Exploring the economic benefits and stability of renewable energy microgrids with controllable power sources under carbon fee and random outage scenarios

This study investigates the application models and economic benefits of controllable power sources in microgrids under various carbon fee scenarios using a convenience store in Taiwan as a case study. Convenience stores are characterized by their high energy consumption and heavy reliance on stable power supply, and therefore underscore the importance of optimizing microgrid configurations to reduce operational costs and carbon emissions. This research adopts an innovative approach by integrating renewable-energy hybrid systems and advanced energy-storage technologies. Optimization simulations combining wind power, solar energy, and energy-storage systems are conducted using different HomerPro dispatch strategies, considering fixed parameters such as the nominal discount rate (2.125 %), inflation rate (1.37 %), and the annual average rate increase of Taiwan Power Company. These simulations evaluate their impact on system performance to enhance overall system efficiency and stability. During grid outages, self-generated renewable energy and storage systems may be insufficient to meet load demands, thus necessitating backup diesel generators. In this study, the formulated optimization problem explicitly aims to minimize the net present cost (NPC), which includes fuel costs, carbon emission fees, and capital investments, subject to feasible constraints such as power balance, battery state-of-charge (SoC) limits, and equipment capacity restrictions. Consequently, under these conditions, HomerPro's simulation automatically dispatches the generator only when the available renewable energy generation and battery storage capacities are inadequate to supply the critical loads, thereby effectively minimizing overall operational costs and carbon emissions. To connect renewable energy sources (e.g. solar or wind) on the grid, an inverter or electronic converter is used. However, a traditional inverter has no inertia in the face of frequency changes. Unlike the inertia of the rotor of a synchronous generator. Frequency variations are a product of the imbalance between the energy generated and the grid loads. If the frequency is too far from its nominal value or if the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) is high, it can affect the synchronism of the generators that feed the grid. Therefore, power cuts are made in sectors on the grid, thus preventing instability from spreading to other sectors on the grid, which translates into large economic losses. Solutions such as inverters with virtual inertia (or emulated inertia) are a good alternative due to their structural simplicity and low cost, compared to other solutions such as synchronous condensers, for example. For the virtual inertial control strategy, the grid frequency needs to be measured. This article compares the use of a phase-locked loop (PLL) or a frequency-locked loop (FLL) for frequency estimation and its effect on inertia emulation. In this proposed research are analyzed general solutions and techniques to optimize the solar luminosity measurement by a designed smart system, as well as its usability by the solar energy conversion and its storing. However, many times, this kind of systems have not an optimal solar path tracker and as a consequence it can not be measured the full solar luminosity during all the day, therefore, in this work are designed optimal mathematical models and algorithms to enhance the solar path tracker according to measure solar luminosity and getting optimal solar energy conversion/storing, which is useful to study geographical conditions before to build solar energy conversion centers. As well as, in this research also is studied and suggested some techniques to get wireless data communication regarding the measured environmental variables, measured solar luminosity and stored electrical energy as a consequence of the solar energy conversion, which can be transmitted, so far away, to a central monitoring center by Radio Frequency (RF) waves. © 2024, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). Prediction and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)based,among other things,on medical examinations and patient symptoms are the biggest challenges in *** 17.9 million people die from CVDs annually,accounting for 31%of all deaths *** a timely prognosis and thorough consideration of the patient’s medical history and lifestyle,it is possible to predict CVDs and take preventive measures to eliminate or control this life-threatening *** this study,we used various patient datasets from a major hospital in the United States as prognostic factors for *** data was obtained by monitoring a total of 918 patients whose criteria for adults were 28-77 years *** this study,we present a data mining modeling approach to analyze the performance,classification accuracy and number of clusters on Cardiovascular Disease Prognostic datasets in unsupervised machine learning(ML)using the Orange data mining *** techniques are then used to classify the model parameters,such as k-nearest neighbors,support vector machine,random forest,artificial neural network(ANN),naïve bayes,logistic regression,stochastic gradient descent(SGD),and *** determine the number of clusters,various unsupervised ML clustering methods were used,such as k-means,hierarchical,and density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise *** results showed that the best model performance analysis and classification accuracy were SGD and ANN,both of which had a high score of 0.900 on Cardiovascular Disease Prognostic *** on the results of most clustering methods,such as k-means and hierarchical clustering,Cardiovascular Disease Prognostic datasets can be divided into two *** prognostic accuracy of CVD depends on the accuracy of the proposed model in determining the diagnostic *** more accurate the model,the better it can predict which patients are at risk for CVD.

This study proposes a conceptual design of green hydrogen production via proton exchange membrane electrolysis powered by a floating solar photovoltaic *** system contributes to industrial decarbonization in which hydrogen blending with natural gas is proposed as an approach to smooth the energy *** proposed design addresses the challenge of supplying a continuous flow-rate of green hydrogen,which is typically demanded by industrial end *** study particularly considers a realistic area required for the installation of a floating solar photovoltaic *** enable the green hydrogen production of 7.5 million standard cubic feet per day,the required structure includes the floating solar photovoltaic system and Li-ion batteries with the nominal capacities of 518.4 megawatts and 780.8 *** is equivalent to the requirement for 1524765 photovoltaic modules and 3718 Li-ion *** assessment confirms the technical viability of the proposed concept of green hydrogen production,transportation and *** the present commercialization is hindered by economics due to a high green hydrogen production cost of USD 26.95 per kg,this green hydrogen pathway is expected to be competitive with grey hydrogen produced via coal gasification and via natural gas steam reforming by 2043 and 2047,respectively.

This research discusses the safety challenges faced by bicycle smart parking systems, which are often irregular and unsafe, especially in Indonesia. The purpose of this research is to develop an RFID-based smart parking system for electric bicycles that improves user safety and accessibility. The system is designed using components such as the NodeMCU 8266 microcontroller, RFID module, and solenoid lock, and is tested under real-world conditions. Using the C++ programming language to be embedded in a microcontroller. Quantitative results show that the system achieved an 80% success rate in RFID detection on various materials with optimal performance through acrylic barriers. The system demonstrates better safety compared to traditional bicycle parking solutions, which contributes to increased public confidence in the safety of electric bicycles. © 2024 IEEE.

In Taiwan, traditional production equipment for the mainframe panels is imported from overseas, and the parameters are adjusted through the operation panel for automated manufacturing. However, these parameters are slightly different from those used in Taiwan, requiring manual recording of warning parameters to ensure quality control. Currently, the only way to capture the operation records of these machines is by manually recording the system panel information, which is a time-consuming and laborious process that is expensive for production line personnel. In this work, we use image recognition to capture and analyze data externally without damaging the machine. This research improves the ESRGAN network to restore the image details and textures of the mainframe panels. It also captures relevant data with Google OCR to convert panel images into parameter values. The captured results are combined with data analysis to provide more accurate standard mainframe panel information. Even under different interference source conditions, data extraction and analysis can still be carried out to output the text files, effectively assisting the production line in recording the machine panel parameters and reducing personnel’s workload. © 2024 IETE.

Forest and land fires in Indonesia are a major concern for the government when entering the dry season. The researchers have widely developed early detection technology, including satellite and airborne-based technology, but it faces several limitations due to the influence of weather and other unavoidable factors. Furthermore, fire detection technology based on wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and the Internet of Things (loT) is one of the most effective solutions. This study developed a sensor node that includes an Arduino UNO, a smoke sensor, a fire sensor, and temperature and humidity sensors and code program using C++, to detect potential forest fires. We place these nodes at fire-prone points in the forest. Additionally, the gateway node receive data from the sensor node, process it using the NodeMCU ESP8266, and send it to the *** database for real-time report. The developed system's test results demonstrate that it can display and send data in real-time to the *** platform via an internet connection. Additionally, the base station's physical 12C 20x4 LCD screen displays the information. The forest fire early warning system functions well, and the test results show good detection and data transmission capabilities. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper is concerned with developing a shrouded design for a diffuser-augmented wind turbine (DAWT) suitable for use in urban areas, such as on the rooftops of buildings or houses. This study would specifically investigate the effects of the developed designs on wind pressure and velocity conditions at the diffusers' inlet and outlet areas. Using the SOLIDWORKS application, two design concepts were created: single-layered and double-layered. The first concept used a single cone-shaped structured diffuser, whereas the second concept used a cone-shaped structure but with a smaller cone-shaped structure placed inside the first structure. To determine the pressure and velocity variations along the diffuser’s inlet and outlet areas, these concepts were simulated using the ANSYS Fluent® application. The results strongly favored the double shrouded design of Concept 2 in both velocity and pressure simulations, with a velocity increment of 102% and a drag force of −0.161 N. The actual test results also show promising data that would make the prototype feasible for use in an urban area, with an average efficiency of 40% and a high efficiency compared to other urban-built wind turbines. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
