Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown on the surface of carbon fiber using thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique. Ni is used as a catalyst. The coating of catalyst on the surface of carbon fiber was done by electroless dip coating technique. By performing structural characterization of CNT coated carbon fiber using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the length and diameter of CNTs were measured and found to be ∼9000 nm and ∼40 nm respectively. Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) of as received and CNT coated carbon fiber samples in nitrogen atmosphere indicates that the CNT coated carbon fiber samples are thermally more stable. The improvement in storage modulus in CNT coated carbon fiber samples is observed in dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).

A prosthesis material using calcium phosphates-poly(ether etherketone)thermoplastic nano composite was developed. The nanosized calcium phosphates were synthesized by sol-gel technique. The biocompatibility test was carried out by SBF-conditioned study using freshly prepared simulated body fluid (SBF) at a temperature of 25-40°C and pH of 6.5-7.7. XRD was used to see the crystallinity and composition. The morphology and component distribution were performed by OM, SEM, AFM, etc. The functional groups present in composite materials were evaluated by FTIR. The growth study of SBF crystal was carried out by OM and XRD. The porous microsphere of HAp-PEEK composite was observed in SEM.

The properties of the dielectric strongly influence the performance of organic electronic devices. We see the influence of the roughness on the dielectric, used in the fabrication of Organic thin film transistor (OTFT).OTFTs are particularly interesting as their fabrication processes are much less complex compared with conventional Si technology, which involves high-temperature and high-vacuum deposition processes and sophisticated photolithographic patterning methods. In general, low-temperature deposition and solution processing can replace the more complicated processes involved in conventional Si technology. The achieved hole mobilities went up to 5 cm 2/Vs in the case of pentacene. Major influences on the mobility have been the purification, deposition conditions of the organic semiconductor and the properties of the dielectric surface. Variations in the surface chemistry cause large changes in the mobility of the OTFT. In addition, several publications mention a reduction in mobility due to increased surface roughness. In this paper, we show experimental results that quantify the influence of the roughness of the dielectric on the mobility. Copyright The Electrochemical Society.

The high molecular weight (MW) polystyrene (PS) particles were synthesized by benzoyl peroxide, sodium lauryl sulfate and styrene. The particle size varies from micro to nanometer. The microscopy analysis (TEM/AFM) shows the spherical shape of PS particles. The effects of particle size, which varies from micro to nanometer scale glass transition temperature (Tg), and mechanical properties were studied. DSC show that the nanoparticles of PS have higher Tg compared to the microsized PS. The elastic modulus of individual nanospherical PS particles is computed from 'force-distance' mapping curves of AFM.
