The Langat River Basin in Malaysia is vulnerable to soil erosion risks because of its exposure to intensive land use activities and its topography,which primarily consists of steep slopes and mountainous ***,climate change frequently exposes this basin to drought,which negatively affects soil and water ***,recent studies have rarely shown how soil reacts to drought,such as soil ***,the purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between drought and soil erosion in the Langat River *** analyzed drought indices using Landsat 8 satellite images in November 2021,and created the normalized differential water index(NDWI)via Landsat 8 data to produce a drought *** used the revised universal soil loss equation(RUSLE)model to predict soil *** verified an association between the NDWI and soil erosion data using a correlation *** results revealed that the southern and northern regions of the study area experienced drought *** predicted an average annual soil erosion of approximately 58.11 t/(hm^(2)·a).Analysis of the association between the NDWI and soil erosion revealed a strong positive correlation,with a Pearson correlation coefficient of *** assumed that the slope length and steepness factor was the primary contributor to soil erosion in the study *** a result,these findings can help authorities plan effective measures to reduce the impacts of drought and soil erosion in the future.

Carrageenan is a sulfated polysaccharide that demonstrates excellent film-forming properties. In contrast, many hydroxyl and sulfate groups in their structures produce a carrageenan film highly hydrophilic and demonstrate comparatively poor mechanical. Therefore, it is necessary to blend Carrageenan with other biopolymers to improve the film's mechanical properties. This paper aims to study the characterization of the composite film by combining ĸ Carrageenan and Chitosan using CaCl2 and KCl cross-link agents. The composite film product was characterized by measuring its moisture content, solubility, swelling degree, water vapour permeability, oxygen permeability, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The result shows that the addition of Chitosan could improve the properties of ĸ carrageenan film. CaCl2 and KCl cross-link agents reduce moisture content, swelling, solubility, water vapour permeability, and oxygen permeability of uncrosslinked film, which is suitable for food packaging.

This study presents an investigation of chemical and physical characterization, green process analysis, techno-economic considerations, and carbon emissions for synthesizing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from plastic and can waste using microwave-assisted synthesis. The microwave-assisted synthesis proves to be more cost-effective, with a reduction in CO₂ emissions by up to 80%. The synthesized material (MIL-Mw-U) demonstrates excellent performance in methylene blue (MB) removal, achieving 98.41% removal, with 97.87% removal although the catalyst is used in the third cycle. The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) onto MIL-Mw-U achieved a maximum capacity of 295.26 mgg⁻¹ at pH 3 and decreased to 258.68 mgg⁻¹ at pH 11 due to OH⁻ competition. The Langmuir isotherm (R² = 0.9381) and pseudo-second-order kinetics (R² = 0.999) confirmed monolayer chemisorption as the dominant mechanism. This innovative approach supports circular economy principles by converting can and plastic bottle waste into functional material for dye removal, offering sustainable solutions for environmental challenges. © 2025 The Authors

The sources of aroma can be varied according to the food's type and it is part of the ingredients that has an important role to increase people interest in certain foods. However, the most popular source of aroma is rum which is not halal for Muslim community. In this research, the researcher wanted to see the effect of adding essential oil from nutmeg seeds to the addition of the aroma of cookies made from durian seed flour to see the acceptance of customers of the product innovation using nutmeg essential oil to increase the aroma of cookies or food products that usually using rum or non-halal products and seeing the long-term impact that could possibly create sustainability advantages by occupying the waste of durian seed in to flour to substitute wheat flour. This study uses an organoleptic test. The science that uses the human senses to measure the texture, appearance, aroma, and taste of a food product is called sensory or organoleptic evaluation. Assessment of appearance, taste, and texture describes consumer acceptance of a product. The results show that consumers acceptance for this product innovation well so that the control prescription that can be given for this product innovation can be continued. The second experiment got the highest response compared to the first and third experiments.

With regard to its high carbohydrate and gum contents, durian seed flour has been used as a substitute to wheat flour in butter cake and cookies manufactures. Unfortunately, processing of fruit seeds into flour may be hampered by discoloration, which may affect the nutrition and sensory quality of the food products. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of soaking time on the physicochemical and functional properties of durian seed flour. Durian seed chips were soaked in 0.6% w/v sodium metabisulfite solution as anti-browning agent at 30°C for desired periods (40, 60, 80, 100, 120 minutes), followed by drying at 50°C for 17 hours, milling and sieving to obtain flour. The flour was analyzed for its moisture, ash, protein, fat and carbohydrate contents, sulfite residue, yield, gelatinization temperature, and water and oil absorption capacities (WAC and OAC). The results showed that longer soaking time reduced the moisture and ash content of durian seed flour, but increased most of the other studied parameters. The WAC, OAC and fat content were less affected by soaking time. It can be concluded that soaking of durian seed chips in sodium metabisulfite solution can improve the nutrition and functional properties of flour. Based on the residual sulfite content, durian seed flour obtained in this work is safe for consumption. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

The problem of environmental pollution especially urban water pollution becomes major issue in Indonesia. The cause of water pollution is not only from industrial factory waste disposal but also other causes which become pollution factor. One cause of water pollution is the existence of agricultural activities with the use of the amount of pesticides that exceed the threshold. As regulated in Government Regulation No. 82/2001 on Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control, it is necessary to manage water quality and control water pollution wisely by taking into account the interests of current and future generations as well as the ecological balance. To overcome the problem of water pollution due to agricultural activities, it is necessary to conduct research on phytoremediation technique by utilizing eceng gondok plant. It is excepted that using this phytoremediation technique can reduce the problem of water pollution due to the use of pesticides on agricultural activities. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Bioenergy is one of the renewable energies which is predicted to be a main energy in the next few years. It can play the important role to change the current fossil fuel-based energy into a green energy which has a low carbon footprint. A research about how to develop a bioenergy have been done by a lot of reseacher. However, especially in Indonesia, there is just few research to study about bioenergy from societal aspects poin of view such as the understanding and awarness of bioenergy among citizens. In this research, we have investigated senior high school students' knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes interconected to bioenergy with online survery. The survey instrument used in the study was adopted from P. Halder's study. The data was collected from students at senior high school th (SMAN 10) Jambi City. The results showed that the students awareness of bioenergy perceived from school, home, and social media have significant effects on their knowledge, perceptions and attitudes related to bioenergy. Among 211 students as respondent (N), we found 70.62% believe that they understand well the concept about bioenergy, 5.21% believe that they understand it very well, and the rest believe that they do not understand it. This understanding reflects to their willingness to use a bioenergy in their daily life, in which 71.70% respondents agree to use bioenergy, 25.47% respondents can not decide, and only 2.83% do not want to use it. To find the relationship among the variables, a multiple regression was conducted. A statistical analysis showed that the model for knowledge as a function of attitudes and perception does not fit the data therefore this model is rejected. However, both model for attitudes as function of perception and knowledge, and also perception as function of attitudes and knowldeges fit the data hence the models are accepted. The developed performance evaluation method of an industrial scale updraft woody and woody-like biomass gasifier using a thermodynamic approach

Recently, biomass gasification technology for supplying heat has attracted several energy-intensive industries, such as ceramics and hot mixed asphalt production, as the fossil fuel pricing escalates, and environmental issues dominate the news. It offers higher energy efficiency, raw material flexibility, a wider range of capacities, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Palm kernel shell is a potential biomass source in Indonesia as feedstock of the gasification process because of its high calorific value, abundance, and being considered as carbon-neutral and sustainable. The gasification process performance should be measured based on carbon conversion efficiency (CCE) and cold gas efficiency (CGE) to guarantee the operation's reliability. This study aims to develop the performance evaluation method of an industrial updraft woody and woody-like biomass gasification system using air as a gasifying agent for supplying heat through a thermodynamic approach. The model developed was created using licensed Aspen Plus v.11 software. The constructed model was validated with several laboratory experiments of previous researchers using various types of biomass considering carbon monoxide and hydrogen contents in the producer gas. The thermodynamic model showed a good agreement with the experimental data assessed based on root mean square error (RMSE) value for H2 and CO being 3.02 and 2.10, respectively. The developed model was implemented to evaluate performance of an asphalt mixing plant with palm kernel shell updraft gasifier as a heating source of aggregate. It was observed that at the operation condition of equivalent ratio (ER) of 0.082, the CCE and CGE were 46% and 38%, respectively. The model dictates that this installation unit should be operated at an ER value of 0.28, which is equivalent to a feedstock flowrate of 990 kg/h and an air gasifying agent flowrate of 1250 Nm3/h to achieve near to 95.20% of CCE and 76.34% of CGE. Human needs of food is the absolutely important thing that must be fulfilled, therefore food availability is the very important issue now. Indonesian still use rice for the main source of food, even though Indonesia still have another potential saving to meet national food needs like sago (Metroxylon Sagu). Hydrolysis of sago starch can improve physicochemical properties. The purpose of this research is to hydrolyse sago starch with lactic acid oxidation with H2O2 to improve baking expansion. The variable is the influence of pH to the physicochemical properties of modified starch and the baking expansion, the influence of H2O2 concentration to the physicochemical properties of modified starch and the baking expansion, and the influence of temperature of H2O2 to the physicochemical properties of modified starch and the baking expansion. Based on the physicochemical and rheology properties of modified starch we know the quality of the starch. The modified starch is then analysed the physicochemical and rheology properties such as swelling power, solubility, and baking expansion. The swelling power, solubility, and baking expansion of the starch increase linearly as the temperature increase from 35°C through 50°C. The pH increases from 4 to 6, and the concentration of H2O2 increase from 1% through 2%. However, the baking expansion decreases at pH 6 through pH 8 revealing an optimum acidity for the hydrolysis of sago starch.

Biobuthanol is produced by fermentation of lignocellulose waste from Clostridium acetobutylicum by the ABE (Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol) fermentation method. In this research on biobuthanol production, variations in the type and composition of lignocelluloses raw materials (rice husk and corn husk) were carried out. The steps of this research include delignification, hydrolysis, fermentation, and yield analysis. The results found in this study are that in the comparison of types and composition mixture of raw materials, the highest production of biobuthanol is achieved in samples with a variation of the composition of the raw material mixture of 25% rice husk and 75% corn husk, this is due to the discovery of the highest levels of cellulose with the least lignin in the sample, so that the hydrolysis process can take place quickly and produce more glucose as the main substrate in biobuthanol fermentation.
