generates C++ source-code, with numerical methods to solve the model's equations. The aim of this work is to present a numerical method with adaptive time step based on the Euler Method and Second Order Runge-Kutta method. The proposed method accelerated the execution and kept numerical errors under control. Preliminary results suggest this adaptive method is up to 25 times faster than the explicit Euler method with fixed time step.

Machine Learning is an artificial intelligence system, where the system has the ability to learn automatically from experience without being explicitly programmed. The learning process from Machine Learning starts from observing the data and then looking at the pattern of the data. The main purpose of this process is to make computers learn automatically. In this study, we will use Machine Learning to predict molecular atomization energy. From various methods in Machine Learning, we use two methods namely Neural Network and Extreme Gradient Boosting. Both methods have several parameters that must be adjusted so that the predicted value of the atomization energy of the molecule has the lowest possible error. We are trying to find the right parameter values for both methods. For the neural network method, it is quite difficult to find the right parameter value because it takes a long time to train the model of the neural network to find out whether the model is good or bad, while for the Extreme Gradient Boosting method the time needed to train the model is shorter, so it is quite easy to find the right parameter values for the model. This study also looked at the effects of the modification on the dataset with the output transformation of normalization and standardization then removing molecules containing Br atoms and changing the entry in the Coulomb matrix to 0 if the distance between atoms in the molecule exceeds 2 angstrom. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. This paper proposes a method to estimate the posture of an athlete moving on a vast field in a sporting event using a pan-tilt-zoom camera. In order to estimate the posture of an athlete on a sports field from a dynamic video sequence, our method extracts image features to search correspondence points among successive frames and computes the homography transformation matrix that compensates for changes the camera parameters (e.g., angle of view and posture). The effectiveness of this method is qualitatively verified using MLB TV broadcast video. The accuracy and error factors are also quantitatively verified by CG simulation. On the assessment of user experience in VR traffic environments, a method to evaluate the mental state of subjects is required to measure the effects of dynamic events in the traffic environments. EEG is one of the promising devices for measuring the subject mental status. We propose to analyze EEG responses against traffic scenes, including traffic accidents, for the evaluation of the surprise feelings of subjects in VR traffic environments by a set of HMD and an EEG device. Throughout the experiments, we examined whether EEG can evaluate subjects’ emotional states in response to the events in VR space. Three traffic scenes and 10 subjects were prepared for the experiment. The EEG analysis was made on beta frequency band power related to surprise response. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

A molecular docking was performed in this research by using ArgusLab version 4.0.1. It was used to explore the capability of Calixarene analogs for aromatic amine extraction. There are 6 Calixarene analogs used in this research, i.e. Calixpyrrole, Calixpyridine, Thiacalixarene, Heterocalixaromatic, Calixcarbazole and Calixnaphtalene;and the aromatic amine used in this research are Aniline, 4-Chloroaniline, Toluene-2,4-diamine, 2-Naphtylamine, 4,4'-Metylenbis(2-chloroaniline), 4,4'-Metylendianiline, N-Nitrosodiphenylamine, Benzidine, 2-Aminobiphenyl, 2-Amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo [4,5-b] Pyridine, 3-Trifluoromethylaniline, p-Phenylendiamine, o-Toluidin, 4-Chloro-o-toluidin. In this molecular docking simulation, the guest molecule of aromatic amine compounds were treated as ligand and host molecule of calixarene and its analogs were treated as binding site. This molecular docking simulation used AScore scoring function, binding sitebox size for host molecule with grid size of 0.4 Å, GA docking engine with flexible ligand, 50 population sizes, 1000 max generations, 5 elitisms, 0.2 mutation rate, and 0.8 crossover rate. Calixcarbazole and Calixnaphthelene is the best host molecule for aromatic amines extraction because the inclusion complexes formed between them have negative value of binding energy. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The Calixarene analogs used in this research are Calixpyrrole, Calixpyridine, Thiacalixarene, Heterocalixaromatic, Calixcarbazole and Calixnaphtalene;and the aromatic amine used in this research are Aniline, 4-Chloroaniline, Toluene-2,4-diamine, 2-Naphty lamině, 4,4'-Mety lenbis(2-chloroaniline), 4,4'-Metylendianiline, N-Nitrosodiphenylamine, Benzidine, 2-Aminobiphenyl, 2-Amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b] Pyridine, 3-Trifluoromethylaniline, p-Phenylendiamine, o-Toluidin, 4-Chloro-o-toluidin. The most suitable host molecule of calixarene analogs for extraction of aromatic amine compounds are Calixnaphthalene and Calixpyridine because all of aromatic amine compounds form inclusion complex with them spontaneously shown by negative value of binding energy. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

System of semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill is modeled in this work based on circular-disk objects, which represents not only the ground materials but also the mill liners. Interaction between these objects is through linear spring dash-pot force, which is solved numerically in soft-sphere scheme using molecular dynamics (MD) method. There is also force due to earth gravity. For ground materials a grain consists of several smaller grains, which are attached through some adhesive force. As the ground materials are smashed to the mill liners, when they reach maximum compression, they will be shattered into the smaller grains. Shattering process happens in a special materials motion known as cataracting mode. Friction is not considered in this work due to its complexity. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Forest fires have been detected to occur in Indonesia since 1998. The forest fires mostly resulted from human activities in order to expand their land, especially oil palm lands. Once a land clearing is carried out, it covers areas of tens to hundreds of thousands of hectares. The peak of the forest fires occurred in 2015 when almost half of the world was affected especially by smoke from the fire. In 2011, VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) was launched by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). In their collected data, there is data on Indonesia issued daily for areas in the islands of Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and the general areas of Indonesia. The VIIRS night data shows the possibility of some burning at night. We need to identify burnings that potentially become fires, which are potentially producing smoke. It is important to observe areas where large-scale forest fires frequently occur, so the authority could do some prevention beforehand. Using existing data released per day per area, we utilize an ANN (Artificial Neural Network) to identify a potential fire. The processes start with data cleaning and processing, Neural Network creation, and finally ANN training and testing. By using the ANN prediction model with the MinMax Scaler, we choose variables Temperature, Radiant Heat Intensity, and Source Footprint. Simulations are made to show the ranges of these variables that predict the possibility of’flame’ status occurring. We conclude that the ANN method can give more accurate results than the existing classification. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.
