Conventional bio-probes are produced on a silicon substrate, they are not only fragile but unable to dispose according to the profile of human body in a large area manner, and thus the contact resistance between probe and skin may be increased. Besides, the signal processing devices are required to improve both S/N ratio and impedance matching problems. This paper proposes a novel remote human health monitor and an active RFId tag with replaceable non-frangible probes and thin-film-transistor (TFT) amplifiers. The probes are made of bio-degradable polymer (photo resist) and covered with bio-compatible TiN. In addition, we use two pieces of double sides conducting tapes to connect both TFT amplifiers and probe modules. Thus the probe module can be replaced easily by peeling the used probe module away from the double sides conducting tapes to supply a new one. Since the tag is a flexible plastic substrate, e, g. PT, PET and PI, so the probes are easier to deploy and conform to the human body profile. In addition, the signal can be amplified by the TFT amplifier nearby to improve both S/N ratio and impedance matching. Thus the human health conditions can be remotely monitored by measuring various acupuncture impedances via the active RFId tag. The active RFId monitoring range is 15m by using 2.45 GHz ISM band, the probe resistance and parasitic capacitance are as 2735 Ω and 60.7 pf, respectively. Since the typical human acupuncture point resistance is about 40-120KΩ, thus the proposed device and system can be applied.

The target of the paper is a spherical robot using Omni wheels to drive a spherical wheel, and its position control based on the cascade sliding model control (CSMC) has been studied. The structure of the CSMC is cascade combination of states of this dynamic model and a series of sliding surfaces. Because the CSMC is easy to result in a constant speed of spherical wheel, a constant without any switching cascade sliding model control, denoted as CSMCl, has been proposed to solve the undesired constant speed problem. The positive constant coefficients without any switching can release the body convergent rate, so the constant speed problem can be avoided to achieve the position control. © 2012 IEEE.

Effect of Anodic Current density on Characteristics and Low Temperature IR Emissivity of Ceramic Coating on Aluminium 6061 Alloy Prepared by Microarc Oxidation

High emitter MAO ceramic coatings were fabricated on the Al 6061 alloy, using different bipolar anodic current densities, in an alkali silicate electrolyte. We found that, as the current density increased from 10.94 A/dm 2 to 43.75 A/dm 2 , the layer thickness was increased from 10.9 μ m to 18.5 μ m, the surface roughness was increased from 0.79 μ m to 1.27 μ m, the area ratio of volcano-like microstructure was increased from 55.6% to 59.6%, the volcano-like density was decreased from 2620 mm −2 to 1420 mm −2 , and the γ -alumina phase was decreased from 66.6 wt.% to 26.2 wt.%, while the α -alumina phase was increased from 3.9 wt.% to 27.6 wt.%. The sillimanite and cristobalite phases were around 20 wt.% and 9 wt.%, respectively, for 10.94 A/dm 2 and approximately constant around 40 wt.% and less than 5 wt.%, respectively, for the anodic current densities 14.58, 21.88, and 43.75 A/dm 2 . The ceramic surface roughness and thickness slightly enhanced the IR emissivity in the semitransparent region (4.0–7.8 μ m), while the existing phases contributed together to raise the emissivity in the opaque region (8.6–16.0 μ m) to higher but approximately the same emissivities.

This research applied both the traditional and the fuzzy control methods for mobile satellite antenna tracking system design. Firstly, the antenna tracking and the stabilization loops were designed according to the traditional bandwidth and phase margin requirements. However, the performances would be degraded if the tacking loop gain is reduced due to parameter variations. On the other hand a Pd-type fuzzy controller was also applied for tracking loop design. It can be seen that the system performances obtained by the fuzzy controller were better for both low and high antenna tracking loop gains, and the tracking loop gain parameter variations effect can be reduced. © 2011 IEEE.

This study demonstrated a newly type technology of a wafer level packaging method for light emitting diode (LEd) with aspheric lens and microlens array using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology and transfer molding process. The novel packaging structure includes two components: the silicon-based packaging substrate which is formed with arrayed reflector depression and through-hole interconnects by bulk micromachining and the optical encapsulation with lens configuration that formed by transfer molding in wafer level. By this pattern transfer process, the precise alignment between lens configuration and the reflector of silicon substrate can be achieved and batch process can be realized to reduce the costs. Beside, the packaging element can be used more applications. In the study, the pattern transfer of various lens profiles was also accomplished successfully by using silicone gel as lens mold. The brightness of the packaging elements with single aspheric lens profile and high fill factor microlens array can be increased by 26% and 16%, respectively, in comparison to the case of optical encapsulation with smooth curved surface. Furthermore, the light radiation uniformity was improved effectively through 100% fill factor microlens array. Therefore, the structure can satisfy the requirements of wafer level LEd packaging and improve the heat dissipation and light extraction efficiency. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper mainly outlines the model of the invented spherical robot using Omni wheels to drive a spherical wheel. The dynamical model is derived based on Euler Lagrange approach. Therefore, based on the derived model, the variable structure control (VSC) is presented in which the sliding mode control (SMC) is adopted to achieve a constant speed at a vertical balance altitude. Simulations of the proposed control algorithm have been conducted based on two pre-determined sliding surfaces with adjustable parameters to discuss the effective time to enter the sliding surface and the convergence.

The paper employed some independently developed sensors based on the Octopus X platform to build a Zigbee-based Sensor Networks. Also, we implemented a Location-aware living environment by deploying the developed Zigee-based sensor. Besides, through the created window console interface, the sensed data can be transmitted and transformed to the database for further utilized. Moreover, by the devised Web interface, the update request data can be observed efficiently and responded effectively to any situations. © 2010 IEEE.

For the continuous infinite horizon time-invariant linear quadratic regulator problem (LQR), in the paper, the optimal state feedback controller based on the estimated state of the observer can be decoupled by the proposed approach which resulting one continuous time algebraic Riccati equation (CARE) for the controller design and one matrix equality equation (MEE) for the observer design. A coupling term related the CARE of the controller is found to be existed in the MEE of the observer. Unlike the separate principle to design the controller and observer separately without any coupling term, the design of the observer should consider the coupling term related to the CARE of the controller. The coupling problem between the controller and the observer usually exists in the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, and it is the main problem to be solved. The two-stage scheme is popular in the LMI approach, and the proposed method is similar to it, but adopting equality instead of inequality. © 2010 IEEE.

The worldwide digital Signage market has been getting increasingly popular in recent years. Nevertheless, for service providers, the digital Signage business is still not easy to manage and time-consuming to operate. In this paper, based on the GPS and wireless infrastructure, we present a mobile location-aware digital signage system (LdSS). Through the centralized system architecture, the applications for the digital Signage can be expanded to various advertising vehicles including buses and other mobile advertising vehicles. Also, we present an advertisement recommendation algorithm, by which the advertisement can be broadcasted in the right markets more effectively. Evidenced by simulated experiments and analysis, compared with traditional region trigger advertising, sequential advertising and random advertising, our advertisement recommendation algorithm can effectively reach to the key target audiences in planned regions, while show excellent ability to differentiate markets in unplanned regions reaching to the target consumer groups as well. © 2010 IEEE.
