Global warming due to excessive emission greenhouse gases is a significant issue faced by humanity, and collectively, cars and trucks contribute about 20% to the entire global-warming gases. For a reason, recently, many attempts have been endured to reduce the emission and to increase fuel efficiency, including vehicle platooning, better driving strategy, and increasing engine efficiency. This study intends to provide a more detail assessment regarding the effects of the driving strategy to fuel consumption. For the purpose, the vehicle dynamics are quantified by employing the car-following model based on the optimal velocity model. The fuel consumption is estimated from the regression model of Ahn 18 . The result suggests that the braking distance strongly affects fuel consumption.

Organizations face an urgent need to become faster, more efficient, and more successful in their commercial operations, given the current state of technological evolution and the arrival of Industry 4.0. Many businesses have adopted the idea of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to achieve this goal. The ERP system is expected to increase worker productivity, improve business performance to maximize profitability and profits, and provide accurate and up-to-date data and information to management and stakeholders. This research aims to find new variables related to integration problems in the use of ERP systems. Using the SPSS statistical program, the data collected will be examined using quantitative exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Data processing then includes collecting demographic information from respondents, reliability testing, conducting the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test, testing using an anti-image matrix, and deriving new factors using a rotation component matrix. This research seeks to identify new elements underlying ongoing integration problems in ERP system implementation. The research results show several reasons for underlying integration problems and offer in-depth information to management that can be used to analyze and evaluate the ERP system in their company appropriately in the future so that the company's performance becomes superior to the competition. © 2024 IEEE.

Classification of the Structural Integrity by the General Vibration Method

Traditionally, for the purpose of classifying the integrity of an engineering structure, one may use the information of the natural frequencies or mode shapes or some other measures derived from the two. In this research, we propose a classification method on the basis of the general vibration model. The general vibration model is essentially a set of differential equations describing the dynamics of the structure under consideration. For the purpose of damage detection, a deviation of the general vibration model from the dynamic equilibrium point marks the occurrence of the damage. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, we study two simplest dynamical systems consisting of one- and two-concentrated masses subjected to a prescribed dynamic load. The structural damages are introduced artificially by reducing the stiffness of spring in the structures. We find that the general vibration model is more sensitive to damages than the traditional methods.

In order to assist driver's vision, a real-time recognition system for traffic signs is proposed. After detecting sign candidates, biologically inspired opponent-color filters are used to extract symbol parts of signs. After normalizing the size of symbol, structural features are calculated to identify the sign. 5572 segmented images are used to design the algorithm. In a real-time system, the same sign in a sequence of frames is tracked, and a majority vote is used to integrate the recognition results. For test data, 93.8% recall rate and 99.3% precision rate could be attained. In-vehicle experiment also showed high recall and precision rates.

This paper uses the transmission mechanism of a coaxial counter-rotating rotorcraft equipped with blade designs of different airfoils. The blades are all made of aluminum alloy 6061T6. To study the deformation of the aluminum alloy blades of the rotorcraft when it hovers. It investigates the deformation and vibration displacement of the blade under the influence of aeroelasticity under the condition of fixed angle of attack and different rotation speeds. The airfoils used for study mainly consider the NACA0012 symmetrical airfoil and the other improved design Viper-X asymmetrical airfoil (A0) as test objects. The angle of attack used in the study is 10°, and the rotational speeds used are medium rotational speed ranges such as 400rpm, 450 rpm, 500 rpm, 550 rpm, and 600 rpm. A non-contact laser displacement sensor was used as the experimental measurement method for data measurement in this study. Finally, when the rotational speed exceeds 500rpm, the improved design of the asymmetric airfoil A0 is indeed more stable than the symmetrical airfoil NACA0012. © 2024 SPIE.

The current context of the furniture industry is represented by a competitive and demanding consumer market and the consequent need for modernization and implementation of methods and tools that contribute to a lean and efficient management, cost reduction and an increase of quality and productivity. This research aims to analyze the results obtained with the application of Lean Manufacturing in the inventory management of a furniture industry. A qualitative research strategy was adopted, in two phases, initially a literature review, followed by a case study in a Brazilian furniture company. The use of Lean Manufacturing principles, techniques and tools such as Value Stream Map, organization of productive process with Kanban, levelling of production with Heijunka, and percentage of inventory accuracy calculation helped significantly the company to identify and eliminate waste that was affecting process performance. Results were positive with an eight times reduction of the finished product inventory (almost 88% reduction) and lead time two and a half times smaller in the administrative management flow of inventory, even with addition of processes and people. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

This paper is about the PIV experimental study on aerodynamics of a coaxial counter-rotating rotors aircraft. The main purpose is to observe and record the flow field distribution of the coaxial counter-rotating rotors when hovering, and to determine the rotor blade profile design for stable flight. The experimental method is to observe the flow field coupling effect of coaxial counter-rotating rotors with flow field visualization technology. This study uses the blade S-0 improved by the symmetrical airfoil NACA0012 and the blade AS-0 improved by the asymmetrical airfoil Viper-X to conduct flow field observation experiments. In order to survey the aerodynamic characteristics of blade configurations in the flow field under different flight conditions. This study also conducted experiments on conditions such as low and medium rotational speed at high angles of attack, medium and high angles of attack at high rotational speed. The experimental results show that the flow field of the blade S-0 has a relatively stable flow field characteristics at low rotational speed. But when the rotational speed increases and the angle of attack becomes higher, the flow field stability of the blade AS-0 is better. Finally, the flow field of blade AS-0 is more stable than the flow field of blade S-0 under most flight conditions. Therefore, blade AS-0 is more suitable for assembly on coaxial counter-rotating rotors. © 2024 SPIE.

Effect of tensile axial loading on seismic performance (plastic shear deformation) of a laminated rubber bearing (LRB) was clarified. Cyclic loading tests were carried out to evaluate the relation between lateral force and lateral displacement of the LRB under seismic conditions (i.e., axial loading) and under worn conditions (i.e., 300 cycles). A strain measurement scheme based on image analysis was used to obtain the local strain fields of the LRB. Localized strain fields under tensile axial loading occurred more markedly at the corners of the free surface of the LRB than those under compressive axial loading. The seismic performance of the LRB under tensile or compressive axial loading was degraded severely after shear deformation incurred during 300 cycles. After 300 cycles, for the LRB under compressive axial loading, large localized shear strain fields occurred at the rubber layers underneath and on the inner steel plates, whereas, for the LRB under tensile axial loading, such large strain fields occurred at the rubber layers around the upper and lower steel plates. © 2005 EUCENTRE. Machine learning, applied to medical data, can uncover new knowledge and support medical practices. However, analyzing medical data by machine learning methods presents a trade-off between accuracy and privacy. To overcome the trade-off, we apply the data collaboration analysis method to medical data. This method using artificial dummy data enables analysis to compare distributed information without using the original data. The purpose of our experiment is to identify patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM), using 29,802 instances of real data obtained from the University of Tsukuba Hospital between 01/03/2013 and 30/09/2018. The whole data is divided into a number of datasets to simulate different hospitals. We propose the following improvements for the data collaboration analysis. (1) Making the dummy data which has a reality and (2) using non-linear reconverting functions into the comparable space. Both can be realized using the generative adversarial network (GAN) and Node2Vec, respectively. The improvement effects of dummy data with GAN scores more than 10% over the effects of dummy data with random numbers. Furthermore, the improvement effect of the re-conversion by Node2Vec with GAN anchor data scores about 20% higher than the linear method with random dummy data. Our results reveal that the data collaboration method with appropriate modifications, depending on data type, improves analysis performance. © 2021, The Author(s).
