Mineral water production for health therapy based on nanomaterial filters

Clean water is one of the most important needs, including for daily drinking, because 70-80% of the human body is water. There are many benefits of consuming adequate drinking water for health. Consuming clean and healthy water is one of the keys to getting a healthy body, because water also plays a role in oxygen transportation throughout the body. To produce clean and healthy water, technological innovations are needed, one of which is to use a nano filter-based device which can reduce solutes, colour, hardness and high metal ions by up to 70%. The purpose of this research is to produce drinking water that is healthy and can be useful in health therapy with nano material-based filters. The resulting water product is drinking water with a pH of 8+. This nano material-based tool has been tested using 3 water samples, namely well water, PDAM water and river water. The results showed that well water with a pH of 8.71, TDS (total dissolved solid) 282 and a test of 4 heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Zn and Cr) were below the threshold and the results after filtering were the most ideal among other water samples and recommended for consumption that can afford for health therapy.

There are many uses of natural ingredients to find out their potential in overcoming Coronavirus Disease 2019. One of the plants that is often used to treat various diseases, including SARS-Cov2 infection is turmeric. Turmeric contains Tetrahydroxycurcumin compounds. The aim of this research was to study the potential of Tetrahydroxycurcumin in preventing infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The results showed that Tetrahydroxicurcumin has the potential to inhibit Tyrosine protein kinase ABL1, which is a protein that plays a role in the preparation of the cytoskeleton during viral infection. The binding affinity of Tetrahydroxycurcumin for this protein is -8.4 kcal/mol.

Core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe) are the terminal explosions of massive stars. While most massive stars explode as iron-core-collapse supernovae (FeCCSNe), slightly less massive stars explode as electron-capture supernovae (ECSNe), shaping the low-mass end of CCSNe. ECSNe was proposed ∼ 40 years ago and first-principles simulations also predict their successful explosions. Observational identification and investigation of ECSNe are important for the completion of stellar evolution theory. To date, only one promising candidate has been proposed, SN 2018zd, other than the historical progenitor of the Crab Nebula, SN 1054. We present representative synthetic light curves of low-mass FeCCSNe and ECSNe exploding with energies in circumstellar media (CSM) estimated with theoretically or observationally plausible methods. The plateaus of the ECSNe are shorter, brighter, and bluer than those of the FeCCSNe. To investigate the robustness of their intrinsic differences, we adopted various explosion energies and CSM. Although they may have similar bolometric light-curve plateaus, ECSNe are bluer than FeCCSNe in the absence of strong CSM interaction, illustrating that multicolor observations are essential to identify ECSNe. This provides a robust indicator of ECSNe because the bluer plateaus stem from the low-density envelopes of their super-asymptotic-giant-branch progenitors. Furthermore, we propose a distance-independent method to identify ECSNe: (g − r)tPT/2 PT − 0.4, i.e., blue g − r at the middle of the plateau (g − r)tPT/2, where tPT is the transition epoch from plateau to tail. Using this method, we identified SN 2018zd as an ECSN, which we believe to be the first ECSN identified with modern observing techniques. © 2024, CC BY.

Scaling-translation-equivariant networks with decomposed convolutional filters

Encoding the scale information explicitly into the representation learned by a convolutional neural network (CNN) is beneficial for many computer vision tasks especially when dealing with multiscale inputs. We study, in this paper, a scaling-translation-equivariant (ST -equivariant) CNN with joint convolutions across the space and the scaling group, which is shown to be both sufficient and necessary to achieve equivariance for the regular representation of the scaling-translation group ST. To reduce the model complexity and computational burden, we decompose the convolutional filters under two pre-fixed separable bases and truncate the expansion to low-frequency components. A further benefit of the truncated filter expansion is the improved deformation robustness of the equivariant representation, a property which is theoretically analyzed and empirically verified. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed scaling-translation-equivariant network with decomposed convolutional filters (ScDCFNet) achieves significantly improved performance in multiscale image classification and better interpretability than regular CNNs at a reduced model size. Uncertainty quantification techniques such as the time-dependent generalized polynomial chaos (TD-gPC) use an adaptive orthogonal basis to better represent the stochastic part of the solution space (aka random function space) in time. However, because the random function space is constructed using tensor products, TD-gPC-based methods are known to suffer from the curse of dimensionality. In this paper, we introduce a new numerical method called the flow-driven spectral chaos (FSC) which overcomes this curse of dimensionality at the random-function-space level. The proposed method is not only computationally more efficient than existing TD-gPC-based methods but is also far more accurate. The FSC method uses the concept of enriched stochastic flow maps to track the evolution of a finite-dimensional random function space efficiently in time. To transfer the probability information from one random function space to another, two approaches are developed and studied herein. In the first approach, the probability information is transferred in the mean-square sense, whereas in the second approach the transfer is done exactly using a new theorem that was developed for this purpose. The FSC method can quantify uncertainties with high fidelity, especially for the long-time response of stochastic dynamical systems governed by ODEs of arbitrary order. Six representative numerical examples, including a nonlinear problem (the Van-der-Pol oscillator), are presented to demonstrate the performance of the FSC method and corroborate the claims of its superior numerical properties. Finally, a parametric, high-dimensional stochastic problem is used to demonstrate that when the FSC method is used in conjunction with Monte Carlo integration, the curse of dimensionality can be overcome altogether. © 2020, CC BY.

Banana peels waste can be utilized to produce high quality biochar that can be incorporated into the soil for sustainable production of crops. This research analyzed several properties of the biochar produced from the banana peel at different temperatures, residence times and heating rates. This study focuses on the biochar yield and the EDX analysis of the biochar produced. Response surface methodology using central composite design (CCD) was used to optimize these parameters in the batch reactor pyrolysis system. These factors were operated in different ranges for banana peels, in which pyrolysis temperature (200 to 600°C), residence time (60 to 180 min) and heating rate (5 to 15°C·min−1) were varied using 20 experiments respectively. Quality of the biochar was determined based on the biochar yield and O/C ratio. The optimum biochar chosen from the CCD model was applied to several pots of Ipomoea aquatica in different biochar dosage levels of 0, 3, 9 and 15 g (0, 1, 3 and 5 wt% of soil) respectively. Pot experiment was conducted with completely randomized design (CRD) of one factor with five replications to correlate the average plant heights with the biochar dosage levels. Multisector method for arteries: The residual stresses of circumferential rings with non-trivial openings

The opening angle method is a popular choice in biomechanics to estimate residual stresses in arteries. Experimentally, it means that an artery is cut into rings;then the rings are cut axially or radially allowing them to open into sectors;then the corresponding opening angles are measured to give residual stress levels by solving an inverse problem. However, for many tissues, for ex- ample in pathological tissues, the ring does not open according to the theory into a neat single circular sector, but rather creates an asymmetric geometry, often with abruptly changing curvature(s). This phenomenon may be due to a number of reasons including variation in thickness, microstructure, varying mechanical properties, etc. As a result, these samples are often eliminated from studies relying on the opening angle method, which limits progress in understanding and evaluating residual stresses in real arteries. With this work we propose an effective approach to deal with these non-trivial openings of rings. First, we digitize pictures of opened rings to split them into multiple, connected circular sectors. Then we measure the corresponding opening angles for each sub-sector. Finally, we can determine the non-homogeneous distribu- tion of residual stresses for individual sectors in a closed ring configuration. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we obtain a partial factorization of the A α -characteristic polynomial of the firefly graph which explicitly gives some eigenvalues of the graph.
