Currently, waste generation in Indonesia is increasing;the amount of waste generated in a year is around 67.8 million tons. Increasing the amount of waste generation can cause other problems, namely water from the decay of waste called leachate. Leachate can contaminate surface water, groundwater, or soil if it is streamed directly into the environment without treatment. Between physical and chemical, biological methods, and leachate transfer, the most effective treatment is the biological method. The purpose of this article is to understand the biological method for leachate treatment in landfills. It can be concluded that each method has different treatment results because it depends on the leachate characteristics and the treatment method. These biological methods used to treat leachate, even with various leachate characteristics, also can be combined to produce effluent from leachate treatment below the established standards. © The Authors, published by EDP sciences, 2020.

Indonesia is the second largest contributor of plastic waste in the ocean. The initiative of the central government through KLHK in reducing the generation of plastic waste is to launch a paid plastic bag policy. This policy is regulated by a circular issued by KLHK to local governments and business actors. The purpose of this study is to analyse the implementation of policies, analyse consumer behaviour and analyse the supporting and inhibiting factors in the paid plastic bag policy which is applied in the city of Semarang. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. Data collection uses primary and secondary data. The results showed that the paid plastic bag policy had the support of the local government, businesses and consumers. Various efforts have been made as a form of support to reduce waste generation in accordance with the objectives of this policy. Although consumers know and support this policy, it does not change consumer behaviour much. They still use plastic bags from retail when they finish shopping. Consumers have no objections to paying IDR 200. This policy does not bring many significant changes in consumer behaviour in using new plastic bags, despite the tendency of consumers to know the impact of plastic bag waste if it is not managed properly. Consumers still seem indifferent in considering plastic bag waste as an urgent waste priority. So that this policy is still less effective in changing consumer behaviour. © The Authors, published by EDP sciences, 2020.

Two-dimensional simulation of Wood's Metal Plate (WMP) Melting Process has been conducted by varying the molten temperature. This simulation was performed by using Moving Particle Semi-Implicit (MPS) method which can calculate the Navier-Stokes and heat transfer equation without divining mesh system. As a substitute, particles are selected to represent every part of simulation such as fluid, wall and dummy type. The experiment of WMP melting process has been conducted by Sudha (2018). The molten Wood's Metal was originally set at 573 K. In this simulation, the holes formation in WMP will be investigated as a consequence of molten temperature variation. Furthermore, temperature distribution at top side of WMP and solid-liquid phase change will be analyzed for initial temperature of molten are 523 K, 473 K and 423 K. The results show that the phases change significantly in a short time when the molten temperature is increased. However, until the end of simulation which on 1.5 s just for molten temperature 573 K shows the breaching process to the WMP. This study can be implemented when the reactor nuclear severe accident happened. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Sustainable closed fuel cycle and inherent safety are one of the key aspects of Generation IV reactor design. Hence Molten salt reactor (MSR) is chosen as one of the candidates of Generation IV reactor concepts. FUJI-U2 or MSR-2R is a 2-region core MSR design that was proposed as a possible simplification of FUJI-U3 (3-region core). Taking into consideration that uranium-233 doesn't exist naturally, FUJI-U2 utilize both plutonium and uranium-233 as a fissile material. To understand the characteristics further, a comparative study of 2-region core MSR with Th-U233 and Th-Pu as fuel has been carried out. nuclear analysis code SRAC2006 with the nuclear data library of JENDL4.0 was used, and CITATION was employed to validate the core. The design parameters set for each region are fuel composition, core radius, and fuel fraction. The simulation burn up calculation is set to 2000 days in total, with 21 step each for 100 days cycle. Neutron multiplication factor, fuel elemental, burn up calculation, conversion ratio, and neutron flux in each core will be discussed. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Tuna fishing in Indonesia is excessive and if left unchecked, some types of tuna will become extinct within 3-10 years. There is an urgent need to help MMAF for producing more accurate fish catches data. This paper proposed a system that utilizes computer vision, fuzzy logic and Global Positioning System (GPS) for supporting a sustainableIndonesian fishery by recognizing and measuring fish length, determine fish age and where is the catch location. It is necessary to study technical factors such as bait used, oceanographic conditions of fishing areas and skipjack tuna trade patterns (Katsuwonus pelamis) as well as other factors in Sulawesi Fisheries. Supporting data to study these technical factors need to be obtained so that it can be improved throughout the year as a skipjack fishing standard with weights taken by the skipjack weights. Therefore, drones and underwater drones with cameras with high-resolution video and images to be fed and processed by computer vision. These drones are operated via Huhate ships which are then used to test efficient technical factors as expected, can be used in determining the size, shape, and colour as well as the analysis of skipjack fish that are in the Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs or Rumpon) in order to manage the management of fisheries managed in Indonesia. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The cement industry in Indonesia, heavily relies on coal, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Simultaneously, Java Island generates over 23 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) annually, with limited utilization for energy recovery. This study evaluates the feasibility of substituting coal with refuse-derived fuel (RDF) from MSW in Java's cement industry, focusing on environmental, economic, and technical aspects. Scenario analyses indicate that substituting 10%, 20%, and 30% of thermal energy with RDF could divert up to 8.7 million tons of MSW from landfills annually, reducing GHG emissions by up to 2.77 million Gg CO₂-eq. These reductions align with Indonesia's environmental policies and global climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. The economic assessment demonstrates the viability of RDF, with potential annual cost savings of up to $421 million. Beyond addressing coal dependency, RDF adoption supports circular economy practices, reduces landfill reliance, and mitigates environmental pollution. However, challenges such as infrastructure gaps and regulatory barriers require attention. This study provides actionable insights to guide policy formulation, foster industry investment, and facilitate the implementation of RDF-based energy solutions. By bridging waste management and sustainable energy practices, the findings contribute to Indonesia's renewable energy goals, emphasizing the practical applications of RDF for a more sustainable future in industrial operations. © 2025 The Authors

The development of microreactor technology presents an efficient solution for providing portable electricity, catering to both human space exploration needs within our solar system and supplying power to remote Earth-bound areas. The miniaturization of nuclear reactors poses immediate new challenges for materials science with respect to the capability for controlling nuclear reactions via thermalization of highly-energetic neutrons. In a microreactor, neutron moderation takes place in compact geometries, therefore new moderator materials are required to exhibit high moderating power per unit of volume. This challenge is currently being addressed through the advancement of hydrogen technology and materials science, particularly focusing on development of transition metal hydrides, but to date, research on their irradiation response, specifically regarding phase stability, hydrogen in-lattice retention, and their dependence on irradiation temperature and dose, is limited. Herein, we present a detailed investigation on the response of yttrium dihydride (\ce{YH2}) - the most suitable moderator candidate with respect to its high operational temperature - to heavy ion irradiation. A combination of multiple experimental techniques indicate that \ce{YH2} is stable up to an irradiation dose of 2 dpa and below 800$^{\circ}$C, identified as a critical temperature for \ce{YH2}. Our study unravels that voids emerge as the major form of radiation damage. Below the critical temperature no phase change, precipitation or amorphization was observed to occur. Experimental results from ion beam and neutron scattering techniques with concomitant density functional theory calculations have allowed us to elaborate and propose new strategies to enhance the metal hydride performance in extreme environments. © 2023, The Authors. This study introduces the Quantum-Train Quantum Fast Weight programmer (QT-QFWP) framework, enabling efficient and scalable programming of variational quantum circuits (VQCs) through quantum-driven parameter updates for the classical slow programmer controlling the fast programmer VQC. By optimizing quantum and classical parameter management, QT-QFWP significantly reduces parameters (by 70–90%) compared to Quantum Long Short-Term Memory (QLSTM) and Quantum Fast Weight programmer (QFWP) while maintaining accuracy. Benchmarking on time-series tasks—including Damped Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM), NARMA5, and Simulated Gravitational Waves (GW)—demonstrates superior efficiency and predictive accuracy. QT-QFWP is particularly advantageous for near-term quantum systems, addressing qubit and gate fidelity constraints, enhancing VQC deployment in time-sensitive applications, and expanding quantum computing’s role in machine learning.

Lymphomas, a diverse group of blood cancers originating from the lymphatic system, present significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment due to their morphological and genetic differences. These variability obscures the development of personalized therapies and impacts disease outcomes. The scarcity of high-quality, diverse images of lymphoma cells is further hindered by patient privacy concerns, the rarity of certain types, and logistical challenges of collecting and processing biomedical images. Additionally, the costs and technical difficulties of microscopic imaging limit the scope of research. This paper addresses these challenges by utilizing generative adversarial networks (GANs) to generate synthetic yet realistic images of lymphoma histopathology and classify them in a low resource setting. Focusing specifically on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), follicular lymphoma (FL), and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), we employed GANs to enhance the understanding of lymphoma variability and support advancements in digital cancer biology and pathology. This dual approach of image generation and classification aims to improve disease diagnosis and prognosis, ultimately contributing to better patient outcomes. © 2024, The Authors.
