作者: M. Feemster D.M. Dawson A. Behal W. Dixon Matthew Feemster received the B.S degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University Clemson South Carolina in December 1994. Upon graduation he remained at Clemson University and received the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1997. During this time he also served as a research/teaching assistant. His research work focused on the design and implementation of various nonlinear control algorithms with emphasis on the induction motor and mechanical systems with friction present. He is currently working toward his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at Clemson University. Darren M. Dawson was born in 1962 in Macon Georgia. He received an Associate Degree in Mathematics from Macon Junior College in 1982 and a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1984. He then worked for Westinghouse as a control engineer from 1985 to 1987. In 1987 he returned to the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received the Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering in March 1990. During this time he also served as a research/teaching assistant. In July 1990 he joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) at Clemson University where he currently holds the position of Professor. Under the CAM director's supervision he currently leads the Robotics and Manufacturing Automation Laboratory which is jointly operated by the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering departments. His main research interests are in the fields of nonlinear based robust adaptive and learning control with application to electro-mechanical systems including robot manipulators motor drives magnetic bearings flexible cables flexible beams and high-speed transport systems. Aman Behal was born in India in 1973. He received his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 1996. Previous professional employment includes positions at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and General Motors Corporation. He received his master's and doctoral degrees at Purdue University and his bachelor's degree at Rose-Hulman Institute of Ethnology. His research interests include artificial intelligence robotics and paraliel computing. Rammohan K. Ragade:is professor of engineering mathematics and computer science at the University of Louisville. He received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kampur in 1968. He has been a faculty member at the University of Waterloo and held an engineering position with Bell Northern Research. His research interests include human-computer interaction decision support systems object-oriented simulation and modeling distributed database systems and fuzzy logic. John G. Shea Jr.:served until 1995 as a project manager in the Phalanx Engineering Section of Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division Louisville Station. He completed his bachelor of science degree in aeropace and ocean engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1985 and his master of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland in 1990. Mr. Dirlik recently completed a master of science program in applied physics at The Johns Hopins University and currently works in the Radar Cross Section and Target Physics Branch of the Signatures Directorate at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Corderoke Division. He has worked on Navy low observable programs since 1990. Stephen Hambric:is a research associate at the Applied Research Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University. He received his B. S. and M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his D. Sc. in mechnical engineering from the George Washington University. He has worked on several computer aided multidiscikplinary design and optimization projects over the years including an automated propeller design system and a structural acoustic optimization capability. Dr. Shpour Azarm:is currently working as an associate professor with the Design and Manufacturing Group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of maryland at College Park. Dr Azarm's expertise is in the areas of optimization-based designed and concurrent design and optimization of multidisciplinary systems. Before joining the Hopkins faculty in 1994 he was a professor of ocean engineering for twenty-five years at the U.S. Naval Academy. In addition he has held full-time faculty positions at Swarthmore College Trinity College (Hartford) and the Catholic University of America. He was also a hydrodynamicist at the David Taylor Model Basin for more than four years. Prof. McCormick received his undergraduate degree in mathematics and physics from AmericanUniversity a masters degree in applied mechanics and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Catholic University a Ph.D. in civil engineering and a Sc.D. in engineering science from Trinity College in Dublin Ireland. He has over 100 publications including two books in the areas of ocean engineering wave mechanics and ocean wave energy conversion. He has also edited two books dealing with ocean engineering. In addition he is co-editor of both the journal Ocean Engineering and the Elsevier book series in ocean engineering. Dr. Rameswar Bhattacharyya:is professor of naval architecture at the U.S. Naval Academy where he has served for twenty-six years and adjunct professor of mechanical engineering at The Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining the Naval Academy faculty he was a faculty member in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Michigan. His research experience includes ten years at both the Lubecker Flender-Werke and the Hamburg Ship Model Basin in Germany. He has a continuing interest in assessing foreign technologies in comparison to the United States.—-On the faculty of the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola College Dr. DeHaemer is a former department chairman and an associate professor of information systems and decision sciences. He teaches the strategic use of information technology and human-computer interface design. His research includes user performance with automated speech recognition systems for computers and business applications of artificial intelligence. (1099–18th St. Ste. 2100 Denver CO 80202) he is responsible for maintaining and expanding Geraghty & Miller's technical expertise in geology/hydrogeology engineering modeling risk assessment bioremediation and many other areas. He also provides expertise in engineering services including the design of treatment systems for contaminated water sites throughout the United States. He has designed and installed more than 100 ground water and soil remediation systems. He is a member of the Water Pollution Control Federation the National Ground Water Association the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers. David C. Schafer is a principal scientist/associate with Geraghty & Miller Inc. He attended the University of Minnesota where he obtained a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in computer science. Prior to joining Geraghty & Miller he worked for a major water well equipment manufacturer for 19 years. Throughout his career he has specialized in the design of monitoring and production wells and the analysis and interpretation of pumping test data. He has written numerous articles on these subjects and has designed and analyzed pumping tests from hundreds of wells throughout North America.
