The paper proposes a multi-layer supervisory architecture for integrated control systems in road vehicles. The role of the supervisor is to coordinate active control components and provide priority among them. The supervisor has information about the current operational mode of the vehicle and it is able to make decisions about the necessary interventions into the vehicle components and guarantee the reconfigurable operation of the vehicle. The decisions of the supervisor are propagated to the lower layers through predefined interfaces encoded as suitable scheduling signals. The contribution of the paper is the application of the LPV methodology in a design case study in which an integrated control of four wheel independently-actuated electric vehicle with active steering system is developed. © 2014, FISITA. The paper proposes the design of an integrated vehicle control system for in-wheel electric vehicle, which is able to track road geometry with a predefined reference velocity. In the design the lateral and longitudinal dynamics are combined using the in-wheel motors and the steering system. The design methodology of the hierarchical control is proposed. The required control signals are calculated by applying high-level controllers, which are designed using a robust control method. For the control design the model is augmented with weighting functions specified by the performance demands. The actuators generating the necessary control signals in order to achieve the requirements for which low-level tracking controllers are designed.

Motivated by the fact that bounded variation (often discontinuous) functions frequently appear when studying integral equations that describe physical phenomena, we focus on the existence of bounded variation solutions for Urysohn integral measure driven equations. Due to numerous applications of Urysohn integral equations in various domains, problems of this kind have been extensively studied in literature, under more restrictive assumptions. Our approach concerns the framework of Kurzweil-Stieltjes integration, which allows the occurrence of high oscillatory features on the right hand side of the equation. A discussion about interesting consequences of our main result (given by particular cases of the measure driving the equation) is presented. Finally, we show the generality of our results by investigating two examples of impulsive type problems (from both theoretical and numerical perspective) and giving an application in electronics industry concerning polarization properties of ferroelectric materials.

A Dubins vehicle circumnavigation controller is derived based on an analysis of state space dynamics resulting from a state transformation. The controller is designed and analyzed in the state space with two continuous and one discrete variables. We showed that the property of our control strategy can be studied based on 2D phase portraits, including the case when the vehicle turning rate is bounded. As a part of our analysis, we found conditions that need to be satisfied for the controller to work and that can be used for gain scheduling and application of the control to a larger range bound. The results are illustrated by 2D phase portraits and simulations describing the control implementation, which is based only on range measurements.

This study presents a fuzzy prediction system for the forecasting and estimation of driving fatigue, which utilizes a functional-link-based fuzzy neural network (FLFNN) to predict the drowsiness (DS) level in car driving task. The cognitive state in car driving task is one of key issue in cognitive neuroscience because fatigue driving usually causes enormous losses nowadays. The damage can be extremely decreased by the assistant of various artificial systems. Many Electroencephalography (EEG)-based interfaces have been widely developed recently due to its convenient measurement and real-time response. However, the improvement of recognition accuracy is still confined to some specific problems (e.g., individual difference). In order to solve this issue, the proposed methodology in this paper utilizes a nonlinear fuzzy neural network structure to increase the adaptability in the real-world environment. Therefore, this study is further to analysis the brain activities in car driving, which is constructed in a simulated three-dimensional virtual-reality (VR) environment. Finally, through the development of brain cognitive model in car driving task, this system can predict the cognitive state effectively before drivers' action and then provide correct feedback to users. This study also compared the result with the-state-of-art systems, including Linear Regression (LR), Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network (MLPNN) and Support Vector Regression (SVR). Results of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed FLFNN model.

Background: Surveillance of health care-associated infections is an essential component of infection prevention programs, but conventional systems are labor intensive and performance dependent. Objective: To develop an automatic surveillance and classification system for health care-associated bloodstream infection (HABSI), and to evaluate its performance by comparing it with a conventional infection control personnel (ICP)-based surveillance system. Methods: We developed a Web-based system that was integrated into the medical information system of a 2200-bed teaching hospital in Taiwan. The system automatically detects and classifies HABSIs. Results: In this study, the number of computer-detected HABSIs correlated closely with the number of HABSIs detected by ICP by department (n=20;r=.999 P<.001) and by time (n=14;r=.941;P<.001). Compared with reference standards, this system performed excellently with regard to sensitivity (98.16%), specificity (99.96%), positive predictive value (95.81%), and negative predictive value (99.98%). The system enabled decreasing the delay in confirmation of HABSI cases, on average, by 29 days. Conclusions: This system provides reliable and objective HABSI data for quality indicators, improving the delay caused by a conventional surveillance system. © 2020 JMIR Publications Inc. To engineer the factory of the future the paper argues for a reference model that is not necessary restricted to the control component, but integrates the physical and human components as well. This is due to the real need to accommodate the latest achievements in factory automation where the human is not merely playing a simple and clear role inside the control-loop, but is becoming a composite factor in a highly automated system (“man in the mesh”). The concept is demonstrated by instantiating the anthropocentric cyber-physical reference architecture for smart factories (ACPA4SF) in a concrete case study that needs to accommodate the ongoing researches from the SmartFactory KL facility (e.g. augmented reality, mobile interaction technology, virtual training of human operators).
