Constraint programming (CP) systems are useful for solving real-life combinatorial problems, such as scheduling, planning, rostering and routing problems. The design of modern CP systems has evolved from a monolithic to an open design in order to meet the increasing demand for application-specific customization. It is widely accepted that a CP system needs to balance various design factors such as efficiency versus customizability and flexibility versus maintenance. This paper captures our experience with using different software engineering approaches in the development of constraint programming systems. These approaches allow us to systematically investigate the different factors that affect the performance of a CP system. In particular we review the application of reuse techniques, such as toolkits, framework and patterns, to the design and implementation of a finite-domain CP system.

The high power amplifier with class AB operation has a large memory effect and high non-linearity. The usual AM-AM and AM-PM data cannot properly describe the large distortion characteristics. We present an accurate block model of the amplifier based on the two tone transfer characteristics. The measurement setup of the two tone transfer characteristics are described. The measured and modeled amplitude and phase data of the two tone harmonics versus input power level are presented. This behavioral model will be very useful for the design of a predistortion linearizer of high power amplifiers and for the nonlinear system simulation with a large memory effect. © 2000 IEEE.

We present a broadband adaptive control method for IMT-2000 band multi-carrier power amplifiers adopting feedforward linearization. We have analyzed and implemented an error cancellation detection method employing a frequency hopping pilot and IF synchronous sampling correlator with DSP controller. An adaptive delta-modulated power gradient algorithm is used to adjust the signal and error cancellation loop control parameters. A 2.15 GHz feedforward power amplifier with digital controller is implemented. Band test results show that it covers over a 90 MHz band with more than 50 dBc of IMD at 5 MHz offset frequency for an 8.3 MHz WCDMA signal. The adaptation result shows very fast convergence.

His other tasks have included the command and control for the AEGIS shipbuilding program systems engineering for the 21st Century Surface Combatant combat system survivability and the development of NATO standardization agreements for naval ordnance. He was previously a Senior Engineer with San Diego Gas & Electric with responsibility for its energy application and lighting programs. Prior to joining SDG&E Mr. Leite was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy where he served in operations and engineering assignments. Following active duty he accepted a Naval Reserve commission and has retired with the rank of Captain. His assignments included command operational and engineering tours. Mr. Leite has also served as an expert witness in admiralty and engineering matters. He is a gradate of the University of California Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from National University in San Diego. Mr. Leite is a Registered Professional Engineer in the States of California and Minnesota. Mr. Leite is a member of ASNE ASCE MORS the Illuminating Engineering Society and the U.S. Naval institute. Dennis Roy Mensh:is a Senior Engineer with PRC Inc. a division of Litton Industries in Crystal City VA where he supports modeling and simulation tasking for combat systems. He received BS and MS degrees in applied Physics from Lopola College in Baltimore MD and the American University in Washington DC. He has also completed the course work towards a Ph.D. degree in computer science specializing in the fields of Operations Reseurch Anabsis Systems Analysis and Computer Modeling and Simulation. Previously he was employed at the White Oak Laboratory of the Naval Surface Warfare Carter in Silver Spring MD where he worked in the areas of naval sensor and weapon system analysis

This paper defines, develops and examines a set of generic analysis tools that can be applied to Models and Simulations at the Systems engineering level of fidelity. The tools examine the performance and effectiveness of Sensors;Weapons;and Battle Management, Command, Control, Communications, computers, and Intelligence ((BMCI)-I-4) systems and equipment. The Measures of Performance (MOPs), Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) and Measures of Force Effectiveness (MOFEs) were extracted from the Modular Command and Control Structure Paradigm which was developed at the Naval Postgraduate school. The paradigm provides for the development of evaluation criteria (MOPs, MOEs, and MOFEs) in a framework that ensures the traceability of system performance and effectiveness to the system operational requirements as specified in the Operational Requirements Document (ORD). Also, the analysis tools provide insight and valid estimates of numerical measures of the defined system functionality threads, which represent the system's operational requirements as specified in the ORD. The tools are directly transferrable and applicable to test and evaluation exercise events which are conducted in support of the development and acquisition of systems and equipment. Once the levels of system performance have been defined, the Paradigm generates a quantitative database that becomes a useful tool in system tradeoffs and selection. Once the alternative system suites have been defined, the suites can be analyzed in terms of system functionality threads and their corresponding performance capabilities versus cost.

Ship design is often multidisciplinary involving several design elements with various types of objectives and constraints (O/C) some easily described as mathematical formulas, others better modeled as descriptive assertions. This paper describes a method based on fuzzy functions and an integrated performance index to model O/C using descriptive assertions to be used with mathematical formulas in optimization. Another issue addressed in this paper concerns the coordination of design elements when sequentially coupled, that is, when one leads the other and the performance of the follower depends greatly on the design of the leader. Based on neuro-fuzzy techniques, the method described here coordinates and optimizes sequentially coupled elements. The two methods are applied to machinery arrangement (MA) and pipe routing (PR). Preliminary models for optimization of MA and PR are described considering convenience, producibility: engine room size, interference and location as factors in the O/C set. Some test results from MA/PR applications are presented and discussed. The methods are generic and can be extended to other elements in ship design. They are mutually independent and may be used separately Two advantages of their use are an improvement in overall performance and a reduction in the need for redesign of elements.

Meeting the 21st century with SMART mission flexibility

He is currently manager quality programs at RGE Engineering Service Company where he provides technical support to the ATC Program in the area of combat system modularity design. lhe is a member of ASNE and the Surface Navy Association. Larry Olmstead:received his B.L.S. degree in mathematics and computer scienc from Mary Washington College in 1982 and his M.S. degree in system management from the University of Southern California in 1986. He chaired the C'I Modular Implementation Wroking Group (MIWG) from its inception in September 1993 to December 1996 as a combat system engineer in the PEO CLA Engineering management Office (Code PMS307). He is currently employed at Science Application International Corporation.

A revolution is underway in the design, production and installation of the Navy/Marine Corps team's command, control, communications, computers and intelligence ((CI)-I-4) vision and strategies, which is significantly reducing costs, and dramatically improving the battle readiness of tomorrow's forward deployers. A strong emphasis on research and development has enabled the design, development and installation of the Shipboard Modular Arrangement Reconfiguration Technology (SMART) systems in ships. SMART is a methodology for installing equipment in shipboard spaces that will provide the fleet with enhanced mission flexibility. The heart of this technology is a track rail system, similar to that used by the aircraft industry, which enables equipment to be bolted to the deck, bulkheads or overhead, and meets all shipboard shock and vibration requirements. The fleet can reconfigure designated spaces to receive new systems, install equipment upgrades, position cross-decked systems, or rearrange work areas with minimal industrial work (welding, grinding, lagging, painting, etc.), and maximum cost savings. Key (CI)-I-4 spaces such as Tactical Flag Command Center (TFCC), Joint Operations Center (JOC), Communication Centers, etc., can be reconfigured as required. Thereby, new technology insertion can enable rapid deployment of state-of-the-art technologies much faster than the standard method of welding foundations in place to support various equipment installations. The SMART system includes a foundation track system, modular-connectorized power and lighting, and modular workstations.

Bamberger:was born on January 30 1965 in Buenos Aires Argentina. He received his B.E.E and PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1986 and 1990 respectively. Currently Dr. Bamberger is an assistant professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Washington State University. Dr. Bamberger's research program is focused on the design implementation and application of multidimensional multirate filter banks subband image and video compression analysis of nonstationary data and application of digital signal processing techniques in the design of analog and mixed-mode integrated circuits. Dr. Bamberger is the founder and director of the Signal Processing Instructional Facility (SPIF Lab) at Washington State University. The SPIF Lab features interactive multimedia-based tools for teaching concepts related to linear systems theory. Dr. Bamberger is active in developing multimedia-based instructional laboratories for a variety of other topics as well. In addition to his teaching and research programs Dr. Bamberger is an associate editor for theIEEE Transactions on Signal Processingand a member of the editorial board forComputer Applications in Engineering Education. Dr. Bamberger is also advisor to the WSU Student Branch of the IEEE and assistant director of the WSU Cougar Marching Band. Dr. Bamberger is a member of Phi Eta Sigma Eta Kappa Nu Tau Beta Pi and Kappa Kappa Psi.

The Signal Processing Instructional Facility (SPIF Lab) is an experiment in using in interactive multimedia for teaching concepts related to linear systems theory and signal processing. The goals of the SPIF lab are to augment, enhance, and interconnect sophomore, junior, and senior level courses with the common thread of linear systems and transforms by unifying the experimentation medium. In this fashion, physical phenomenon is returned to the forefront of engineering education. The laboratory features powerful Mathematica Notebooks (a form of hypertext) and interactive applications that use dedicated DSP microprocessors.

作者： MALKOFF, DB MOY, MC WILLIAMS, HL Dr. Donald B. Malkoff majored in physics as an undergraduate at Harvard University. He received an M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1960. This was followed by an internship and residency in neurology at University Hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan. He spent several years at the National Institutes of Health engaged in gerontology research has practiced and taught clinical neurology and in 1983 received an M.S. degree in computer science at the University of California San Diego. Currently Dr. Malkoff is employed by the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center in San Diego California where he is senior investigator in a human factor/computer display-and-control project involving the DDG-51 gas turbine propulsion unit. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology the Society for Neuroscience the American Association for Artificial Intelligence and the Association for Computing Machinery. Dr. Malkoff is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology has taught computer science at UCSD and published in several research areas including magnetoencephalography and electron microscopy. His basic interests are in the areas of artificial intelligence and learning expert systems particularly as they apply to the problems of fault-detection and control. Dr. Melvyn C. Moy received his undergraduate training in mathematics and chemistry at the University of Texas Austin. He studied experimental psychology at the University of Wisconsin Madison receiving his M.S. in 1970 and Ph.D. in 1972. He served as an assistant professor at the University of South Dakota where he taught experimental design and methodology for a year before joining the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center in 1973. The ship fire main has undergone considerable development throughout the past 2,000 years, resulting in a system that is critical both for normal ship function and for ship survivability in emergencies. Because of its complexity, the modern firemain system is highly vulnerable to malfunction and to damage during combat. Firemain fault detection and fault recovery are currently conducted manually by damage control teams. The advantages and disadvantages of this method are discussed, and alternative methods of fault detection and recovery are explored. An interactive computer program is introduced which uses central control over remotely situated valves to facilitate fault detection and recovery, significantly reducing recovery-time and manpower requirements. These reductions may result in savings of lives, ship systems, and ships themselves. The computer program is based upon an algorithm which is, in effect, a prescription that can be followed manually by the operator or be completely automated. The color graphic display which is used for monitoring can also be utilized for the training of damage control operators or for the evaluation of other algorithms for firemain control. Alternative firemain hardware and configurations could lead to even more efficient methods of fault detection and recovery as well as improved firemain water supply management in general.
