ANbO3 – BaTiO3 (A = K, Na, or K0.5Na0.5) system ceramics were prepared using a conventional sintering method, and their dielectric properties were investigated. It was found that the dielectric constant of KNbO3-BaTiO3 system ceramics did not strongly depend on temperature between 20 and 400 °C, making them useful for capacitor application. However, the dielectric constant of KNbO3-BaTiO3 system ceramics was low. The high dielectric constant is attributable to a large area of interfaces between KN and BT grains. Ceramics sintered by spark plasma sintering (SPS) are expected to suppress a grain growth, increasing area of the interfacial layer. In this study, SPS method was employed to achieve a large area of the interfaces and to see how the dielectric properties change with the interfacial structure. The structure was controlled by changing sintering temperatures and time of the spark plasma sintering. As a result, X-ray diffraction patterns showed that perovskite single phase and their relative densities were greater than 97%. By contrast, the dielectric constant was decreased.

KBaTiNbO6, i.e., 0.5BT-0.5KN complete solid solution ceramics and barium titanate (BaTiO3, BT) - potassium niobate (KNbO3, KN) system (0.5BT-0.5KN) ceramics with various microstructures were prepared by conventional sintering method and two-step sintering method. The 0.5BT-0.5KN with diffusion of BT and KN completely were paraelectrics. Their microstructures were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). KBaTiNbO6 at room temperature was assigned to cubic Pm3m symmetry. For the 0.5BT-0.5KN patially solid solution system ceramics, the control of the interface area between two phases was important to enhance piezoelectric property. Their piezoelectric property was measured, and the apparent piezoelectric constant d33* increased with increasing interface area.

The finite element analysis (FEA) software Ansys was employed to study the stress state of the dies of both plane and non-plane parting face structures with uniform interference and the die of plane parting face structure with non-uniform interference. Considering the symmetry of the die, a half gear tooth model of the two-ring assembled die with 2.5 GPa inner pressure was constructed. Four paths were defined to investigate the stress state at the bottom comer of the die where stress concentration was serious. FEA results show that the change of parting face from non-plane to plane can greatly reduce the stress at the teeth tips of the die so that the tip fracture is avoided. The interference structure of the die is the most important influencing factor for the stress concentration at the bottom comer. When non-uniform interference is adopted the first principal stress at the comer on the defined paths of the die is much lower than that with uniform interference. The bottom hole radius is another important influencing factor for the comer stress concentration. The first principal stress at the comer of the plane parting face die with non-uniform interference is reduced from 2.3 to 1.9 GPa when the hole radius increases from 12.5 to 16.0 mm. The optimization of the die structure increases the life of the die from 100 to 6 000 hits.

the flux coating of D600R, a hardfac-ing shielded metal-arc welding electrode, was replaced by marble of nanoscale sizes for possible enhanced electrode characteristics. The mi-croscale marble was substituted with different proportions of nanoscale marble particles. An arc characteris-tics analyzer was used to measure the welding current, arc voltage, and short-drcuiting characteristics of the electrode under various welding conditions. Hardness and wear resistance properties of the weld deposit were characterized. The results show that the smaller marble particle sizes in the flux coating produced lower short-Circuiting voltage, lower short-fircuiting current, and shorter short-circuiting time. A significantly improved arc stability resulted in better welding characteristics of the electrode. The nanoscale marble particles in flux coating produced greater metal deposition efficiency, as well as increased hardness and wear resistance of the deposit.
