In the paper, a novel stereo video codec algorithm based on fast disparity and motion estimation is proposed. Firstly, this paper makes some changes to the conventional fractal video coding method. We use tree structured partition method to partition the encoding frames. Besides, domain block searching strategy and range is used in the coding processing. Based on the feature of video motion and structure of stereo video, a fast disparity and motion estimation algorithm is used to stereo video coding. Compared with the traditional fractal stereo video coding, experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm spends much less encoding time and achieves almost the same compression ratio and compression quality. At the same time, computing complexity is much smaller.

This paper presents an improved fast fractional pel motion estimation algorithm for H.264. First, to skip inefficient fractional pel search, smooth macro-block prediction algorithm is proposed. Then, to further reduce the computation load of H.264 fractional pel motion estimation, an extended diamond pattern search algorithm based on predicted motion vector is proposed. The simulation result shows that compared with the FFPS (Full Fractional Pel Search) algorithm, the proposed algorithm can save about 39.5% computation load of the whole motion estimation module only with PSNR degradation less than 0.189dB. ©2010 IEEE.

An adaptive shadow removal algorithm with background subtraction method based on shadow position and edges attributes is presented. Accumulative frames differences of symmetrical frames are adopted to detect the moving regions approximately, and the moving regions templates are constructed through static index, then the background model is built by the statistics of brightness information. On the base of above, background subtraction method and Sobel edge detector are combined to extract moving object and its edges which include shadow. The direction of shadow is determined by the edge and position of the shadow combining with the horizontal and vertical projections of the edge image respectively, the position of the shadow is located accurately through proportion method, the shadow can be removed finally. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is easy to be realized and can determine the direction of the shadow adaptively, then eliminate the shadow and extract the whole moving object accurately, especially when the chrominance invariant principle is ineffective. ©2010 IEEE.

In the paper, a novel fractal monocular video codec is proposed which includes: using new macroblock partition scheme instead of classical quadtree partition scheme;reducing the block searching strategy and range, thus increasing the calculation speed greatly;using homo-I-frame like in H.264;reducing repeating calculation. The fractal monocular video codec uses the MCP structure. And the fractal stereo video codec is proposed which matches the macroblock with two reference frames in left and right views results in increasing compression ratio and reducing bit rate and bandwidth. The proposed fractal stereo video codec combines the MCP and DCP. Experimental results indicate the proposed fractal monocular video codec could improve the image quality 13% averagely, raise compression ratio 3-5 times, and reduce compression time 90%;For fractal monocular video codec, the proposed fractal stereo video codec can raise compression ratio 3-5 and improve the image quality 0.5 dB. ©2010 IEEE.

We proposed a novel fractal video coding methodusing fast block-matching motion estimation technology to overcome the drawback of the time-consuming character in the fractal coding. As fractal encoding essentially spends most time on the search for the best-matching block in a large domain pool, this paper firstly ameliorates the traditional CPM/NCIM method and applies a new hexagon block-matching motion estimation technology into the fractal video coding. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm spends less encoding time and achieves higher compression ratio and the compression quality compared with the traditional CPM/NCIM method. © 2010 IEEE.

Based on the classical fractal video coding scheme, a novel hybrid video coding scheme joint fractal and objectbased function is proposed. A new technique of object-based fractal video coding in which each object can be encoded and decoded independently results in increasing compression ratio and speed and reducing bit rate and bandwidth is used. The proposed techniques include: using more effective macroblock partition scheme instead of classical quadtree partition scheme;reducing the block searching strategy and range, thus increasing the calculation speed greatly;using homo-I-frame like in H.264;reducing repeating calculation, etc. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method can raise compression ratio 4 times, speed up compression time 10 times, and improve the image quality 3 to 5 dB, the proposed object-based scheme improves the performances of fractal video coding algorithm greatly, and the hybrid object-based fractal video coding scheme is simple and effective, it adds more flexibility and practicability of fractal video coding applications. © 2010 IEEE.
