Although silicon carbide is a very good semiconductor material for the fabrication of diode detectors for use as neutron power monitors in nuclear reactors, the electrical properties of the diodes may be altered because of interactions between energetic neutrons and SIC atoms. If the energy that is transferred from a neutron to an atom in a collision exceeds some threshold value, the atom will be moved from its original position, creating displacement damage. Accurately modeling displacement damage is a first step to finding ways to eliminate or decrease the amount of damage the displacements induce. The methodology that we have used to estimate the number of displacements per atom per fluence, using two codes (MCNP and TRIM) is presented in this paper, along with examples of the results of our calculations. AbstractThis narrative review explores radiomics in the broader context of liver disease research, an interdisciplinary field bridging medical imaging, oncology, and data science. It begins with an introduction to data analysis techniques, from foundational methods like descriptive statistics, comparative and regression analysis, and survival analysis, to advanced approaches like machine learning (ML), meta-analysis, and bioinformatics. Contextualizing these methodologies within liver disease research enhances our understanding of liver diseases. The focus is on radiomics, an emerging field, which is first placed in historical context before its applications are explained across fatty liver diseases (FLD), fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver cancers. The role of radiomics in early detection, disease staging, and outcome prediction, particularly as a non-invasive alternative to liver biopsy, is analyzed in-depth. Current imaging modalities for liver cancer diagnosis are also examined, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Alongside radiomics, these imaging tools enable comprehensive liver assessment. Lastly, the integration of radiomics with other data types, especially genomic data, is explored, emphasizing its role in a holistic approach to liver disease management. The review concludes with a forward-looking perspective on future directions and advancements in radiomics and liver cancer research, addressing the challenges and opportunities in the field. It underscores the transformative impact of these developments on liver cancer research, patient care, personalized medicine, and clinical decision-making.

In this paper, the design of the control board and human-machine interface for imitation and 3D operation is implemented with the DOBOT arm mechanism. The coordinate array data of glyphs written on the tablet is captured by the CCD camera. The glyph learning and imitation are implemented by the center point and radius estimation algorithms. In addition, the 3D position and operation procedure planned on the computer window interface will also be converted into a tracking coordinate array and procedure control code. They will be transmitted to the ARM chip on the control board via WIFI or USB, for parallel-quadrilateral link calculation and coordinate conversion of the track, to get the motor control command of the robot arm. The automated monitoring system proposed in this paper is the result of completely self-design and development on software, firmware and hardware. Rotational control accuracy of 0.01125 deg/pulse and writing error of less than 0.5 mm can be achieved. © 2019 IEEE.

The delayed neutron nuclear data are limited by its short lifetime, limited yield fraction, difficulty to obtain a well-defined sample, an inefficient (uncharacterized) experimental system, and numerical instabilities of fitting methods. The uncertainties on the relative abundances of the longer-lived delayed neutron groups are up to 13% for thermal fissions of 235U and 16% for fast fissions of 238U. To evaluate more accurate delayed neutron nu- clear data, a novel approach to experimentally measure the relative uncertainties on the delayed neutron group abundances has been proposed by Jordan and Perret. This ap- proach combines delayed gamma and delayed neutron fission rate measurement tech- niques;with two independent estimates of the same fission rate, higher uncertainty de- layed neutron parameters can be linked to lower uncertainty delayed gamma parameters. The present authors have designed, optimized, and built an experimental apparatus capa- ble of producing high accuracy measurements for delayed gamma-rays and neutrons, with the goal of implementing the above approach. Finally, sensitivity studies of the pa- rameters that have non-negligible contributions to the overall uncertainty were carried out. With regards to the designed setup and the combined technique, the relative uncertainty of the longest-lived delayed neutron group is calculated. The calculation shows that the uncertainty of the longest-lived delayed neutron group of 238U can be reduced by a factor of two to 8.81%. © 2014 Westinghouse Electric Company LLC. Diverse organisms exploit the geomagnetic field (GMF) for migration. Migrating birds employ an intrinsically quantum mechanical mechanism for detecting the geomagnetic field: absorption of a blue photon generates a radical pair whose two electrons precess at different rates in the magnetic field, thereby sensitizing cells to the direction of the GMF. In this work, using an in vitro injury model, we discovered a quantum-based mechanism of cellular migration. Specifically, we show that migrating cells detect the GMF via an optically activated, electron spin-based mechanism. Cell injury provokes acute emission of blue photons, and these photons sensitize muscle progenitor cells to the magnetic field. We show that the magnetosensitivity of muscle progenitor cells is (a) activated by blue light, but not by green or red light, and (b) disrupted by the application of an oscillatory field at the frequency corresponding to the energy of the electron-spin/magnetic field interaction. A comprehensive analysis of protein expression reveals that the ability of blue photons to promote cell motility is mediated by activation of calmodulin calcium sensors. Collectively, these data suggest that cells possess a light-dependent magnetic compass driven by electron spin dynamics. © 2025, CC BY.

Onset detection is a fundamental task in music information retrieval (MIR). Classical approaches using onset detection functions (ODFs) and hand-crafted peak-picking methods are outperformed by those utilizing neural networks, which are considered state-of-the-art. However, these methods bring much more computational costs and thus can be unfavored when implementing onset detections on low-performance devices. Previous work utilizing both an ODF and a recurrent neural network (RNN) provides another option as a trade-off between accuracy and processing speed. However, it only used one single ODF for the input of the network. In the present study, we propose a novel method utilizing multiple ODFs and an RNN fusing these ODFs, together with several techniques in training the network and peak-picking. Our proposed method outperformed previous work by approximately 1% at the cost of a halved processing speed, serving as another option for trading-off between accuracy and speed. One of our future works is looking for other ODFs that can be both fast-calculating and beneficial to accuracy. © 2022 ACM.

This paper presents the results of tests done on concrete beams reinforced with glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) longitudinal bars and GFRP stirrups. The main test variables were the size, the amount, and the arrangement of longitudinal reinforcement as well as the size and spacing of closed loop stirrups. Six beams are divided into two series defined by stirrup spacing, or three pairs defined by longitudinal bar arrangement. The results indicate that the specimens with no stirrups failed in shear-tension while the beams with stirrups failed in shear-compression showing deep beam behaviour. The results were compared to predictions from several methods, namely a novel Indeterminate Strut-and-Tie (1ST) method formulated specifically for use with brittle reinforcements, as well as the shear models of the ACI 440.1R-06 guidelines, the CSA S806-12 standard, and theNehdi et al. (2007) method. The 1ST method produced the best predictions followed by the method of Nehdi et al. This study presents an investigation of chemical and physical characterization, green process analysis, techno-economic considerations, and carbon emissions for synthesizing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from plastic and can waste using microwave-assisted synthesis. The microwave-assisted synthesis proves to be more cost-effective, with a reduction in CO₂ emissions by up to 80%. The synthesized material (MIL-Mw-U) demonstrates excellent performance in methylene blue (MB) removal, achieving 98.41% removal, with 97.87% removal although the catalyst is used in the third cycle. The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) onto MIL-Mw-U achieved a maximum capacity of 295.26 mgg⁻¹ at pH 3 and decreased to 258.68 mgg⁻¹ at pH 11 due to OH⁻ competition. The Langmuir isotherm (R² = 0.9381) and pseudo-second-order kinetics (R² = 0.999) confirmed monolayer chemisorption as the dominant mechanism. This innovative approach supports circular economy principles by converting can and plastic bottle waste into functional material for dye removal, offering sustainable solutions for environmental challenges. © 2025 The Authors

Defining suitable enzymes for reaction steps in novel synthetic pathways is crucial for developing microbial cell factories for non-natural ***,we developed a computational workflow to identify C12 alcohol-active *** workflow involved three steps:(1)assembling initial candidates of putative UDP-glycosyltransferases,(2)refining selection by examining conserved regions,and(3)3D structure prediction and molecular *** sequences from Candida,Pichia,Rhizopus,and Thermotoga,known for lauryl glucoside synthesis via whole-cell biocatalysis,were *** of 240 predicted glycosyltransferases,8 candidates annotated as glycosyltransferases were selected after filtering out those with signal peptides and identifying conserved UDP-glycosyltransferase *** proteins underwent 3D structure prediction and molecular docking with ***3G,a candidate from Rhizopus delemar RA 99-880 with a relatively high ChemPLP fitness score,was selected and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3).It was further characterized using a feeding experiment with *** confirmed that the RO3G-expressing strain could convert 1-dodecanol to lauryl glucoside,as quantified by HPLC and identified by targeted *** the growth and fermentation profiles of the engineered strain revealed that RO3G expression did not affect cell ***,acetate,a major fermentation product,was reduced in the RO3G-expressing strain compared to the GFP-expressing strain,suggesting a redirection of flux from acetate to other ***,this work presents a successful workflow for discovering UDP-glycosyltransferase enzymes with confirmed activity toward 1-dodecanol for lauryl glucoside production.
