Modern retail businesses face a significant challenge with the inefficiency of manually changing price labels on shelves. This manual process not only consumes valuable time and resources but also increases the likelihood of errors, leading to potential inaccuracies in pricing and a less streamlined shopping experience for customers. The proposed solution is the implementation of an Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) system that automatically displays the prices of goods on retail business shelves. This system connects a website (front end and back end) to e-paper via a Wi-Fi network and microcontroller, allowing retail business owners to update prices more easily. Additionally, buyers can search for desired items through the website. The results are the time to send data from the website to the e-paper, namely, to know the performance of the e-paper used. The average time required from 10 attempts to send data from the website to the e-paper is 20.935 seconds. Since the data is connected to the server and will be updated automatically, using this system will be more efficient than manually changing the price label, although it takes time to transfer data from the website to the e-paper. © 2024 IEEE.

Recognition of emotion in speech (RES) is generating significant interest due to its promise to improve human-computer interaction through precise identification of emotions from speech signals. This work investigates how well deep learning methods advance RES accuracy. The study makes it possible to analyze a variety of speech patterns, emotional expressions, and demographic information all of which are crucial for developing trustworthy RES models. According to the study, CNNs demonstrated their ability to capture spatial characteristics from voice spectrogram representations with an amazing accuracy rate of 93%. RNNs performed exceptionally well at modeling temporal dependencies and capturing the sequential nature of speech, with an accuracy rate of 90%. Both models performed well, but some emotions such 'angry' and 'surprise' were more accurately detected than others, including 'disgust' and 'happy,' suggesting room for improvement. © 2024 IEEE.

information security risk is of utmost importance and a crucial concern, particularly within a clinical laboratory responsible for managing sensitive public health information. Various endeavors have been undertaken by institutions to tackle this pressing challenge effectively. This research seeks to develop a computer-based decision model for assessing information security risks. The model is scientifically constructed using the fuzzy logic method as its core approach and designed through an object-oriented approach. Impressively, the model successfully simulates 31 risk scenarios with an accuracy rate of 93.55%. © 2023 IEEE.

IoT edge platform has become popular in various distributed environments. The edge devices need to communicate BigData among them or with the cloud servers by collaborating with AI technologies for finding events from the applications. Those devices exchange data streams from such as distributed sensors and remote image/video devices. We focus on an acceleration technique for the communication performance using a stream-based lossless data compression technology. This paper proposes a parallelization technique for the compression process in a software environment running on a multicore processor. The technique invokes concurrent compression processes assigned to multiple threads with splitting a data stream to chunks. The paper exposes three scheduling methods for assigning the chunks to the threads: in-order, hybrid and out-of-order. As an original data order of chunks must be obtained in decompression side, the proposed technique introduces packeting mechanisms in each chunk by adding headers to support the scheduling methods. Through experimental performance evaluations, we discuss the packeting overhead focusing on compression ratio and speedup by the parallelization with three scheduling methods. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper focuses on a performance enhancement of communication performance by compressing data stream. ASE coding is an effective lossless data compression method for data stream. The software implementation of the coding/decoding method inevitably meets a performance mismatch in memory and storage devices. In the compressor side, it is predictable to decide the size of an original data block and is available to process a flexible buffer memory. However, the decompressor is not able to predict the buffer size because the original data size is not obvious before the decompression. This causes a performance mismatch in the filesystem level. This paper proposes a novel method to address the performance mismatch by applying a notification mechanism of compression size from the compressor. This paper describes the mechanism focusing on the system call usage. Through experimental evaluations, we show the performance improvement of the decompression performance for handling data stream. © 2023 IEEE.

Many Internet protocol (IP) lookup algorithms have been formulated to improve network performance. This study reviewed and experimentally evaluated technologies for trie-based methods that reduce memory access, memory consumption and IP lookup time. Experiments involving binary tries (for simplicity) were conducted on four real-world data sets, two of which were on IPv4 router tables (855,997 and 876,489 active prefixes) and two of which were on IPv6 router tables (155,310 and 157,579 active prefixes). Technologies designed to reduce time taken (at the expense of memory consumption) worked well for IPv4, and those designed to reduce memory consumption worked well for IPv6. Various combinations of these technologies were applied together in the experiments. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

Indonesia has entered a period of demographic bonus. Human resources must be optimized. The number of children who do not in employment, education or training (NEET) in each province needs attention. Several factors that could contribute to the decline in the NEET percentage are literacy rates and the number of adolescents with computer skills. Increasing these two factors is believed to be able to reduce the percentage of NEET in every province in Indonesia. To find out the relationship between these two factors and how much influence they have on the percentage of NEET, this research is modeled by Cauchy regression and includes spatial effects. The results of the analysis show that the best model is when the spatial effect is modeled by Fernandez Steel Skew Normal conditionally autoregressive (FSSN CAR). This result is seen from the smallest value of the Watanabe Akaike information Criterion (WAIC) in this model, which is 190.5. The parameter estimated shows that the higher the literacy rate and the number of adolescents with computer skills, the lower the percentage of NEET in each province in Indonesia. The results of this research can be useful for the Indonesian government to increase the number of educational facilities related to these two factors. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). For microscopic cells images, cells’ morphologies are widely varied among different imaging modalities and staining methods. For fluorescence microscopy images, Poisson noises present in images due to the lightening, causing photobleaching, which makes it challenging in analysis with the deep learning models. Traditionally, median filtering can be applied to the original image for denoising, however, it also results in a blurry image, which is harmful to segmentation. In this study, the Haar Wavelet Transform is used to alleviate the photobleaching problem for cell segmentation, integrated to the framework without interfering with feature extraction by the backbone model. For our experiments, instance segmentation for fluorescence-stained cells was performed based on U-Net architecture with the method of gradient flow tracking proposed by Cellpose. And the Haar wavelet downsampling is embedded in the skip connections to verify if it can improve the segmentation performance for fluorescence images. The experimental results show that the approach of Haar wavelet downsampling embedded in the skip connections achieve superior performance among the other settings. Compared with the performance of the baseline model, the performance of the proposed model reached 0.732 in F1-score, which surpassed the one of baseline model (0.6341) by almost 0.1. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

Real-world practical systems inherently exhibit non-linearities in their dynamics. Also, it is known that a time-varying delay exists in the system state or input-output. Combined, it affects the stability of the closed-loop system. It also increases the complexity of the controller design. In-depth controller design research on the class of Nonlinear Systems with Time-Varying Delay (NSTVD) has been the focus of the control community for many years. However, there is a lack of Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and classifications of the papers on this topic. This paper aims to review controller design utilizing a neural network model for the class of NSTVD systems. The study employs Kitchenham's SLR method to gather, analyze and synthesize published papers from reliable databases between 2017 and 2021. The bibliometric analysis for the selected 38 papers reveals the prolific authors, countries, affiliations, publishers, co-authorship network, co-occurrences of keywords, and ten most-cited papers. Finally, this paper developed a conceptual map outlining six multi-layered findings: the addressed problem, control design method, nonlinear system properties, time-varying delay properties, system constraint properties, and actuator limit properties. A brief qualitative analysis of the ten most-cited papers is performed based on the map. The findings highlighted that the proposed methods have shown encouraging results in the simulation domain and can be used as a source of inspiration for future studies and implementation of the neural controller design of the NSTVD system. © 2023 IEEE.

Yakshagana, a traditional theater form from Karnataka, India, features a unique combination of vibrant costumes, dynamic dance movements, and elaborate facial makeup, making character and actor identification a challenging task for automated systems. This research work presents a novel approach to classify Yakshagana characters into two primary categories, Vaishnava and Shaiva, and to identify the actors performing these characters using advanced machine learning techniques. Our research employs a Cyclic Gated Recurrent Neural Network (Cyclic GRNN) for classification and identification tasks. For character category classification, we integrate YOLOv3 and Faster R-CNN models, achieving an accuracy of 92.85% with YOLOv3 and 88.285% with Faster R-CNN. The categorization is specifically focused on distinguishing between Vaishnava and Shaiva characters. Additionally, for actor name identification, we utilize a RESNET-50 model, attaining a high accuracy of 95.60%. The results demonstrate the efficacy of Cyclic GRNN combined with state-of-the-art object detection and image classification models in accurately recognizing and categorizing Yakshagana characters and actors. This research contributes to the preservation and digital documentation of Yakshagana by providing robust tools for automated identification, thereby facilitating cultural heritage studies and enhancing audience engagement with this traditional art form. © 2024 IEEE.
