Modern day mobile applications are resource intensive in nature. Even though being rich in terms of processing, battery, and storage capabilities, these latest mobile computing devices scare in these capabilities. Mobile cloud computing provides a solution to resources like processing, storage and battery restriction by a solution named computational offloading. Major computation tasks in applications like artificial intelligence, image recognition, gaming, face recognition, etc. can be offloaded from the computing device like mobile /tablets to the cloud or server. After the task gets processed in the cloud or server, the results are communicated back to the mobile device. In this paper, a study has been presented of the background, functionality, techniques which prevail at present regarding the computational offloading in mobile cloud computing. The paper has presented a study of techniques on the basis of profiling and decision engine components of computational of loading.

Robust signals detection algorithm based on cyclostationarity in impulsive noise

A robust method for detecting the communication signals impinging on an antenna with interference and non-Gaussian impulsive noise is introduced in this paper. Degradation of the conventional cyclic detector which based on max-output-SNR criterion in impulsive noise is shown both theoretically and experimentally. By fusing second-order cyclostationarity and fractional lower-order statistics, a type of cyclic fractional lower-order statistics is developed which is defined for exploiting cyclostationarity property. Then, a new robust type of detection algorithm is developed using the theory of optimal filtering based on max-output-SNR criterion and alpha-stable distribution, including the fractional lower-order cyclic matched filter, which is formulated for detecting the communication signals in the presence of interference and non-Gaussian alpha-stable distribution impulsive noise. It is shown that the new method is robust to Gaussian and non-Gaussian impulsive noises, and is immune to the interfering signals which occupy the same spectral band as that of the received signal. A Novel Robust Visible Light Positioning Based on Sparsity-Adaptive Compressed Sensing

The fingerprint-based visible light positioning (VLP) method offers high-precision indoor positioning with centimeter-level accuracy, making it well-suited for applications like robot navigation. However, the sensitivity of photodiodes (PDs) to natural light compromises the system's robustness. To address this challenge, we construct a robust received signal strength (RSS) database that leverages the properties of pulse width modulation (PWM) technology to minimize interference from natural light. This robust RSS database serves as the foundation for a novel, low-complexity, sparsity-adaptive compressed sensing (CS) algorithm, which enables accurate signal reconstruction without requiring prior knowledge of sparsity. Experimental results show that the proposed VLP system effectively mitigates the impact of natural light and maintains consistent positioning performance across varying natural lighting conditions. With a grid spacing of 20 cm, the proposed RSS database construction method achieves an average positioning error (APE) of 1.36 cm in VLP, marking a 75.54% reduction compared to the traditional RSS database construction method. Furthermore, the proposed VLP system maintains an APE of 2.15 cm even at a 40 cm grid spacing. This demonstrates that our system achieves excellent positioning accuracy while maintaining low computational and storage complexity. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Micro-expression which is the transient expression will be disclosed when people try to hide some kind of real inner emotions. Micro-expression changes so fast that few people detect its existence. As an effective behavioral clue, it is of great significance to understand the change of peoples true feelings. Based on this, image feature extraction in machine learning has made remarkable progress in the past two years. In order to improve the accuracy and practicability of micro-expression recognition, this paper deeply analyzed the practical micro-expression recognition method. Based on landmark detection. We construct a quantitative model and established a machine learning model of micro-expression judgment based on the comprehensive changes of eyes, mouth and eyebrows. This paper combine the feature unit and model application scene for judgement of micro-expression. This method reflect the design idea that the changes of face locality contributed to the overall micro-expression judgment, and helped to complete the high autonomous construction of the micro expression judgment model.

In this paper, we propose a Hybrid High-resolution and Non-local Feature Network (H2NF-Net) to segment brain tumor in multimodal MR images. Our H2NF-Net uses the single and cascaded HNF-Nets to segment different brain tumor sub-regions and combines the predictions together as the final segmentation. We trained and evaluated our model on the Multimodal Brain Tumor Segmentation Challenge (BraTS) 2020 dataset. The results on the test set show that the combination of the single and cascaded models achieved average Dice scores of 0.78751, 0.91290, and 0.85461, as well as Hausdorff distances (95%) of 26.57525, 4.18426, and 4.97162 for the enhancing tumor, whole tumor, and tumor core, respectively. Our method won the second place in the BraTS 2020 challenge segmentation task out of nearly 80 participants. © 2020, CC BY.

This paper investigates the formation stabilization control problem of a group of networked nonholonomic unicycle agents with a static leader. A distributed observer is presented for each agent to estimate the position and orientation of leader. A feedback controller is then constructed to make the agents form the desired geometric shape centered at the leader. The control protocol consists of the observer and the feedback controller. With this protocol, each agent computes the control signals only using its own state and its neighbors' information. Based on Lyapunov method and Barbalat lemma, stability analysis shows that all the unicycle agents globally asymptotically make into the desired shape centered at the position of leader, and that their orientations tend to the orientation of leader, provided that the communication graph has a spanning tree with at least one root agent knowing the information of leader. Finally, a numerical simulation is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control law.

In this paper, we report an efficient segmentation and grain boundary detection process using modern image processing operators like simple linear iterative clustering and skeletonization. Accurate phase segmentation is the major requirement for any phase identification and quantification operations. The proposed image processing methods have been experimented on the in-house generated 48 scanning electron microscopy (SEM) microstructures obtained from plain carbon steel samples containing 0.1, 0.22, 0.35 and 0.48 wt%C and have been subjected to both annealing and normalizing treatments. The microstructures for dataset have been captured in SEM using secondary electron mode over a wide range of magnification × 500–× 5000. The experimental results significantly validate the segmentation of ferrite and pearlite regions. Also, the grain boundary detection results appear to be plausibly effective in case of ferrite–ferrite and ferrite–pearlite boundaries. However, the grain boundary detection efficiency is found to be relatively poor in case of pearlite–pearlite boundary. The overall performance of the proposed image processing technique in context of ferrite–pearlite steel SEM images shows promising results in all circumstances of compositional range, heat treatment and magnification. © 2019, The Institution of Engineers (India).

—Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is an important bio-engineering tool to determine the metabolic concentrations, molecule structures and so on. The data acquisition time, however, is very long in multi-dimensional NMR. To accelerate data acquisition, non-uniformly sampling is an effective way but may encounter severe spectral distortions and unfaithful quantitative measures when the acceleration factor is high. By modelling the acquired signal as the superimposed exponentials, we proposed a virtual peak (VIP) approach to self-adapt the prior spectral information, such as the resonance frequency and peak lineshape, and then feed these information into the reconstruction. The proposed method is further implemented with cloud computing to facilitate online, open, and easy access. Results on simulated and experimental data demonstrate that, compared with the low-rank Hankel matrix method, the new approach reconstructs high-fidelity NMR spectra from highly undersampled data and achieves more accurate quantification. The maximum quantitative errors of distances between nuclear pairs and concentrations of metabolites in mixtures have been reduced by 61.1% and 57.7%, respectively. Copyright © 2021, The Authors.
