Sentiment analysis of both text and images have been widely implemented machine learning application. Facial expression recognition (FER) is a widely known application of sentiment analysis of image data. This application has already been implemented in various industry, but challenges such as the complexities of facial features and different image angle still remain. This project aims to develop a FER system capable of classifying human expressions through facial images using deep learning techniques. A CNN-based architecture was proposed and training using the FER2013 dataset, which is a commonly used facial expression dataset. Overall, the trained model achieved an accuracy of 63.97% through the dataset. The trained CNN model was then employed to develop a web-based prototype of a FER system through Python Flask. © 2024 IEEE.

With the rapid growth of the stock market, many researchers examined the profitability and market efficiency of various trading strategies with the idea of Momentum Investing. This study optimizes the Moving Average Convergence-Divergence (MACD) oscillator and tests its performance under different trading strategies. The research simulates the trading process of 40 U.S. industry portfolios from 1926 to 2021 using different MACD oscillators constructed by the Exponential Moving Average (EMA) indicators of different decay parameters. To acquire the optimal MACD oscillator, the study performs the OLS linear regression analysis on each industry's stimulated excess returns and excess industry portfolio returns and uses the corresponding regression coefficients (alpha and beta) as the assessment criteria of the performance. To further optimize the model, the study improves the traditional trading strategy, the simple-crossover operation, to the n-day holding strategy, which aims to weaken the influence of false signals. The result shows that MACD strategies generally have positive alpha, hinting that investor can utilize this indicator to diversify portfolios and hedge their risks.

After a long period of development, blockchain innovation has received much attention from scholars and industry practitioners alike. This innovation allows the issuance of smart contracts, which are utilised to automate and execute deals amongst clients. Blockchain is also being used nowadays by a few IT applications as a specialised foundation. This technology also prevents the duplication of information similar to what is being done with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Specifically, Bitcoin records are virtually impossible to alter as this cryptocurrency is being traded amongst hundreds of thousands of servers. Therefore, to launch a successful attack, the aggressor should change the Bitcoin records of 51% of these servers simultaneously. The cost of such effort significantly exceeds the potential payoff. Meanwhile, private data that are stored on single servers, such as Amazon and Google, are prone to malicious attacks. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the use of blockchain to solve the security issues in the Internet of Things (IOT). We initially identify and categorise the prevalent security issues, particularly data privacy, being faced in IoT in expansion to conventions utilized for organizing, communication, and administration. Afterwards, we formulate some security measures for IoT and illustrate scenarios where blockchain is being used in IoT applications. © 2022 Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics. This paper examines the performance of a new Hidden Markov Model (HMM) structure used as the core of an Internet traffic classsifier and compares the results against other models present in the literature. Traffic modeling and classification find importance in many areas such as bandwidth management, traffic analysis, prediction and engineering, network planning, Quality of Service provisioning and anomalous traffic detection. The new HMM structure, which takes into account the packet payload size (PS) and the inter-packet times (IPT) sequences, is obtained by concatenation of a first part which is framed with a HMM profile with another part whose structure is that of a fully-connected HMM. The first part captures the specific properties of the initial protocol packets while the second part captures the statistical properties of the whole sequence present in the flow. Models generated are found to increase the accurate in classifying different traffic classes in the analysed dataset. The average accuracy obtained by the classifier is 62.5% having seen only five packets, 80.0% after examining 13 packets and 95.5% after seeing the unidirectional entire flow. © 2010 IEEE.

Feathers present exquisite shapes and visual patterns. Just recently feathers have been addressed in computer graphics with realistic-looking results. Current solutions, however, make use of texture mapping for adding the visual patterns seen on feathers. In this paper we present an integrated model for direct texture synthesis of feather pigmentation patterns. The model uses Bezier curves to model the feather shape and procedural MCLONE patterns for the synthesis of feather pigmentation patterns. We show that the Clonal Mosaic model (MCLONE) is a viable option for direct texture synthesis of the many pigmentation feather patterns found in Nature.

We present a wavelet-based approach for selecting patches in patch-based texture synthesis. We randomly select the first block that satisfies a minimum error criterion, computed from the wavelet coefficients (using 1D or 2D wavelets) for the overlapping region. We show that our wavelet-based approach improves texture synthesis for samples where previous work fails, mainly textures with prominent aligned features. Also, it generates similar quality textures when compared against texture synthesis using feature maps with the advantage that our proposed method uses implicit edge information (since it is embedded in the wavelet coefficients) whereas feature maps rely explicitly on edge features. In previous work, the best patches are selected among all possible using a L2 norm on the RGB or grayscale pixel values of boundary zones. The L2 metric provides the raw pixel-to-pixel difference, disregarding relevant image structures - such as edges - that art relevant in the human visual system and therefore on synthesis of new textures.

This paper presents a model for studying the impact of individual agent characteristics in emergent groups, based on the evacuation efficiency as a result of local interactions. We used the physically based model of crowd simulation proposed by Helbing et al. (2000) and generalized it in order to deal with different individualities for agent and group behaviors. In addition, we present a framework to visualize the virtual agents and discuss the obtained results. A variety of simulations with different parameter sets shows significant impact on the evacuation scenario.
