We consider a perimeter defense problem in a planar conical environment comprising a turret that has a finite range and non-zero startup time. The turret seeks to defend a concentric perimeter against N ≥ 2 intruders. Upon release, each intruder moves radially towards the perimeter with a fixed speed. To capture an intruder, the turret's angle must be aligned with that of the intruder's angle and must spend a specified startup time at that orientation. We address offline and online versions of this optimization problem. Specifically, in the offline version, we establish that in general parameter regimes, this problem is equivalent to solving a Travelling Repairperson Problem with Time Windows (TRP-TW). We then identify specific parameter regimes in which there is a polynomial time algorithm that maximizes the number of intruders captured. In the online version, we present a competitive analysis technique in which we establish a fundamental guarantee on the existence of at best (N – 1)-competitive algorithms. We also design two online algorithms that are provably 1 and 2-competitive in specific parameter regimes.

Attacks and intrusions on computer networks often have different characteristics and behaviors that require professional help. The number of attacks is growing in line with the development of computer networks. In fact, expert knowledge is declining over time and should be reviewed and made available in the system, making it necessary to hire an experienced person. Cloud computing is an advancement in IT technologies that provide users with the most up-To-date, highly sought-After virtual services with high flexibility, low infrastructure costs, and minimal maintenance. Protection against network intruders is one of the most important security challenges for cloud computing, as it affects the privacy, availability, and integrity of cloud services. Because cloud computing is a shared environment, it can be vulnerable to various threats. Because building strong access systems are essential to maintaining cloud security, but it remains an obscure goal and a major challenge due to the growing number of cyber-Attacks. In this study, a machine-learning based approach was used to propose an intrusion detection system (IDS) based on a network based cloud computing model. During the previous processing phase, we used a feature selection algorithm from the CICDDoS2019 database to select features. We have used the Naive Bayes Classifier, Decision Tree Classifier, Supporting Classifier, Logistic Regression, and Random Forest Classifier, all of which are well-known categories. Simulation results when compared to these five different classifiers, random forest algorithm show improvements in overall accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score. We explain how various characteristics of machine learning techniques can be used to build efficient IDS. The goal of this research is to develop a new method based on intrusion detection systems and their varied designs for improving intrusion detection accuracy in cloud computing. © 2022 IEEE.

Magnetoelastic coupling driven magnon gap in a honeycomb antiferromagnet

Cobalt titanate, CoTiO3, is a honeycomb antiferromagnet recently confirmed experimentally to host Dirac magnons, topological spin-orbit excitons, and chiral phonons. Here, we investigate a magnon gap at the zone center which calls for a refined spin Hamiltonian. We propose a microscopic model for the magnon gap and attribute it to a lattice-distortion (phonon)-induced higher-order spin interaction. Strong magnetoelastic coupling in CoTiO3 is also evident in Raman spectra, in which the magnetic order exerts a stronger influence on phonons corresponding to in-plane ionic motions than those with out-of-plane motions. We further examine the evolution of the zone-center magnons in a high magnetic field up to 18.5 T via THz absorption spectroscopy measurements. Based on this field dependence, we propose a spin Hamiltonian that not only agrees with magnon dispersion measured by inelastic neutron scattering but also includes fewer exchange constants and a realistic anisotropy term. Our work highlights the broad implications of magnetoelastic coupling in the study of topologically protected bosonic excitations.

The economic dispatch problem (EDP) poses a significant challenge in energy management for modern power systems, particularly as these systems undergo expansion. This growth escalates the demand for communication resources and increases the risk of communication failures. To address this challenge, we propose a distributed algorithm with network-independent step sizes and an event-triggered mechanism, which reduces communication requirements and enhances adaptability. Unlike traditional methods, our algorithm uses network-independent step sizes derived from each agent's local cost functions, thus eliminating the need for detailed network topology knowledge. The theoretical derivation identifies a range of step size values that depend solely on the objective function's strong convexity and the gradient's Lipschitz continuity. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is shown to achieve a linear convergence rate, assuming the event triggering threshold criteria are met for linear convergence. Numerical experiments further validate the effectiveness and advantages of our proposed distributed algorithm by demonstrating its ability to maintain good convergence characteristics while reducing communication frequency. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

This paper classifies and summarises the historical literature on carousel systems in automated storage and retrieval systems in recent years. As an automated storage and retrieval system for distribution centers and production facilities, carousels facilitate the storage and dispatching of goods, significantly improving warehouse turnover efficiency. Their performance have been investigated by many scholars and experts. As carousels evolve and upgrade, more and more innovative algorithms have been used to improve the efficiency of outbound carousel storage. In this paper, we collate articles investigating how the carousel system is stored inbound versus retrieved outbound. We then discuss articles on the dual-command model of automatic storage retrieval systems as a whole. By reviewing over 50 papers, we summarise research on how to store and unload goods, focusing on the performance of automatic storage retrieval systems under dual-command conditions. On this basis, we review the current research's limitations and suggest future research directions. © 2023 IEEE.

In this work, we propose a new algorithm for detecting the indicator of delayed cerebral ischemia from video-EEG monitoring data. The proposed algorithm combines an algorithm for detecting the effect of interchannel time-frequency synchronization of wavelet spectrogram ridges of EEG signals and an algorithm for detecting motion artifacts in video recording frames. Using the EEG analysis algorithm, we identify an indicator that is used to predict the occurrence of ischemia. By analyzing the optical flow, we exclude time intervals in which erroneous fixation of ischemia indicators is possible. The developed algorithm was tested on the clinical data of video-EEG monitoring. The preliminary results obtained during testing confirm the fundamental possibility of detecting the ischemia indicators and the acceptable accuracy of detecting motion artifacts leading to an erroneous diagnosis. © Author(s) 2023. In the human pose estimation task, on the one hand, 3-D pose always has difficulty in dividing different 2-D poses if the view is limited;on the other hand, it is hard to reduce the lifting ambiguity because of the lack of depth information, it is an important and challenging problem. Therefore, two-stage representation refinement based on the convex combination for 3-D human pose estimation is proposed, in which the two-stage method includes a dense-spatial-temporal convolutional network and a local-to-refine network. The former is applied to determine the features between each video frame;the latter is used to get the different scales of pose details. It aims to address the difficulty of estimating 3-D human pose from 2-D image sequences. In such a way, it can better use the relations between every frame in the sequence of the pose video to produce more accurate results. Finally, we combine the above network with a block called convex combination to help refine the 3-D pose location. We test the proposed approach on both Human3.6m and MPII datasets. The result confirms that our method can achieve better performance than improved CNN supervision, a simple yet effective baseline, and coarse-to-fine volumetric prediction. Besides, a robustness test experiment is carried out for the proposed method while the input is interrupted. The result verifies that our method shows better robustness. © 2024 IEEE.

The two control objectives of voltage regulation and precise current sharing are conflicting in multi-bus DC microgrids. In this paper, a distributed control strategy is proposed, and it can achieve accurate current sharing and regulate the voltage of a critical node to the rated value. However, such a distributed control system is susceptible to potential cyber attacks that could deteriorate microgrids performances by corrupting communication links or actuators. To overcome these difficulties, we design the interconnected communication networks to establish a resilient cooperative system of multiple microgrids against unknown bounded injection attacks. The proposed resilient control strategy can achieve the control objectives of maintaining voltage regulation and current sharing within each microgrids under different operating conditions, and the interconnected system consisting of multiple microgrids cooperates to mitigate the adverse effect of cyber attacks. The dynamics and stability of the overall close-loop system of the DC microgrids are analyzed, in the present or absent of cyber attacks. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in two 4-bus DC microgrids. © 2023 IEEE.

Traditional electroencephalograph(EEG)-based emotion recognition requires a large number of calibration samples to build a model for a specific subject,which restricts the application of the affective brain computer interface(BCI)in *** attempt to use the multi-modal data from the past session to realize emotion recognition in the case of a small amount of calibration *** solve this problem,we propose a multimodal domain adaptive variational autoencoder(MMDA-VAE)method,which learns shared cross-domain latent representations of the multi-modal *** method builds a multi-modal variational autoencoder(MVAE)to project the data of multiple modalities into a common *** adversarial learning and cycle-consistency regularization,our method can reduce the distribution difference of each domain on the shared latent representation layer and realize the transfer of *** experiments are conducted on two public datasets,SEED and SEED-IV,and the results show the superiority of our proposed *** work can effectively improve the performance of emotion recognition with a small amount of labelled multi-modal data.
