Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system can be considered as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) system implemented to engineering structure to provide real-time information on the integrity of the structure. In doing so, the system acquires data from various sensors distributed across the structure and infers damage sensitive quantities. In the research, we proposed a damage index derived from the governing dynamics of the structure in the frequency domain. The proposal was empirically verified by applying the index to analyze the case of a cracked cantilever beam subjected to a harmonic load. The value of the damage index was computed at some points surrounding the crack to understand the effect of the distance of the monitoring point to the crack to the index sensitivity. The results suggest that the index is sensitive to the crack particularly when the observation point is near the crack. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This study explores the impact of halal labels on the purchase interest of foreign Muslim consumers in Taiwan, focusing on packaged ice cream. A total of 92 respondents from 11 different nationalities participated in the survey, providing insights into how halal certification influences consumer behavior in a non-Muslim majority country. The research used a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data from structured questionnaires and qualitative insights from interviews. The findings indicate a strong positive correlation (p = 0.985, p < 0.001) between the presence of halal labels and consumers' purchase intentions. Halal labels act as a key factor in building trust and encouraging the purchase of ice cream among Muslim consumers. The study highlights the importance of halal certification not only as a religious requirement but also as a marker of quality, safety, and ethical production standards. These insights are crucial for businesses and policymakers aiming to tap into the growing halal market in Taiwan.

Gamification is the process of incorporating game design aspects into non-gaming products or services to enhance usage and provide more long-term effects. The implementation of gamification in diverse practical focus areas necessitates the application and adaptation of the gamification theoretical idea to technological breakthroughs and their application. The goal of this study is to examine the determinants of gamification in the marketplace using gamified learning theory. This research takes a quantitative approach, utilizing SEM-PLS modeling and the SmartPLS 4.0 analytic tool. Participants from Generation Z were employed for this study. This group is recognized for its tendency to become readily bored and to move around while utilizing a product. According to the findings of this study, varying the intensity of recommendations to other people can demonstrate that the output does not only stop at the outcomes of playing, such as the acquisition of coins or other rewards, but also extends to the act of recommending to others. This is consistent with the game's features, which include the ability to invite friends to help finish objectives. This study has theoretical significance for enhancing differentiated learning theory. In practice, the findings of this study highlight the importance of consistently designing instructional features and content to keep students' attention. The research's flaws stem from the usage of limited game elements and the participants' background profile, which was ignored in favor of ignoring their game experience.

Optimizing dispersion of torrefied spent coffee grounds for enhanced biochar-EVA composite properties through sodium percarbonate-assisted treatment

This study aims to optimize biochar by combining 10 % sodium percarbonate with 90 % spent coffee grounds and torrefying at 300 °C for 30 min. Biochar enhances black color dispersion in a composite when blending the optimal biochar and ethylene vinyl acetate. The maximum carbon content of the optimal biochar is 59.97 %, exhibiting similar dispersion, packing density, pore size, and contact angle to carbon black. The optimal biochar's specific surface area and total pore volume are 7.12 m2·g−1 and 0.0018 cm3·g−1, respectively, 2.9 times and 1.2 times that of untreated torrefied spent coffee grounds with SP treated. The mechanical properties of the composite, which is blended with 15 wt% of the optimal biochar to ethylene vinyl acetate through trade-off analysis, indicate a tensile strength and Young's modulus of 1.03 MPa and 9.69 MPa, respectively. As the amount of blended optimal biochar increases, the tensile strength decreases while Young's modulus increases. Compared with a composite blended with the same 15 wt% of carbon black, the tensile strength and Young's modulus are 0.77 MPa and 9.55 MPa, respectively. In conclusion, the optimal biochar is a potential alternative material that could replace carbon black. This finding aligns with the developmental direction of achieving negative carbon emissions, promoting a circular economy and valorizing waste. © 2025 The Korean Society of Industrial and engineering Chemistry

Indonesia has a high tendency of having landslides. Bogor is one of regency which is very prone to landslide disaster due to high rainfall. Landslides are a very dangerous threat to public safety. The preparedness can build disaster resilient communities that can support the national resilience. Sociodemographic characteristic and disaster experience are determining factors for the success of preparedness. The purpose of this research is to develop a model of the influence of sociodemographic characteristics and disaster experience toward household preparedness for facing landslide. This research is done in Cibadak Village, Sukamakmur Bogor. This research uses a quantitative approach with 100 sample of households. Multiple linear regression technique is used for analyzing the model. The results of the research showed that household preparedness is significantly influenced by sociodemographic characteristics which is education (p = 0.000), meanwhile age, income and the number of family member don't significantly influence. Beside that the household preparedness is also greatly influenced by disaster experience too (p = 0.000). Education influence on household preparedness for facing landslide as much as 38.81% and the disaster experience is 52.85%. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The purposes of this study are to propose an effective control scheme to meet safety requirements for human and environment, and to perform experiments on a laboratory scale gantry crane. The RTG (rubber tyred gantry) prototype used in this paper consist of a hoist mechanism, trolley mechanism and a spreader. The hoist and trolley mechanism used an asynchronous motor as actuator. The variable frequency drive width modulation (PWM) signal was used to drive the asynchronous motor for a hoist and trolley mechanism. A proportional (P) controller was designed in such a way to drive the hoist and the trolley to reduce the sway and to avoid collisions of the spreader. The system and the proposed control scheme were confirmed through experiments. The experimental results revealed that the position, the sway and collision of the system can be controlled effectively.

LED-based photoacoustic imaging (PAI) with linear array ultrasound probes has gained attention due to its cost-effectiveness, safety, and potential for portable applications. However, its low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and limited visibility of blood vessel lumens remain challenges. To address these issues, we propose an innovative deconvolution approach that leverages the differential of the LED light pulse to enhance photoacoustic image quality. Our optimized reconstruction algorithm improves blood vessel visualization by applying deconvolution of the PA signals with the differential of the LED pulse, leading to improved lumen visibility and enhanced imaging of peripheral blood vessels in both 2D and potentially 3D. Our method precisely measures the LED pulse profile using the LED arrays integrated into our AcousticX system. The second differential of this pulse is then utilized as the point spread function (PSF) in the deconvolution process. This technique effectively enhances PA signals by emphasizing the leading and trailing edges of the pulse, thereby improving blood vessel visibility and overall image quality. To validate our approach, we conducted experiments using tissue-mimicking phantoms and human volunteers with the AcousticX system. The algorithm was tested offline in MATLAB and in real-time on the AcousticX platform. Results demonstrate substantial artifact suppression, improved SNR, and enhanced image contrast, ultimately enabling clearer visualization of the blood vessels. This advancement improves the competitiveness of LED-based PAI systems compared to laser-based alternatives and broadens their potential for clinical applications, accelerating their translation into medical practice. © 2025 SPIE.

Aside from providing considerable benefits to individuals, AI can also generate anxiety, especially given its sophistication and the level of intimidation that exists in everyday life. The aim of the paper is to assess the usage behavior of AI, using anxiety-related AI configuration as an exogenous variable and gender as a moderating factor. This study was conducted using a quantitative method with empirical approach, utilizing data from 81 participating Indonesian academics. We used SmartPLS 4.0 and SEM-PLS to conduct this research. The study's findings effectively show that anxiety-related AI configurations significantly influence AI usage behavior in negative interactions (P value $=\mathbf{0. 024}$ ; original sample $=-0.51$ ). This study also explained that as worry levels increase, women's efficiency decreases, resulting in a lower aptitude for AI use when compared to men. As their anxiety levels increase, more women consider using artificial intelligence. This study benefits both scholars and the industry by deepening our understanding of behavioral attitudes towards AI use, with a particular focus on gender-based AI users.

Purpose: This viewpoint aims to present reflections on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic scenario and the entrepreneurial potential of Brazilian students. Guidelines are proposed to support debates in the academic environment and better prepare future entrepreneurs to the labour market. Design/methodology/approach: Since this is a viewpoint article, some statements presented here are characterised by the authors' opinions. However, for a better foundation, bibliographic research related to the theme was carried out. Findings: In the authors' point of view, the COVID-19 pandemic scenario may negatively influence the decisions of Brazilian students that are characterised as potential future entrepreneurs. Educators can use the guidelines presented here to conduct debates with students in order to clarify aspects related to profile, behaviour and other issues. Originality/value: By understanding better entrepreneurial aspects in the COVID-19 pandemic scenario, Brazilian students can make better decisions.
