Multi-perspective digital image correlation method using a single color camera

A novel 3 D digital image correlation(DIC) system based on a single three charge-couple device(3 CCD) color camera is proposed in this paper. Images from three different perspectives are captured by a 3 CCD camera using a reflective-based pseudo-vision system. These images are then separated by the different CCD channels, and the correlation algorithm for the multi-camera DIC system is adopted to evaluate the images. Compared to the conventional multi-camera DIC system, the proposed system is much more compact. In addition, the proposed system has no loss of spatial resolution, compares to the traditional single camera DIC system. The complex surface measurement ability and the measurement accuracy is significantly improved through the use of the multi-camera DIC algorithm. The principle of the proposed system is described in detail as well as the experimental setup. A series of validation tests are performed, and the results are verified with the commercial 3 D-DIC system.

This paper proposes an optimization model for community microgrid. The proposed scheme performs the scheduling of domestic appliances in a community microgrid using renewable energy resources. The objective of the scheme is to minimize the total operating cost in the whole community. The optimization problem is solved using the branch and bound algorithm. Blockchain (BC) technology is introduced for secure implementation of the proposed approach. Machine to machine interaction is facilitated using BC technology. The transaction information/ data is stored in the distributed shared ledger. The smart contract is used to automatically trigger the flow of electricity and the movement of funds once the necessary conditions are met. © 2019 IEEE.

Leveraging uncertainties for deep multi-modal object detection in autonomous driving

This work presents a probabilistic deep neural network that combines LiDAR point clouds and RGB camera images for robust, accurate 3D object detection. We explicitly model uncertainties in the classification and regression tasks, and leverage uncertainties to train the fusion network via a sampling mechanism. We validate our method on three datasets with challenging real-world driving scenarios. Experimental results show that the predicted uncertainties reflect complex environmental uncertainty like difficulties of a human expert to label objects. The results also show that our method consistently improves the Average Precision by up to 7% compared to the baseline method. When sensors are temporally misaligned, the sampling method improves the Average Precision by up to 20%, showing its high robustness against noisy sensor inputs. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. The availability of real-world datasets is the prerequisite to develop object detection methods for autonomous driving. While ambiguity exists in object labels due to error-prone annotation process or sensor observation noises, current object detection datasets only provide deterministic annotations, without considering their uncertainty. This precludes an in-depth evaluation among different object detection methods, especially for those that explicitly model predictive probability. In this work, we propose a generative model to estimate bounding box label uncertainties from LiDAR point clouds, and define a new representation of the probabilistic bounding box through spatial distribution. Comprehensive experiments show that the proposed model represents uncertainties commonly seen in driving scenarios. Based on the spatial distribution, we further propose an extension of IoU, called the Jaccard IoU (JIoU), as a new evaluation metric that incorporates label uncertainty. The experiments on the KITTI and the Waymo Open Datasets show that JIoU is superior to IoU when evaluating probabilistic object detectors. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Study on Fast Response of Semiconductor Laser Driven by Impulse Current

A simulation model based on single-mode rate equations of semiconductor laser and its typical parameters shows that, the photon stimulated emission rate at the early turn-on time of the semiconductor laser is increased with the increase of the injection current, and the corresponding rise time is reduced with the increase of injection current. However, for an output power is fixed semiconductor laser, increasing the injection current to reduce the rise time of the transmitted pulse leads to increase in temperature of semiconductor laser. We show that adding an impulse current in the front of the normal luminous pulse current can reduce the rise time of the transmitted pulse and ensure the stable output of the semiconductor laser. This method is verified by simulation and an experiment using PLTB450B semiconductor laser. The simulation and test results show that for an output power is fixed semiconductor laser, the rise time of the transmitted pulse can be reduced significantly by adding impulse current.

To solve the problems of missed detection, repeated detection and low precision in the process of subpixel corner point detection of black-and-white checkerboard used for calibrating microscopic devices in complexed industrial environment, a new detection method based on greyscale constraint on the four-neighbourhood diagonal was proposed in the paper. By analysing geometric characteristics of the four-neighbourhood region and the grayscale features in diagonal direction, the SINC greyscale distribution was adopted to constrain corner point position, which realised rapid detection of subpixel corner point. Comparing with the existing methods, in the new method proposed the rate of repeated detection and missed detection decreased by about 20% and 2% respectively, which achieved a high rate of detecting accuracy over 99.9%. Meanwhile, the maximum error of corner point detection lowered from ±0.6pix to ±0.3pix, which showed that precision improved by about 50%. Finally, microscopic calibrating experiments used for micro-hole centring system were carried out. The results show centring error was reduced from 10 μm (before calibration) to 3 μm (after calibration), and centring precision was increased by about 75%. It demonstrated that the new method improved the accuracy and precision effectively, which verified its applicable feasibility of microscopic calibration used in industry spots. © 2019 Institution of engineering and Technology. In order to improve the efficiency of coal mine locomotive locomotive dispatching and avert locomotive collision and clogging, a time-dependent petri net model was established according to the characteristics of underground locomotive *** the concepts of deadlock state and potential deadlock state are *** deadlock state corresponds to the deadlock state equation, which is the reflection of the running state and resource status of a petri ***, the deadlock state equation is solved for each ***, PIPE is used to verify the results obtained, and the results prove the availability of the deadlock state equation for petri net deadlock state *** whole experimental process and algorithm results show that the deadlock state equation can effectively simulate the deadlock state of the model, and prevent the generation of deadlock state of the model according to the potential deadlock state equation, so as to avoid the collision of locomotives and achieve efficient scheduling.

An extension to RPCA parameter selection and process monitoring

Multivariate Statistical Process control (MSPC) techniques such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Partial Least Squares (PLS) have found wide application especially in the statistical modeling and monitoring of chemical processes. However, real industrial processes often violate the assumptions underlying MSPC since they exhibit time-varying and non-stationary behavior. Adaptive PCA-based monitoring procedures such as Moving Window PCA (MWPCA) and Recursive PCA (RPCA) have been proposed to tackle this issue. Although the parameter selection for those procedures is critical to their proper implementation, this topic is rarely covered in the literature. This paper examines two methods for MWPCA and RPCA parameter selection using the Tennessee Eastman process as an example. Based on the findings a novel procedure for RPCA parameter selection as well as a extension to RPCA will be proposed and demonstrated. © 2017

Contraction analysis on primal-dual gradient optimization

This paper analyzes the contraction of the primaldual gradient optimization via contraction theory in the context of discrete-time updating dynamics. The contraction theory based on Riemannian manifolds is first established for convergence analysis of a convex optimization algorithm. The equality and inequality constrained optimization cases are studied, respectively. Under some reasonable assumptions, we construct the Riemannian metric to characterize a contraction region. It is shown that if the step-sizes of the updating dynamics are properly designed, the convergence rates for both cases can be obtained according to the contraction region in which the convergence can be ***, the augmented Lagrangian function which is projection free is adopted to tackle the inequality constraints. Some numerical experiments are simulated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented contraction analysis results on primal-dual gradient optimization algorithm. Copyright © 2019, The Authors.
