On Nonconvex Optimization Problems with D.C. Equality and Inequality Constraints

The paper addresses the nonconvex nonsmooth optimization problem with the cost function and equality and inequality constraints given by d.c. functions. The original problem is reduced to a problem without constraints with the help of the exact penalization theory. After that, the penalized problem is represented as a d.c. minimization problem without constraints, for which the new mathematical tools under the form of global optimality conditions (GOCs) are developed. The GOCs reduce the nonconvex problem in question to a family of convex (linearized with respect to the basic nonconvexities) problems. In addition, the GOCs are related to some nonsmooth form of the KKT-theorem for the original problem. On the base of the developed theory we propose new numerical methods for local and global search. © 2018

Rough Paths theory and Impulsive control: A Promising Connection

This short discussion note is devoted to establishing some connections between the framework of dynamical systems driven by signals of a low regularity (rough differential equations) and the mathematical theory of impulsive control (measure-driven systems), which, as we believe, would essentially enrich one another. More precisely, we attempt to elaborate an impulsive (discontinuous) extension of the theory of rough differential equation for input-affine models with states of unbounded first variation. In the paper, we are focused on a concept of solution for impulsive rough differential equations with vector-valued controls of bounded p-variation, p£ (1,2), and its constructive representation through a (discrete-continuous) Young's integral equation. © 2018

Today, the operating TAIGA (Tunka Advanced Instrument for cosmic rays and Gamma Astronomy) experiment continuously produces and accumulates a large volume of raw astroparticle data. To be available for the scientific community these data should be well-described and formally characterized. The use of metadata makes it possible to search for and to aggregate digital objects (e.g. events and runs) by time and equipment through a unified interface to access them. The important part of the metadata is hidden and scattered in folder/files names and package headers. Such metadata should be extracted from binary files, transformed to a unified form of digital objects, and loaded into the catalog. To address this challenge we developed a concept of the metadata extractor that can be extended by facility-specific extraction modules. It is designed to automatically collect descriptive metadata from raw data files of all TAIGA formats. © 2019 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

A regular assessment of a technical state and calculation of a residual life are important measures for the safe operation of petrochemical facilities. These measures are parts of the industrial safety inspection (ISI) procedure. The efficiency of this procedure can be improved with the aid of decision support systems, which are process and reuse of accumulated information and experience on the basis of a case-based reasoning (CBR) approach. The formalization of the main ISI tasks is made in order to apply CBR. The case models developed for each ISI task. Testing models and approach was carried out in the special software in irkutsk research and design institute of chemical and petroleum engineering. Copyright © 2019 for this paper by its authors.

Minimum time function of a non-autonomous control system

For a time-dependent control system we consider a “reversed” minimum time problem, which consists in finding the minimum time needed by the system, whose state is initially located in a given set, to reach a given point. We show that the minimum time function constructed in this way is a unique viscosity solution of a static first order PDE, provided that, at every point of the extended phase space, admissible velocities form a convex set containing zero in the interior. We also describe a version of the Fast Marching Method (FMM) that effectively solves this PDE. © 2018

The open science framework defined in the German-Russian Astroparticle Data Life Cycle Initiative (GRADLCI) has triggered educational and outreach activities at the irkutsk State University (ISU), which is actively participated in the two major astroparticle facilities in the region: TAIGA observatory and Baikal-GVD neutrino telescope. We describe the ideas grew out of this unique environment and propose a new open science laboratory based on education and outreach as well as on the development and testing new methods and techniques for the multimessenger astronomy. © 2019 CEUR-WS. The paper addresses an important problem related to automation of simulation modeling of queue systems using high-performance computing. There is a large spectrum of tools for the simulation modeling of such systems. However, these tools often do not use the possibilities of subject-oriented high-performance computing in full. The purpose of the study is the development of the new tools for automation of the simulation modeling of queue systems in a heterogeneous distributed computing environment. To this end, we develop specialized applications for parameter sweep computations in such an environment. A methodology of the application development is based on the integrated use of methods of the conceptual and wireframe programming, methods of the computations planning and resources allocation, methods of parameter sweep computations, and methods of the data analysis. We develop the toolkit named SIRIUS III for the simulation modeling of queue systems using high-performance computing. In addition, we design a conceptual model that represents knowledge about both the subject domain of solved problems and computing environment. Using the proposed toolkit, we solved a number of problems related to warehouse logistics. The link between ordinary Standard Model (SM) photons and both dark photons and axion-like particles (ALPs) can be introduced through the dark axion portal coupling. Given the dark axion portal setup, in the present paper we refer to the dark photon as the mediator between SM and dark matter (DM) particles, implying that it decays predominantly into a pair of DM fermions. Furthermore, we discuss in detail the implication of the dark axion portal scenario for the lepton (electron and muon) fixed-target experiments. In particular, for the specific fixed-target facility we study the missing-energy signatures of the dark photon production followed by its invisible decay into stable DM particles. We investigate the potential to probe dark axion portal vertices with regarding signatures and derive the expected sensitivities of NA64e, NA64μ, LDMX and M3. Moreover, we estimate the expected reach of NA64e from the projected statistics of the J/ψ vector meson invisible decays. We also recast the BABAR monophoton bounds for the specific dark axion portal scenario. In addition, we modify the dark axion portal setup by including in the model both the hadron- and lepton-specific ALP couplings. As a result, we obtain the bounds on the combination of fermion-specific couplings of ALP from the fixed-target experiments. We discuss the implication of the modified dark axion portal scenario for the electric dipole moments (EDMs) of SM fermions. In addition, we derive novel constraints on the combination of the CP-violating neutron-specific ALP couplings from the existing bounds on neutron EDMs by taking into account the neutron anomalous magnetic moment.

The German-Russian Astroparticle Data Life Cycle Initiative is an international project launched in 2018. The Initiative aims to develop technologies that provide a unified approach to data management, as well as to demonstrate their applicability on the example of two large astrophysical experiments - KASCADE and TAIGA. One of the key points of the project is the development of a distributed storage, which, on the one hand, will allow data of several experiments to be combined into a single repository with unified interface, and on the other hand, will provide data to all participants of experimental groups for multi-messenger analysis. Our approach to storage design is based on the single write-multiple read (SWMR) model for accessing raw or centrally processed data for further analysis. The main feature of the distributed storage is the ability to extract data either as a collection of files or as aggregated events from different sources. In the last case the storage provides users with a special service that aggregates data from different storages into a single sample. Thanks to this feature, multi-messenger methods used for more sophisticated data exploration can be applied. Users can use both Web-interface and Application Programming Interface (API) for accessing the storage. In this paper we describe the architecture of a distributed data storage for astroparticle physics and discuss the current status of our work. © 2019 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.
