Biogeography-based optimization for motif discovery problem

The computational discovery of DNA motifs for previously uncharacterized transcription factors in groups of co-regulated genes is a well-studied problem with a great deal of practical relevance to the biologist. As a NP-hard Problem, evolutionary computation approaches are gaining more attractions from articial intelligence communities in recent years. In this paper, we applied a Biogeography-Based Optimization (BBO) approach, a relatively new evolutionary global optimization technique based on the science of biogeography, to predict motifs from DNA sequences. The migration and mutation operators of BBO were modied to meet motif discovery requirements. Furthermore, an integrated mechanism for the generation of initial populations was designed. The proposed algorithm can gain meaningful motifs with a fast convergence rate. The experimental results on two commonly used datasets demonstrated the validity and effectiveness for motif discovery problems. © 2013 Binary Information Press.

A fast inverted index based algorithm is introduced for multi-class action recognition. At first, we compute the shape-motion features of the automatically localized actor. Secondly, a binary state tree is built by hierarchically clustering of the extracted features, and the action states are the cluster centers. Then videos are represented as sequences of states by searching the state binary tree. With the labeled state sequences, we create the inverted index tables. During testing, the state and the state transition scores are computed by querying the inverted index tables. With the learned weight, we compute an action recognition score vector. The recognized action class is the index of the maximum score element. Our key contribution is that we propose a fast inverted index based multi-class action recognition approach. Experiments on several challenging data sets confirm the performance of this approach.

This paper discusses the use of Self-organizing map (SOM) for color-space image compression. Two types of compressions, i.e., color and space compressions, are carried out by SOM. The feasibility of the proposed compression method is verified by computer simulation. By applying both color and space compression, higher compression is achieved. In addition, the proposed compression system is implemented in hardware using a hardware SOM. The system is designed by using VHDL, and operation of the system is verified by FPGA implementation. Experimental result shows that the maximum clock frequency of this system is 26 MHz, and a single image is compressed with 25.2 ms, which yields 39.7 fps.

Sc 2 O 3 doped W nano-powder is believed to play a dominant role for improving emission capabilities of the high current density thermionic cathodes. In this study a novel nano-particle synthesis approach was adopted in order to precisely control the particle parameters. The particle characteristics and sintering behavior has been analyzed using SEM, TEM, EDS, XRD and XPS. Uniform grain size with average particle diameter~50 nm, spherical morphology, uniform phase and homogeneous mixing of Sc 2 O 3 doped W nano-powder was obtain which will enhance the emission current density, emission uniformity and life of the cathode.

Most multicast data origin authentication schemes work under the fixed parameters without taking the problem of changeable network environment into ***,the network conditions will obviously influence the efficiency of a protocol such as the time delay and the overhead considering the packet loss rate or something *** adjusting the parameters adaptively to achieve the ideal state with the dynamic network is *** achieve a high authentication rate and adapt to the changeable and unstable network environment,we proposed a multicast data origin authentication protocol which is adaptive depending on the packet error rates as well as the time delay,and is robust against the packet loss and *** model can estimate a more appropriate packet error rate and make the time delay lower according to the feedback values got from the receivers using the Markov chain so that it can be ***’s more,the IDA (Information Dispersal Algorithm) and the Merkle HASH tree are also combined to resist the packet loss or *** strategy is especially efficient in terms of not only the adaptation of dynamic network but also the shortcut of overhead and delay,because the reliable intelligent algorithm is included in and only the necessary parts are involved in to authenticate.

The computational discovery of DNA motifs for previously uncharacterized transcription factors in groups of co-regulated genes is a well-studied problem with a great deal of practical relevance to the biologist. In this paper, we apply an improved hybridization of Biogeography-Based Optimization (BBO) with differential evolution (DE) approach, namely BBO/DE, to predict motifs from DNA sequences. BBO/DE combines the exploitation of BBO with the exploration of DE effectively, and hence it can generate the promising candidate solutions. And the migration operators of BBO are modified based on number of iteration to meet motif discovery requirements. Statistical comparisons with some typical existing approaches on three commonly used datasets are provided, which demonstrates the validity and effectiveness of the proposed improved hybrid algorithm. © 2013 ISSN 1881-803X.

Studying genomes continues to be beneficial for evolutionary discover, and prognosticating/diagnosing many genetic disorders and diseases. Most of the these studies have used systems that view the DNA in a linear structure, but having this information is only a small part of fully understanding what they can reveal. Visualizing genomes in real time 3D can give researchers more insight, but this is fraught with hardware limitations. Each element contains vast amounts of information that cannot be processed at once. However, by using a game engine and sophisticated video game visualization techniques, we were able to construct a multi-platform real-time 3D genome viewer.

Video real-time communication of Intelligent terminal is the core technology for video telephone, telemedicine and tele-education. By discussing the video communication hardware platform of both IP carmer and STB and software of IP crammer based on RTSP protocol on server client, an adaptor stream transmission method for client is proposed. The real-time video communication between digital device and IP is achieved. Not only does it support both standard RTSP protocol and Microsoft RTSP protocol in same time, but also solves the communication problems between video devices and PC. It will be widely used in oriented 3C interactive applications. © 2012 IEEE.

High current density dispenser cathode is critical need for used in high power terahertz devices. Recently scandate cathode using nanoparticle offers very high current density more than 100 A/cm2. Fabrication of this kind of cathode is challenging issue due to its nano dimension of the particle size. One of the critical parameter is surface roughness of the emission surface. We develop dispenser cathode using tungsten nano-particle of average particle diameter 50 nm, spherical morphology and uniform phase. In this paper we explain the effect of surface roughness on the emission current density of the dispenser cathode. © 2012 IEEE.
