Development of Eggshell Waste Incorporated with a Porous Host as a Humidity Adsorption material

The duck eggshell waste was developed to the novel desiccant that is friendly to human and *** calcium oxide(Ca O)and calcium chloride(CaCl_(2))as the calcium-based desiccants were prepared from eggshell *** Ca O desiccant derived from the eggshell waste sintering at 1300℃,while the CaCl_(2)desiccant was extracted from eggshell waste with the hydrochloric(HCl)solution at difierent concentrations from 5 to 30 wt%.The yield percentage of CaCl_(2)desiccant increased with increasing the HCl concentration to 25 wt%.The humidity adsorption behavior were investigated in the range of 75%-5%relative *** results show the CaCl_(2)desiccant has the highest hydration *** porous host from the kaolin was sintered at different temperatures from 200 to 1000℃and incorporated with 30%w/v concentrations of CaCl_(2).The physical properties and the humid-adsorption capacity of all porous host conditions were *** porous host at sintering temperature 800℃has the highest specific surface ***,the porous host at sintering temperature 800℃with the 30%w/v concentration of CaCl_(2)desiccant has the highest humid-adsorption capacity.

In accordance with Cybersecurity statistics, a total average of 2,200 cyber-attacks occur per day. Cross-site Scripting (XSS) is one of the most notable weaknesses in web security. It belongs to the injection category. For an attacker to gain access to the user's systems the user has to interact with malicious links. This usually occurs when the victim visits any link from a website that may contain XSS payload or when visiting a vulnerable website that may trick the victim into sharing cookies resulting in a compromise of the security in the web application. In this regard, we concentrated on creating an advanced technique for identifying cross-site scripting attacks using the Stacking Ensemble Learning method is proposed. The model is implemented with a combination of different classifiers, namely Random Forest, Gaussian Naïve Bayes, SVM, and KNN, where Logistic Regression is used as the meta-model. This model has achieved a remarkable 99% accuracy rate while maintaining a high level of precision and Recall. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Seismic performance enhancement of RC framed structures through retrofitting and strengthening: an experimental and numerical study

This study investigates the seismic performance of a two-bay, two-story reinforced concrete (RC) framed structure and proposes a retrofitting strategy by removing a column and strengthening the adjoining beams and columns using RC jacketing and post-tensioning tendons. Experimental testing and numerical simulations are conducted to assess the effectiveness of the retrofitting method. The experimental results indicate that the retrofitted RC frame exhibits enhanced lateral stiffness and shear force resistance, resulting in reduced shear deformation compared to the existing RC frame. However, the two frames’ ductility and energy dissipation characteristics remain similar. Notably, failure in the retrofitted frame occurs primarily in the second-story beam–column joint, whereas the original frame experiences failure at the ground-floor beam–column joints. Furthermore, a numerical macro-based finite element model is developed in OpenSEES, validated with experimental data, and utilized for a parametric study. The numerical findings suggest that retrofitting is suitable when the axial compression ratio of the second story’s side columns is kept below 0.52. Attention should be given to the size of the retrofitted columns to avoid compromising the upper floor’s structural integrity, as the retrofitting process may result in a softer upper floor. It is essential to regulate the dimensions of retrofitted columns and ensure that the elastic lateral stiffness of the retrofitted story is greater than the upper story. In this case, a 350 and 300 mm column depth had acceptable performance. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the seismic performance of retrofitted RC-framed structures. The findings emphasize the importance of appropriate column sizing and maintaining adequate lateral stiffness to enhance retrofitted buildings’ structural integrity and seismic resistance. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

As academic demands increase, school-aged children and adolescents often carry heavy backpacks, impacting their posture and musculoskeletal health. This study examines how backpack carriage affects children's gait, focusing on the influence of waist strap design. In this study, twelve children underwent biomechanical tests while walking and running with and without backpacks, with weights adjusted based on daily habits. Diabetic foot is a common complication in patients with diabetes, which can lead to plantar ulcers and even necessitate amputation. This study aims to utilize finite element analysis to simulate the offloading effects of 3D-printed insoles with various structures on plantar pressure and to explore the use of machine learning in providing optimal plantar pressure offloading solutions for patients with diabetic foot. The results demonstrated that negative Poisson's ratio structured insoles were more effective in reducing plantar pressure (reducing pressure by an average of 39.2%) than barefoot and conventional structures. This was achieved through a unique lateral contraction deformation, which increased the contact area with the foot. The pressure-reducing effect of insoles may be weight-related, suggesting that heavier patients may require stiffer insoles. However, the machine learning algorithm demonstrated a poor fit (only 60.75%) in the task of recommending suitable insoles. In conclusion, this study demonstrated the significant effect of negative Poisson's ratio structured insoles in reducing plantar pressure in diabetic patients, providing new ideas for diabetic foot protection. With the development of data analysis technology in the future, the feasibility and application of personalised insole design will be more promising. © The Author(s), 2024.

Insight into Janus V2COS as anode material of high-performance alkali metal ion battery: Diffusion barrier, recyclability, specific capacity, and open-circuit voltage

Transition metal carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides, known as MXenes, exhibit exceptional conductivity, stability, and large specific surface area, rendering them promising candidates for anode materials in rechargeable batteries. Herein, we investigate the electrochemical characteristics of the Janus MXene V2COS monolayer, as an anode material of alkali metal ion batteries by using first-principles calculations. The phonon band structure and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations confirm the stability of the Janus V2COS monolayer. The mechanical and electrical properties of the Janus V2COS monolayer are explored and proved to have good mechanical stability and electrical conductivity. The surface of the Janus V2COS monolayer demonstrates the facile adsorption of alkali metal ions and low diffusion barriers. As an anode material, the recyclability of the Janus V2COS has been verified in the ion intercalation/deintercalation processes. Furthermore, the theoretical specific capacities and the open-circuit voltages of the Janus V2COS monolayer are calculated to be 165.54mAh/g and 2.62 V for Li, 662.18mAh/g and 0.76 V for Na, and 294.43mAh/g and 0.4 V for K, respectively. It presents that the Janus V2COS monolayer is a potential anode material of sodium-ion batteries and potassium-ion batteries.

Multifractal constitutive relations for ideal isotropic material structures in the framework of Multifractal Theory of Motion are build assuming that any material structures are assimilated to the multifractals and that multifractal scalar potentials, specified by means of Madelung type scenario motion functions as a multifractal elastic potential.
