A good characterization of a reservoir is required to understand its properties. One of the methods known is Rock Physics Template (RPT). This method attempts to characterize a reservoir in order to predict the behavior of the reservoir under different porosities and water saturation. However, most of RPT technique applications are limited to granular rocks and not for carbonates. Although carbonates generally suitable as reservoir rocks, it is proven to be more challenging. The complex system of carbonates porosities often gives scatter pattern on the correlation between porosity and P-wave. Therefore, this research attempt to use RPT to model carbonate reservoir. We use Kuster Toksoz as the basis for carbonate rock modeling with the help of the Biot-Gassmann equation. The target of this paper is the Baturaja formation that is located in South Sumatra Basin. This formation is known to be a carbonate reservoir that has produced gas hydrocarbon. This study offers an approach on how to better understand the application of RPT on carbonate formation. Based on the RPT modeling done in this research, specific parameters need to be obtained in order to develop a functional RPT model. These parameters are the aspect ratio of the porosities and the elastic modulus of the minerals. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

The reservoir has a significant role as a place of hydrocarbon accumulation in a petroleum system. Therefore, during exploration, a good understanding of the reservoir characterization becomes important to recognize the hydrocarbon migration path. There are several types of reservoirs which are commonly found;one of them renowned as carbonate reservoir. This type of reservoir is hard to be understood due to the heterogeneity of its pore type as a result of intense cementation and diagenesis. Information of pore type can be obtained based on core analysis or rock physics analysis. There are some rock physics approaches commonly used such as Kuster-Toksöz, Self Consistent Approximation (SCA), and Differential Effective Moduli (DEM). On the other hand, there are also other approaches but less famous. Parameters such as spherical porosity(S ), pore shape parameters -pore shape factor (S) and relative pore shape factor(ΔS) - are sensitive to identify pore type which may be developed in a carbonate reservoir. A positive value of S and ΔS is the characteristic of carbonate rocks with the domination of stiff pore (high aspect ratio). These characteristics also can be informed by a value of S > 1. On the opposite, a negative value of S and ΔS is the characteristics of carbonate rocks dominated by soft pore (low aspect ratio) that also can be informed by a value of S © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Seismic interferometry was applied to estimate the shear wave velocity structure beneath the Bandung Basin, West Java. The empirical Green's function (EGFs) were obtained by cross-correlate each pairs of seismic stations from the temporary seismic network installed in the research area. In this research, we use Rayleigh wave dispersion data as the input for surface wave tomography. The obtained dispersion curves of Rayleigh waves are in the period range 1 - 12 s. The dispersion characteristics of EGFs was also analyzed to estimate the distribution of the ambient noise sources. Based on the symmetricity characteristics of the dispersive signals of EGFs from all two station pairs oriented relatively in N-S and W-E the seismic noise sources was originated from oceanic activity at the Coastline of Java Sea. Furthermore, the dispersion curves also show that the group velocities vary within range of 1.6-2 km/s. The inverted dispersion data into depth models provide the variation of shear velocity structures at depth 1-5 km in the range of 1-2.1 km/s. At depth 1-4 km, there appear high and low velocity contrast in the south of Mt. Tangkuban Perahu, which is may be related to the existence of Lembang Fault. Meanwhile, velocity models at depth 1-3 km show the lateral variation of shear wave's velocity in the Bandung Basin. The high velocity structures within range 1.8-2.1 km/s lies in the Southwest toward Northeast in the middle of Bandung Basin. This structures divide Bandung Basin into two parts, Western part and Eastern part. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Multi-channel analysis of surface wave (MASW) is a suitable technique to infer shallow structure of vertical shear-wave velocity profile from seismic record data. The processing stage is focused on obtaining the reliable dispersion curves, and the final stage of the method is that to obtain the shear velocity model that can explain the observation. The genetic algorithm (GA) method, one of the global optimization approaches, has been implemented to obtain shear wave model from Rayleigh wave dispersion curve. The GA method mimic biological evolution in order to obtain the optimum solution. Application of GA method to two synthetic models for normal velocity profile and low velocity anomaly give good results indicated with small misfit. Finally, we demonstrate the GA to Rayleigh dispersion curve for real data which calculated by using phase-shift method. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Sumatra Island is a highly seismic active region due to its close location to the convergent zone between the Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates, and the existence of the Great Sumatran Fault (GSF). These conditions caused the island of Sumatra suffered from hundreds of earthquakes with Mw > 4 per year. Particularly, a 9.0 Mw Sumatra-Andaman 2004 earthquake occured in northern Sumatra which changed the in-situ stress and seismicity pattern. In such case, quantifying the tectonic stress perturbation prior and after 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake is becoming key issue in assessing the seismic hazard. To invert the in-situ stress information in Sumatra, first we identify the fault plane from its auxiliary plane in the focal mechanism solutions using the fault instability criterion. On 26 May 2006 at 22:53:59 UTC, an earthquake with moment magnitude of 6.4 occurred in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The source of the event is still debatable. Some believe the event was caused by the reactivation of the Opak Fault which has a left-lateral type movement. Previous studies indicated there are two possibilities to explain the mechanism of the Yogyakarta earthquake. First is based on the focal mechanism from NIED (National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster) Japan which indicated that the event occurred in an oblique reverse slip. This model states that the complex Opak fault is a flower structure (strike-slip) type. Second is based on NEIC (National Earthquake Information Center) US which indicated that the event was caused by a pure strike-slip fault (active Opak fault). The May 26th earthquake triggered many aftershock events around the old Opak fault. The majority of aftershock events on 3-6 June 2006 were located around 5 km east of Opak fault. It has a trendline of N45°E and lies parallel with the Opak fault. We use Coulomb Stress change to determine which type of source model fit better the aftershocks pattern. The target fault for Coulomb Stress analysis is a left lateral pure strike slip with an orientation of N45°E/90°SE. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

The Sumatran fault zone has a high seismicity and seismic hazard threat levels due to this fracture through densely populated areas. The fault zone of Sumatera has 19 main segments which each segment has the possibility to generate a strong earthquake. Therefore, in this study we attempt to improve the accuracy of hypocenter locations which is needed as basic analysis in advance seismology and in seismic hazard analysis. The final objective of this study is to analyze the subsurface seismic velocity structure of the Sumatran fault by applying seismic tomography method. For the preliminary result, we have been conducting double-difference method to relocate 967 events recorded by 49 stations compiled by Meteorological, Climatological, and geophysical Agency of Indonesia (MCGA) from 2009 to 2017 along Sumatran fault. Our preliminary results from the relocation proces indicate prominent features of event cluster around Sumatra fault system. The next step, we will improve the onset of P-and S-wave arrival time by using waveform cross-correlation in order to get more reliable hypocenter location. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Seismic methods widely used to study the shallow subsurface for different purposes. Analysis of P-wave refraction cannot uniquely determine the seismic velocities as a function of depth when a low velocity layer is present. It is situation commonly encountered in geotechnical site investigation. Utilization of Rayleigh wave dispersion can be uses to determine the structure with existence of low velocity zone. In this study, we discuss efficiency and effectiveness of a joint inversion of Rayleigh wave dispersion curve which combining the genetic algorithm and the Occam's algorithm to delineate a low velocity zone. Numerical test is presented. The shear wave velocity and thickness errors which is the difference between the true and inverted model parameters is used to appraise the value accuracy inversion model. The result provides accurate solution models with is 2.3 % and is 13.4%. Finally, we demonstrates the joint inversion scheme to invert Rayleigh wave dispersion curve which calculated by phase-shift method from a real example data. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A destructive earthquake with magnitude Mw 6.5 occurred in Ambon, Indonesia, on 26 September 2019. This earthquake generated an aftershock sequence. In this study, we determined the location of the aftershock sequence using a non-linear algorithm from the Non-Linear Location (NonLinLoc) program. The catalog and waveform data were collected using 11 seismographs from BMKG regional network located around the Maluku archipelago. The data was recorded between 26 September and 18 October 2019. We have manually picked the P-and-S wave phase by using Seisgram2K software. In our preliminary result, we have located about 1,300 events of aftershock sequence with about 8,500 phases of P and S waves. Overall, the location of the focus depth of the aftershock sequence is dominantly distributed in between 5 - 25 km. Approximately ∼70% of the distribution of aftershock locations show a North-South (N-S) oriented pattern from west Seram to Ambon Islands. Meanwhile, about ∼20% of the aftershock's locations are distributed around Ambon Island. Our ongoing and future study is to determine accurate hypocentre location derived from double-difference hypocenter relocation with waveform cross-correlation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

West Java, Indonesia, is located in the northern part of the subduction zone between the Australian and Eurasian plates, with a complex tectonic setting and high seismicity level. In 2016, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Australia National University (ANU) deployed 85 temporary seismometers to investigate this area. We constructed the shallow crust profile by applying the Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) method to improve our knowledge of the tectonic condition in West Java. In this research, we used the north-south (NS) and east-west (EW) components to extract the Love waves Green's function. We first rotated the NS and EW daily data series to obtain the transverse component. We then pre-processed the transverse daily data and applied cross-correlation to all station pair data. The daily cross-correlated data is stacked to obtain the Love waves Green's function. The Green's function in this study is clearly seen in the 1-25 s period band. The obtained Green's function will be analyzed further to get the Love waves group velocity which then will be inverted to obtain the shear wave velocity (Vs) profile beneath the study area. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
