A Model of Mass Customization for Engineering Production System Development in Textile and Apparel Industries in Thailand

This paper presents a framework, aiming to develop the mass customization for textile and apparel industries in Thailand. The developed model as presented is the relationship of the connection pertaining to customers’ needs at industrial levels, most of which are Original Design Manufacturer (OEM), a type of textile and apparel business. The outstanding of OEM is the presentation of newly created designs to customers with a variety of products. Importantly, in order to gain such effective production management, an appropriate administrative system with high flexibility, efficient production (Small Lot Size), and punctual delivery is crucially required. In relation to the framework for mass customization development, it concerns three main related involvements: customers, OEM industries, and suppliers, all of which will be assessed so as to be promptly employed in such firms manufacturing products in accordance with the productive systems of mass customization *** conceptual from mass customization systems will facilitate the management in terms of the production designing in factories, aiming at clustering which is complex to the creation of platform from common parts, leading to the development of a variety of goods by the process of product family.

The idea of a Kripke semantics endowed with possibility/plausibility information is not new;in fact there are different approaches for that;see: [6], [13], [16], [19]. This paper follows the approach found in [6], but whereas [6] provides a fixed interpretation for connectives into [0,1] here we provide a characterization of a fuzzy semantics for connectives in such a way that the resulting fuzzy frames: K, T and D, are described precisely by the set of statements which also describes, respectively, the usual modal systems K, T and D. © 2011 IEEE.

Achieving high performance optimization algorithms for embedded applications can be very challenging, particularly when several requirements such as high accuracy computations, short elapsed time, area cost, low power consumption and portability must be accomplished. This paper proposes a hardware implementation of the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm with passive congregation (HPPSOpc), which was developed using several floating-point arithmetic libraries. The passive congregation is a biological behavior which allows the swarm to preserve its integrity, balancing between global and local search. The HPPSOpc architecture was implemented on a Virtex5 FPGA device and validated using two multimodal benchmark problems. Synthesis, simulation and execution time results demonstrates that the passive congregation approach is a low cost solution for solving embedded optimization problems with a high performance.

Social navigation provides drivers with an advice that aims to shift traffic flows in a network from a user equilibrium to a system optimum. The advice is based on minimizing a combination of the individual travel time and the marginal total travel time in the network. The level of altruism defines the extent to which a driver is willing to sacrifice his own travel time in favor of other drivers. Fuel consumption and CO2 emission are taking into account by converting them into time equivalent. Experimental results for a small network loosely representing the Bay area show that social navigation can reduce time delays by 10%. The reduction is positively correlated with network load, market penetration and level of altruism.

Synthesis of musical instruments or human voice is a time consuming process which requires theoretical and experimental knowledge about the synthesis engine. Commonly, performers need to deal with synthesizer interfaces and a process of trial and error for creating musical sounds similar to a target sound. This drawback can be overcome by adjusting automatically the synthesizer parameters using optimization algorithms. In this paper a hybrid particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to solve the frequency modulation (FM) matching synthesis problem. The proposed algorithm takes advantage of a shuffle process for exchanging information between particles and applies the selective passive congregation and the opposition-based learning approaches to preserve swarm diversity. Both approaches for injecting diversity are based on simple operators, preserving the easy implementation philosophy of the particle swarm optimization. The proposed hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm was validated for a three-nested FM synthesizer, which represents a 6-dimensional multimodal optimization problem with strong epistasis. Simulation results revealed that the proposed algorithm presented promising results in terms of quality of solutions.

We measured the time-series variations in ²²²Rn activity at a fixed station in the Yeongsan River Estuary (YRE), Korea, where the upstream water is obstructed by an artificial dam, during November 18-24, 2008, and conducted a horizontal ²²²Rn survey in the Seomjin River Estuary (SRE), Korea, during December 16-18, 2008. In the YRE, we observed constantly low levels of ²²²Rn activity over the sampling period, relative to the summer in 2008. The ²²²Rn variations and ²²²Rn mass-balance modeling results indicate that the submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) in the YRE was relatively low and constant over the sampling period and that the temporal SGD variations were not related to tides or to the water elevation in the dam upstream. This low and constant SGD appears to be due to the lower water level in the dam relative to the local sea level during the study period, resulting in the SGD mostly from the surrounding land areas rather than from the dam. In the SRE, higher ²²²Rn activities were observed at upstream stations of the river (salinity: <5) and decreased as the salinity increased, but there were marked increases of ²²²Rn, together with dissolved inorganic silicate (DSi), at stations close to the river mouth (salinity: ~33). This suggests that the river has major groundwater inputs from the two extreme upstream and downstream areas. Because most chemical flux estimations via river discharge do not account for groundwater inputs from the downstream high-salinity zone, our results suggest that there is an important unaccounted source of river-driven chemical fluxes. Overall, our study shows that the continuous ²²²Rn monitoring system provides high-resolution information on SGD over different locations and times. © 2010 Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute (KORDI) and the Korean Society of Oceanography (KSO) and Springer Netherlands.

Collective Intelligence has received much attention in recent years, as organizations and businesses discover the power of crowds. With new technologies, such as blogs, twitter, wikis, photo sharing, collaborative tagging and social networking sites, people may create and disseminate content as never before. Many organizations are looking for ways to harness this power, which is being called collective intelligence. Additionally, many open-source initiatives have shown that it is possible to obtain high quality results from collectively produced work. In this paper, we consider the domain of emergency response. We have been working in this domain for a few years now, mostly focusing on small disaster relief groups and field command. One of the command problems is lack of information about the location where the disaster occurred. We believe some of this information could be crowdsourced, changing current practices and enabling more effective response to the situation. In this paper, we discuss the possibilities for crowdsourcing and present an initial proposal for harnessing collective intelligence for the fire department. © 2010 IEEE.

Neural control of movement is typically studied in constrained environments where there is a reduced set of possible behaviors. This constraint may unintentionally limit the applicability of findings to the generalized case of unconstrained behavior. We hypothesize that examining the unconstrained state across multiple behavioral contexts will lead to new insights into the neural control of movement and help advance the design of neural prosthetic decode algorithms. However, to pursue electrophysiological studies in such a manner requires a more flexible framework for experimentation. We propose that head-mounted neural recording systems with wireless data transmission, combined with markerless computer-vision based motion tracking, will enable new, less constrained experiments. As a proof-of-concept, we recorded and wirelessly transmitted broadband neural data from 32 electrodes in premotor cortex while acquiring single-camera video of a rhesus macaque walking on a treadmill. We demonstrate the ability to extract behavioral kinematics using an automated computer vision algorithm without use of markers and to predict kinematics from the neural data. Together these advances suggest that a new class of “freely moving monkey” experiments should be possible and should help broaden our understanding of the neural control of movement.
