Construction of a metadata space for a specific field of knowledge from an index of a document

In this paper, we propose a method for generating a metadata space of associations between words from an index of a book dealing with a specific field of interest. In order to implement a search mechanism using a mathematical model of meaning that deals with a specific field of interest, it is necessary to generate a search space called a metadata space dealing with the field of interest. In the past, the metadata space has been generated by using a terminology dictionary and a highly specialized knowledge base. Also, it is difficult to generate the metadata space if there is no terminology dictionary that deals with the field of interest. The proposed method does not require a terminology dictionary, and it allows the generation of the metadata space without a highly specialized knowledge base. Further, by applying this metadata space generation method to a mathematical model of meaning, a search mechanism based on the associations between words in the search target data, such as documents and media data, in the specific field of interest can be implemented. In this paper, taking examples from the IT field, the effectiveness of the method is verified by comparing the use of a metadata space generated from a terminology dictionary and the use of a metadata space generated from an index to search graphic media data. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Medical wastes bring probable hazards and public risks if not handled correctly, especially during the covid-19 pandemic. Waste management costs are rising due to continues devastation of covid-19 virus. Increased care and handling processes have been implemented to avoid further spreading the infection while ensuring the proper disposal. Given this, medical waste related to covid-19, including other wastes generated by medical facilities, requires delicate integration into the waste management process thru a reverse logistics network for cost-efficient collection, processing, and transport style. Using AMPL software as solving tool, this paper was designed to utilize a mixed-integer linear programming model of a reverse logistics network to improve medical waste management by identifying the total minimum cost of the waste disposal cycle from Waste generating facilities, treatment facilities, and to the disposal factory. © 2022 ACM.

We propose an underwater visible light communication (VLC) system for use in drones. The transmitter modulates a message using phase-shift keying (PSK) and emits the signal as LED fast-blinking light. The receiver captures this pattern with a CMOS image sensor using a rolling-shutter effect, and demodulates PSK. In existing VLC systems, rolling-shutter effect is used to transmit baseband signals; this system transmits a passband signal tolerant of low-frequency optical interference noise. System performance was evaluated in test-tank experiments. Findings suggested that the VLC system with PSK outperformed that using on-off keying when noise frequency did not exceed carrier frequency.

Reinforcement learning is a learning paradigm in which a control is learned automatically based on rewards through trial and error based on rewards. When reinforcement learning is employed for robot control, the action that is output by reinforcement learning and the input of the actuator are often the same. A robot's actuator has a time constant of a first-order delay element between input and output. Delays result in the deterioration of the reinforcement learning performance because the environments that contain them lack the Markov property. Although there have been studies of such environments, they are problematic in that performance deteriorates when the time constant of a first-order time-delay element greater than the control cycle. The principal contribution of this paper is to propose a compensator for reinforcement learning that is more effective than conventional methods for environments with a time constant of a first-order time-delay element greater than the control cycle. The purpose of the compensator is to minimize the difference between actions in delayed environments and those not in delayed environments. Experiments reveal that the compensator increases rewards within wider ranges than conventional methods.

Indonesia's geographical condition, which consists of 70 percent ocean territory, holds the potential for utilizing offshore wind turbines to provide cleaner energy. In this study, economic calculations were conducted for offshore wind turbines to generate green electricity and green hydrogen. The chosen ocean area for this endeavor is around the Papa offshore platform in the Java Sea. This area has experienced an economic decline, making it viable for repurposing as a sub-station for a powerhouse and an electrolyzer plant. Based on meteorological data analysis results, the area around the Papa offshore platform exhibits an average at height of 119 m;the wind speed is 5.5 m/*** prevailing wind direction is East Southeast (ESE), with a frequency of 25.2%. Further analysis of wind farms aimed at generating a capacity of 100.8 MW revealed an optimal potential energy generation of approximately 141,656.9 MWh per year. For scenario 1 (electricity production), the cost is $0.192/kWh. The levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) for scenario 2 (offshore electrolyzer) and scenario 3 (onshore electrolyzer) is $9.44/kg and $10.1/kg, respectively. To assess investment feasibility, a Net Present Value (NPV) analysis was conducted. This analysis yielded a selling price of electricity at $0.0271/kWh for the first scenario. For the second scenario, the selling price of hydrogen was calculated at $17.11/kg, and for the third scenario, it was $16.99/kg. Considering its flexibility and potential response to restrictions, the third scenario was deemed the most suitable for offshore utilization to produce clean energy. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Public Safety Decision-Making in the Context of Smart and Sustainable Cities

Prominent urbanization forces governments to rethink their management processes, incorporate new technologies and ensure quality of life through practices aligned with the concepts of smart and sustainable cities. With a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with commanders of two local police departments, this study investigated information orientation in the strategic decision-making process in the area of public safety in a small Brazilian city. The police departments have a limited ICT infrastructure to support the strategic decision-making process because their information systems are not connected. The results show that although the city of Pato Branco (Brazil) is considered a smart city in the area of public security, there are limited resources in several aspects of the police departments for the effective management of their ICT infrastructures. The impact of resource constraints reflects throughout the entire information use lifecycle - identification, collection, organization, processing, etc. - which fuels the strategic decision-making process. The implantation of an operations center could significantly reduce the effects of the problems identified in this research and further research may reveal the operational, technical, economic and financial viability of this proposal.

Introduction Polymers exhibit larger elongation and more significant rate- and time-dependent behavior at higher temperature [1]. To understand properties of polymer matrix composites and to correctly evaluate their performance characteristics, therefore, it is one of the most important issues to elucidate the time- and rate-dependent nonlinear behavior of polymer matrix composites at elevated temperature. The objective of the present study is to elucidate characteristics of the short-term stress relaxation behavior of angle-ply CFRP laminates at high temperature. The stress relaxation curves for various angle-ply laminates are presented. By the normalization with respect to the maximum stress at the beginning of each relaxation test, we obtain a master relaxation curve that is characterized by the off-axis time-dependent response of constituent unidirectional plies.

The cardiac muscle is elastic and deformable. Pushing a catheter in contact with the cardiac muscle surface to conduct focal energy-based ablative therapies, such as RF ablation, requires an adequate electrode-tissue contact surface to transfer the energy to the target site. In this regard, the relationship between the contact force (CF) and the resulting mechanical response is still unclear, in particular, the insertion depth (ID) and the diameter of the surface deformation. The objective of this study was to quantify these relationships using an ex vivo model and a computational model. A rigid bar with a 2.3 mm diameter blunt tip (mimicking a 7Fr standard ablation catheter) was placed at a perpendicular orientation on a fragment of the porcine heart. CF values ranged from 10 to 80g. We used ANSYS to build a Mooney-Rivlig model of 3 parameters based on hyperelastic material and to simulate the same conditions as in the experiments. This study embarked on a rigorous examination of the factors driving user satisfaction and usage behavior in the context of telehealth applications. Utilizing a well- structured Google Form survey, distributed through an array of social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Discord, Instagram, and Line, the research gathered 251 responses. The purposive sampling technique was employed to ensure that the data captured the experiences of individuals who had actively engaged with telehealth services. One hypothesis, relating to the influence of Online Reviews, was found to be unsupported. This surprising result suggests that, contrary to expectations, the opinions and reviews shared online do not significantly affect users' satisfaction or their behavioral decisions in the context of telehealth applications. This finding highlights the need for a more nuanced understanding of the factors influencing user preferences and choices in this rapidly evolving sector. Conversely, other hypotheses examining factors such as Social Influence, Facilitating Conditions, Perceived Reliability, Price Value, and Purchase Intention were substantiated. The positive influence of these factors on customer usage behavior underscores their significance in shaping user experiences and satisfaction within the telehealth ecosystem. Furthermore, the study posits that facilitating conditions should be closely aligned with technological advancements, as this alignment is conducive to the development of enhanced application features. This insight suggests that telehealth providers should continuously innovate and integrate advanced technologies to ensure that the facilitating conditions meet the ever-evolving needs and expectations of users. © 2023 IEEE.

An advanced two-fluid model has been developed in Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). In this model, an interface tracking method is combined with a two-fluid model. In this procedure, liquid clusters and bubbles larger than a computational cell are calculated using the interface tracking method, and those smaller than a cell are simulated by the two-fluid model. A turbulent dispersion force term is one of the most important constitutive equations for advanced two-fluid model. We have developed the new model for turbulent dispersion force and verified the developed model using the 3-dimensional two-fluid model code ACE-3D, and the comparisons between the results of the analyses and air-water two-phase flow experiments in 200 mm diameter pipe. In this study, to verify the applicability of developed model for middle diameter vertical pipe, we compared between the analyses of results and air-water two-phase flow experiments in 38 mm diameter pipe. © 2011 The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.
