In this study, we presented the defect identification analysis based on the level-set type topology optimization using hammering testing data. To simulate the oscillation behavior of concrete structure, the equation of motion in three dimensions is introduced as the governing equation. The performance function is defied by the time integral of the squared residual between the computed and observed displacements. The problem is to find the defect topologies so as to minimize the performance function. In the model with a small number of observation points, it was found that nonexistent defects disappeared by using the weighted sensitivity method. In addition, it was confirmed that the model with a large number of observation points did not show the same tendency as the model with a small number of observation points because the accuracy of defect identification increased as the number of observation points increased. © 2023

Rapid development in vehicular technology has caused more automated vehicle control to increase on the roads. Studies showed that driving in mixed traffic with an autonomous vehicle (AV) had a negative impact on the time headway (THW) of conventional vehicles (CVs) (i.e., driven by humans). To address this issue, there is a need to equip CV with visual advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) that helps the driver maintain safe headway when driving near AVs. This study examines the perception of drivers using visual ADAS and their associated risk while driving behind the AV at constant and varying speeds. The preliminary results showed that while visual ADAS could help drivers keep the safe THW, it could affect drivers’ ability to react to emergencies. This implies that visual modality alone might not be sufficient and therefore requires some other feedback or intelligent transport systems to help drivers maintain safe driving in a mixed-traffic condition.

Dielectrophoresis-based biochips with various microelectrode configurations have been extensively studied within the last five deca des. However, wide-field application is still challenging. This study aims to fabricate an oblique-configuration microelectrode and then utilizes it to determine the dielectrophoretic (DEP) characteristics of Lactobacillus casei based on the generated non-uniform electric field. The electric field distribution on microelectrodes was simulated with Quickfield 6.6 student version. The microelectrodes were fabricated using a copper film on a glass substrate. The DEP characteristic of Lactobacillus casei was investigated by applying a sinusoidal AC signal to microelectrodes in medium solution with an electrical conductivity of 0.05 S/m. The electric-field simulations show that the strongest electric-field was generated on the tip of electrodes spacing, and the weakest electric-field was generated on the inner of electrodes spacing. The negative-DEP force on Lactobacillus casei was observed at the frequency of 60-130 kHz, while the positive-DEP force was observed at the frequency of 380-700 kHz, both at voltage of 2-6 Vpp. The nDEP force led Lactobacillus casei to be pushed toward the weak electric field on the inner of electrodes spacing, and the pDEP force induced Lactobacillus casei to be attracted toward the strong electric-field on the tip of electrodes spacing. This study implies that the proposed oblique-microelectrode platform has promising application for bioparticles separation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Because imitation learning relies on human demonstrations in hard-to-simulate settings, the inclusion of force control in this method has resulted in a shortage of training data, even with a simple change in speed. Although the field of data augmentation has addressed the lack of data, conventional methods of data augmentation for robot manipulation are limited to simulation-based methods or downsampling for position control. This paper proposes a novel method of data augmentation that is applicable to force control and preserves the advantages of real-world datasets. We applied teaching-playback at variable speeds as real-world data augmentation to increase both the quantity and quality of environmental reactions at variable speeds. An experiment was conducted on bilateral control-based imitation learning using a method of imitation learning equipped with position-force control. We evaluated the effect of real-world data augmentation on two tasks, pick-and-place and wiping, at variable speeds, each from two human demonstrations at fixed speed. The results showed a maximum 55% increase in success rate from a simple change in speed of real-world reactions and improved accuracy along the duration/frequency command by gathering environmental reactions at variable speeds. Gamification is the process of incorporating game design aspects into non-gaming products or services to enhance usage and provide more long-term effects. The implementation of gamification in diverse practical focus areas necessitates the application and adaptation of the gamification theoretical idea to technological breakthroughs and their application. The goal of this study is to examine the determinants of gamification in the marketplace using gamified learning theory. This research takes a quantitative approach, utilizing SEM-PLS modeling and the SmartPLS 4.0 analytic tool. Participants from Generation Z were employed for this study. This group is recognized for its tendency to become readily bored and to move around while utilizing a product. According to the findings of this study, varying the intensity of recommendations to other people can demonstrate that the output does not only stop at the outcomes of playing, such as the acquisition of coins or other rewards, but also extends to the act of recommending to others. This is consistent with the game's features, which include the ability to invite friends to help finish objectives. This study has theoretical significance for enhancing differentiated learning theory. In practice, the findings of this study highlight the importance of consistently designing instructional features and content to keep students' attention. The research's flaws stem from the usage of limited game elements and the participants' background profile, which was ignored in favor of ignoring their game experience.

Every year, at least 1,300 million tons of agricultural waste is produced, and the amount is likely to expand further in a world with a growing population to feed. Our current linear approach to handling this vast amount of waste via landfills and incineration has already contributed to about 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions and also created various toxic pollutants. There is an urgent need to sustainably manage agricultural waste that can benefit both the environment and humans. Thermochemical conversion emerges as a promising technology that can convert agricultural waste into a variety of valuable products, creating circularity opportunities. In this primer, we explain the thermochemical conversion of agricultural waste by illustrating four mainstreaming processes. We further discuss the potential tradeoffs of these processes in terms of their environmental externalities and reflect upon the potential toward a circular and net-zero future.

Photocatalytic degradation is a promising way to treat emerging pollutants in wastewater. Recently, metal-free photocatalysts such as carbon nitride- and graphene-based materials have attracted much interest in the photocatalytic degradation of emerging water pollutants owing to their visible light activity and unique electrical properties, respectively. Graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) is considered a superior visible light–active photocatalyst because of its suitable bandgap (2.7 eV). Moreover, the facile synthesis process and the high chemical and thermal stability of GCN make it one of the research hotspots in photocatalytic wastewater treatment. Besides GCN, graphene and its derivatives are utilized to support main photocatalysts by enhancing their light absorption, pollutant adsorption, and photogenerated charge separation. Furthermore, the vast modification of these materials has promoted various outstanding performances in carbon nitride- and graphene-based photocatalysts in the application of pollutant degradation. In this review, we highlight recent developments in carbon nitride- and graphene-based photocatalysts (2018–2023), focusing on the strategies to improve the activity of GCN as a visible light–active photocatalyst and the role of graphene and its derivatives as supporting materials in wastewater pollutant remediation applications.

An optimal waste collection is a very complicated task in different countries. However, this task is more intricate, when there is not an organized procedure between people, government and technology. In this research it was studied and proposed strategies, to optimize the waste collection by technical suggestions, that were based on mathematical analysis and new technologies applications of sensors based on nanostructures due to this kind of sensors have good performance to measure physical variables in not simple places and conditions, such as around waste. Hence the reason, this work is prepared to contribute in the development of sensors based on nanostructures according to detect the physical variables: temperature, humidity, infrared reflection, moreover carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) gases, which help to monitor the consequences of a not correct waste *** dependence on central and local government rules of waste management, it could be possible to find solution about organized waste collection, in which every family and walkers in streets would have the task to select the organic and inorganic garbage before the government trucks take the contents of the garbage trash cans to the landfill garbage dumps. However, many times the trash cans are not taken on time by the government trucks and garbage from them are producing gases and decomposition that causes contamination that damages health. Therefore, in this work there are proposed designed intelligent sensors, which are fixed in the trash cans due to measure physical parameters to give alarm for administrators controllers of boxes and to enhance the garbage selections from homes and streets to the main garbage landfills of the city. In other side, there will not be right solution in the waste collection, no matter the high advantage technologies, while humans could not be sensitive under this problematic. Aside from providing considerable benefits to individuals, AI can also generate anxiety, especially given its sophistication and the level of intimidation that exists in everyday life. The aim of the paper is to assess the usage behavior of AI, using anxiety-related AI configuration as an exogenous variable and gender as a moderating factor. This study was conducted using a quantitative method with empirical approach, utilizing data from 81 participating Indonesian academics. We used SmartPLS 4.0 and SEM-PLS to conduct this research. The study's findings effectively show that anxiety-related AI configurations significantly influence AI usage behavior in negative interactions (P value $=\mathbf{0. 024}$ ; original sample $=-0.51$ ). This study also explained that as worry levels increase, women's efficiency decreases, resulting in a lower aptitude for AI use when compared to men. As their anxiety levels increase, more women consider using artificial intelligence. This study benefits both scholars and the industry by deepening our understanding of behavioral attitudes towards AI use, with a particular focus on gender-based AI users.

This document it is established that 2 types of biogas anaerobic digester that usually found in developing country. First type is fixed dome type of anaerobic digester and secondly is floating drum biogas anaerobic digester. Both of this type have draw back that the anaerobic process is not completed with agitation process that yield low rate of biogas production. Other serious problem is the release of slurry cannot optimal. Some of the slurry will still remain stay in the anaerobic digester especially scum. To drain and cleaning the fixed dome or floating drum biogas anaerobic digester is mandatory to be done regularly that consume time and cost. The fixed dome types as well as floating drum type are usually not portable which cause no possibility to relocate in the new site. It is the purpose of this work to introduce portable biogas anaerobic digester that suitable for developing country with volume of digester around 500 liter of slurry. The requirement of agitator is facilitated, and the anaerobic digester is possible to be operated in batch system or continuous system. The material that is used for anaerobic digester is stainless steel 304 with tungsten inert gas welding technology that is used for the manufacturing. With this design the anaerobic digester are easy to be maintenance. The batch system can keep producing biogas until 52 day with total production of biogas around 3320 liters. The continuous system was conducted by releasing for about 5 liters slurry from the outlet and after that filled with new slurry with stirring with agitator was conducted for about 10 minutes for 3 times in a day (morning, noon, and evening). The result for continuous system is a linear biogas production with rate biogas production is around 51.7 liter/day (1550 liter/30days). © 2021 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.
