Sensitivity Improvement of OCMI Based on the Virtual Enhanced Harmonic Vernier Effect

High-sensitivity temperature detection plays a crucial role in scientific research and industrial applications. This work aims to enhance the temperature measurement sensitivity of distributed cascaded fiber Fabry-Perot interferometers (FPIs) based on the optical carrier-based microwave interferometry (OCMI) by utilizing the virtual Vernier effect. Considering that the magnification factor of the virtual traditional Vernier effect is constrained by the frequency scanning range, a novel virtual enhanced harmonic Vernier effect is proposed, wherein the two virtual reference FPIs and the sensing FPI form Vernier effects with frequency shifts in opposite directions, thereby achieving an enhanced Vernier effect. By designing the length differences between the two reference FPIs and the sensing FPI, which are twice plus a small detuning, the harmonic Vernier effect is constructed. The virtual enhanced harmonic Vernier effect achieves a sensitivity of 3322.54 kHz/°C and a magnification factor of 130.43, surpassing the sensitivity of the traditional and same-order harmonic Vernier effects. Additionally, the virtual Vernier effect allows for arbitrary adjustments to the length of the reference FPI, demonstrating the applicability of the proposed Vernier effect in distributed sensors composed of cascaded FPIs. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we develop a decision model based on dynamic programming to create an optimal crop plan for 2024-2030 in rural northern China. Considering different marketing scenarios, uncertainties, and crop substitutions and complementarities, this paper solves the problem with three sub-problems. First, the optimal cropping plan for 2024-2030 is calculated based on the cropping scenario for 2023. It is assumes that expected sales, cropping costs, yields and marketing prices are stable. Secondly, a multi-objective planning model was developed. It aimed at profitability and stability and took into account uncertainties. Finally, the planting plan was further optimised and it considered crop substitutability and complementarity, and the relationship between expected sales and selling prices and planting costs. Through dynamic planning and Monte Carlo simulation, this paper takes into account uncertainty and crop relationships and it solves the optimal crop planting plan for the years 2024-2030 with a maximum profit of about $7.737 million. Therefore, this paper proposes a decision model based on dynamic programming and it takes into account various factors of the planting plan for the next seven years. An effective method is provided for solving the crop planting strategy problem in sustainable agricultural development.

Microwave Photonics-Based Small Hydrostatic Pressure Sensing Assisted by Convolutional Neural Network

Hydrostatic pressure measurement is essential in many industries, such as oil and gas production, chemical processing, and environmental monitoring. Due to the minimal impact of small hydrostatic pressure on ordinary silica optical fibers, research on its measurement utilizing optical fiber sensing technology remains limited. In this paper, a novel microwave photonics technique, termed optical carrier-based microwave interferometry (OCMI), is utilized for small hydrostatic pressure sensing with the assistance of a convolutional neural network (CNN). The theory of OCMI-based phase demodulation is established, and numerical simulations are conducted to investigate the factors affecting the axial displacement of the fiber core. In practical experiments, the phase demodulation method is applied to small hydrostatic pressure measurements;however, the results are suboptimal. Therefore, the CNN is developed to assist in the implementation of accurate small hydrostatic pressure sensing. The small hydrostatic pressures predicted by the well-trained CNN model are in good agreement with the actual values, with an error of less than 0.25 kPa. In addition, the prediction results from multiple Fabry-Perot interferometers demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of utilizing CNN for OCMI-based small hydrostatic pressure sensing. The introduction of machine learning broadens the application scope of the OCMI technique, allowing it to be employed for distributed sensing of a wider range of physical, chemical, and biological quantities. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

The urgent need for complex terrain adaptability in industrial automation and disaster relief has highlighted the great potential of octopedal wheel-legged robots. However, their design complexity and motion control challenges must be addressed. In this study, an innovative design approach is employed to construct a highly adaptive robot architecture capable of intelligently adjusting the wheel-leg configuration to cope with changing environments. Advanced kinematic analysis and simulation techniques are combined with inverse kinematic algorithms and dynamic planning to achieve a typical ‘Step-wise Octopedal Dynamic Coordination Gait’ and different gait planning and optimisation. The effectiveness of the design and control strategy is verified through the construction of an experimental platform and field tests, significantly improving the robot's adaptability and mobility in complex terrain. This achievement not only enriches the theory and methodology of multi-legged robot design but also establishes a solid foundation for its widespread application in disaster rescue, exploration, and industrial automation. The octopedal wheel-legged robot is expected to become a leader in the field of robotics and play an increasingly critical role in the future. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The observability analysis is presented and a combining method applying extended Kalman filter（EKF） and high frequency injection（HFI） method is proposed to realize the estimation of rotor speed and position at standstill and in normal situation for permanent magnet synchronous machine（PMSM）. Considering the observability of start-up situation, a surfacemounted permanent magnet synchronous machine（SPMSM） model is developed using vector control method, then the high frequency injection methods are carried out to estimate the rotor speed and position accurately at standstill, while the extended Kalman filter algorithm is applied to validate the observability. Simulation results are shown that the proposed method can estimate the rotor position and speed accurately.

A two-level measurement-based dynamic optimization strategy for a bioreactor in penicillin fermentation process

One measurement-based dynamic optimization scheme can achieve optimality under uncertainties by tracking the necessary condition of optimality(NCO-tracking), with a basic assumption that the solution model remains invariant in the presence of all kinds of uncertainties. This assumption is not satisfied in some cases and the standard NCO-tracking scheme is infeasible. In this paper, a novel two-level NCO-tracking scheme is proposed to deal with this problem. A heuristic criterion is given for triggering outer level compensation procedure to update the solution model once any change is detected via online measurement and estimation. The standard NCO-tracking process is carried out at the inner level based on the updated solution model. The proposed approach is illustrated via a bioreactor in penicillin fermentation process.

In this paper, we reported both the experimental demonstration and theoretical analysis of a Raman fiber laser based on a master oscillator–power amplifier configuration. The Raman fiber laser adopted the dual-wavelength bidirectional pumping configuration, utilizing 976 nm laser diodes and 1018 nm fiber lasers as the pump sources. A 60-m-long25/400 μm ytterbium-doped fiber was used to convert the power from 1070 to 1124 nm, realizing a maximum power output of 3.7 kW with a 3 dB spectral width of 6.8 nm. Moreover, we developed a multi-frequency model taking into consideration the Raman gain spectrum and amplified spontaneous emission. The calculated spectral broadening of both the forward and backward laser was in good agreement with the experimental results. Finally, a 1.5 kW, 1183 nm second-order Raman fiber laser was further experimentally demonstrated by the addition of a 70-m-long germaniumdoped passive fiber.

A floor plan is one of the most fundamental diagrams for architectural design. Considering a large proportion of floor plans are rasterized images, we believe that parsing the rasterized images is a crucial procedure to automate architectural design. In this study, we evaluate the use of convolutional neural network (CNN) based image segmentation methods to handle floor plan parsing, instead of traditional measures such as template matching. Especially, we analyzed samples whose features are difficult for CNN-based models to learn;thus, we propose two training strategies, separate training and the use of a weighted loss function, to improve the learning accuracy for such complex samples. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed strategies performed well for the complex samples, generating more favorable parsing output. © 2020 ACM.
