For microscopic cells images, cells’ morphologies are widely varied among different imaging modalities and staining methods. For fluorescence microscopy images, Poisson noises present in images due to the lightening, causing photobleaching, which makes it challenging in analysis with the deep learning models. Traditionally, median filtering can be applied to the original image for denoising, however, it also results in a blurry image, which is harmful to segmentation. In this study, the Haar Wavelet Transform is used to alleviate the photobleaching problem for cell segmentation, integrated to the framework without interfering with feature extraction by the backbone model. For our experiments, instance segmentation for fluorescence-stained cells was performed based on U-Net architecture with the method of gradient flow tracking proposed by Cellpose. And the Haar wavelet downsampling is embedded in the skip connections to verify if it can improve the segmentation performance for fluorescence images. The experimental results show that the approach of Haar wavelet downsampling embedded in the skip connections achieve superior performance among the other settings. Compared with the performance of the baseline model, the performance of the proposed model reached 0.732 in F1-score, which surpassed the one of baseline model (0.6341) by almost 0.1.

This paper introduces a novel approach to stock movement prediction using multi-label classification, leveraging the interconnections between news articles and related company stocks. We present the Label-Prior Graph Attention (LPGA) model, which significantly enhances the performance of news-driven stock price movement forecasting. This model is comprised of a unique graph attention architecture, incorporating a label encoder and a text encoder, designed to effectively capture and utilize the relationships between labels in a graph-based context. Our model demonstrates superior performance over several benchmark models. The LPGA model’s efficacy is further validated through experiments on two multilabel datasets. The model outperforms established baseline models across various evaluation metrics. The success of the LPGA model in both stock movement prediction and general multi-label classification tasks indicates its potential as a versatile tool in the realm of machine learning and financial analysis. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). The paper aims in presenting distinctive pattern in identification of vehicles using basic and sequential algorithms. Vehicle detection and classification are crucial in traffic control and management decision-making. Vehicle characteristics are critical elements for identifying vehicles. For vehicle detection, the programmer additionally employs thresholds and corner detection techniques. This technique shall be used in order to extract the interest points from an image, while background subtraction method can remove unwanted points. Within a region of object, many corner points will be compacted, which is regarded an initial prerequisite. Thickly surrounded ends are clustered;which provides clue of points related to each vehicle, which is an important part in vehicle identification. The non-vehicle region is separated when the grouping is completed. The corner points are traced using the LK algorithm to ensure that they remain stable. A 93.95% success rate is achieved. © 2022, The Institution of Engineers (India).

In offshore aquaculture operations, personnel equipped with diving gear are often necessary to inspect the underwater net cages for damage, particularly on the sea floor. This manual inspection process is time-consuming and complex. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a computer vision solution for identifying damage in underwater net cages to address the inefficiencies and challenges of traditional manual inspections. The proposed scheme utilizes a high-performance multi-branch computational architecture designed based on ShuffleNet architecture to detect net cage damage more efficiently. Experimental results demonstrate that this work performs well on the ImageNet ILSVRC-2010 dataset and achieves an accuracy of 88.54% in underwater net damage detection.

Industry 4.0 will bring not only transformation to the manufacturing technologies but also to the profile of the workforce. Education system should be revised to prepare the future graduates embracing the knowledge of the ongoing revolution. Initiatives on the modification of curriculum and tools to deliver the concepts of Industry 4.0 must be taken. This paper examines limitations of current engineering tools and proposes a virtual reality (VR)-based learning platform to support the teaching and learning activity for Industry 4.0, focusing on the design of Human–robot Collaboration (HRC). The development process began with the identification of the general Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) which were extracted from the review of the HRC design issues, followed by the evaluation of the current teaching tool. From these results, the new requirements of the tools to achieve ILOs are redefined. The implementation of the system is demonstrated to show the feasibility of the proposed learning platform. This workflow can serve as initial development of another learning platform for the other innovative concepts that form the building blocks of Industry 4.0. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

In agricultural water research, the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has emerged as a pivotal approach for large-scale data collection. Water availability in the context of water quality is very important, both for domestic and industrial purposes. For domestic purposes, drinking water and bathing water are separated. Meanwhile, for the palm oil industry, boiler filler is differentiated from additional process water (dilution water). Water quality parameters can be assessed from turbidity and Total Dissolve Solid (TDS). Measurements using measuring instruments separately and repeatedly require significant energy, time, and costs. This research was conducted with the primary objective of presenting a novel method for categorizing water quality with the approach of IoT sensor technology. The research methodology entailed the utilization of an integrated IoT water sensors system in conjunction with manual water categorization. The methods consist of (1) system design, (2) design and installation of sensor and IoT-based microcontrollers, and (3) accuracy and precision testing compared with laboratory measurements. The precision of the integrated IoT water sensors was assessed through a dedicated sensor precision test, resulting in an accuracy rate of 94.4% for the turbidity sensor and 97.5% for the TDS sensor. Notably, this approach successfully discriminated drinking water with valid categorization, while other water types, including groundwater, water with tea, and water with coffee, yielded null categorization results. © 2023 IEEE.

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology supporting bidirectional power transfer allows electric vehicles (EVs) to contribute and consume energy bidirectionally. Because the specific properties and requirements of V2G, Khan et al. proposed a key agreement scheme for the V2G system to ensure the security of communication between a vehicle user and the grid server. However, after analyzing Khan et al.’s scheme, we find that it suffers from some flaws such that it cannot ensure anonymity, resist impersonation attack, man-in-the-middle attack and denial-of-service attack, and work as expected. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
