The mononuclear nickel bis oxamidato) complex [(mathbf{L})mathbf{Ni}]{2-};mathbf{L}=o-mathbf{phenylenebis} (N-ethyloxalamide) has a potential for use in electrochemical sensors. The [(mathbf{L})mathbf{Ni}]{2-} complex was characterized by, for example, UV-vis spectroscopy, and its redox properties were studied by cyclic voltammetry. [(mathbf{L})mathbf{Ni}]{2}. shows a reversible redox event corresponding to the mathbf{Ni}{text{II}}/text{Ni}{mathbf{III}} redox couple at boldsymbol{E}{o{prime}}=360 mathbf{mV}(Delta boldsymbol{E}{mathrm{p}}=60 mathbf{mV}). To study the electrochemical sensitivity a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) was used and functionalized with [(L)Ni]2-. The modified electrode [(mathbf{L})mathbf{Ni}]{2-}@SPCE has been fabricated by drop-casting of [(mathbf{L})mathbf{Ni}]{2-} on the working electrode. The [(mathbf{L})mathbf{Ni}]{2}-{@}mathbf{SPCE} electrode exhibits the characteristic of improved reversibility and enhances the current response of ferri/ferrocyanide redox couple compared to SPCE. Furthermore, the modified electrode shows a good electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of D-glucose and the reduction of nitrate, providing means as a new and promising electrochemical sensors material. © 2022 IEEE.

Progressive industrialization is causing noise and vibration levels to rise. The negative impact on humans and the environment calls for protective measures to mitigate the disturbing sound and vibrations. Recent developments of noise absorbing materials have included acoustic metamaterials and acoustic black holes (ABH) into the focus of attention. It was shown analytically that no sound energy can escape from the ABH if the thickness of a tapered end goes to zero and the ABH is infinitely long. The wedge-shaped ABH serves here as a basis for further research and studies on matching focusing on specific frequency ranges. The combination of the CAD-software SOLIDWORKS, the FE-software COMSOL Multiphysics and Matlab enables a robust procedure to optimize the ABH design for specific, even low, frequency ranges. Therefore eigenfrequency, time domain and energy studies have been calculated. Combining the results is showing how the ABH performs at its eigenfrequencies. As a base structure, a simple beam was added to the ABH. If the beam stays at rest and the ABH is oscillating, its performance is positive meaning that the vibrational energy is concentrated at the tip of the ABH. The main focus here is the tuning of the ABH with parametric studies using parameter variations to the frequency range of interest. The resulting eigenfrequency curves are not only showing the optimal design parameters, but also the performance of the ABH at its frequency ranges. Furthermore a case study with a pipe system was carried out of an adapted ABH, underlining its performance. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

In this paper the design of a Time-Domain Full-Field OCT (TD-FF-OCT) setup for non-contact volumetric layer thickness measurement is presented and quantified in terms of achievable accuracy and performance. The capabilities of the instrument regarding its measuring accuracy are verified using foil thickness standards of different strength. Afterwards, a technical application of measuring a thin and rough varnish coated PET foil (foil thickness tfoil ≈ 150 µm, rough varnish layer thickness tvarnish ≈ 10 µm) is carried out. Since the device is designed to conduct areal measurements, the thickness can be accurately determined over several measurement points. The results are compared with results achieved by applying an alternative but destructive and more time-consuming measuring method (evaluation of microscopic images of respective foil slices produced by using a microtome). Finally, the achievements are summarized and identified optimization potential is highlighted. © 2023 SPIE.

Impedance spectroscopy is suitable for online battery diagnostics and state-of-health (SoH) estimation. Conventionally, impedance spectroscopy analysis is realized by modeling the impedance spectrum measurement with equivalent circuits. However, finding an appropriate global model can be time-consuming and challenging due to the overlap of the phenomena during the investigation. This paper proposes a novel approach for the SoH assessment based on the differential impedance analysis (DIA). The DIA extracts the charge transfer resistance and the double-layer capacitance from the impedance spectrum without relying on a global model. Furthermore, the time constant formed by the charge transfer resistance and double-layer capacitance is demonstrated to have the highest correlation for assessing the SoH of a battery. For the validation, a commercial lithium-ion battery cell of type Sony US18650VT3 is used and cycled 400 times. The results show a systematic correlation between the model parameters and the number of cycles, which forms the basis of a novel online method of SoH assessment. Moreover, the most suitable parameter to determine the SoH is the time constant τ at a frequency of 56 Hz with a coefficient of determination equal to 0.875. © 2023 IEEE.

Beverage quality control is crucial for ensuring consumer safety, product authenticity, and market integrity. Traditional methods such as high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry are effective but present limitations in terms of cost, complexity, and time efficiency. In this study, we propose an electronic nose (E-nose) platform, combined with a linear discriminant analysis (LDA) algorithm, as a novel approach for beverage classification. The E-nose system, comprising a gas sensor array, was evaluated using multiple beverage samples, including alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Key features were extracted from the sensor responses, and classification tasks were performed using machine learning techniques. Our results demonstrate that the LDA classifier achieves a high inter-class classification accuracy, with an AUC of $\mathbf{1. 0 0}$ for most beverage categories. However, intra-class classification, particularly among alcoholic beverages, remains challenging, with AUC values dropping to 0.64 for rosé wine. While the overall intra-class accuracy was $87.5 \%$ , further optimization is needed to improve discrimination between beverages with similar volatile profiles. These findings highlight the potential of E-nose technology for rapid, cost-effective beverage quality control, with opportunities for future enhancements through advanced sensor arrays and machine learning models.

To prevent foodborne illnesses resulting from the consumption of spoiled meat, it is essential to ensure the freshness of the meat in question. Consequently, impedance spectroscopy can be employed to achieve this objective. Nevertheless, in order to ensure the necessary portability, it is essential to incorporate sophisticated analytical techniques into the embedded system. This paper presents a comparative analysis of embedded artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for bovine meat monitoring. We implement and evaluate three machine learning algorithmsneural networks (NN), support vector machines (SVM), and decision trees on two embedded platforms: Coral and Arduino. The results demonstrate high classification accuracies, with a neural network achieving $99.47 \%$ on the Coral platform and a support vector machine reaching $\mathbf{9 9. 5 \%}$ on the Arduino platform when processing augmented impedance data across four meat classes based on their freshness. The trade-offs between accuracy, speed, and memory usage across different combinations of AI models and hardware platforms are discussed, providing insights for optimal embedded AI solutions in meat quality assessment.

Polymer characterization is essential for understanding the physical, chemical, and electrical properties of materials, which directly influence their performance in various applications. Accurate characterization ensures quality control, material optimization, and suitability for specific industrial applications, including electronics, automotive sector, and coatings. This paper presents a novel approach to polymer characterization utilizing rectangular patch antennas, exploiting the sensitivity of microwave frequencies to the dielectric properties of polymer materials. Patch antennas operating in the GHz range are designed to measure shifts in resonance frequency and bandwidth when a polymer sample is placed in proximity to the antenna. These shifts provide valuable insight into the electromagnetic properties of the polymer, as they correspond to changes in the effective dielectric constant and loss tangent of the polymer. The proposed patch antenna is applicable for sensing the relative permittivity $(\varepsilon_{\mathrm{r}})$ in the range 2–10, with a change in resonant frequency of 0.45% of the initial resonant frequency.

Supercapacitors (SCs) are critical energy storage devices that bridge the gap between traditional capacitors and batteries, offering high power density, rapid charge-discharge cycles, and long operational lifespans. As the demand for flexible and wearable electronics continues to grow, the development of low-cost, easily manufacturable, and high-performance supercapacitors has become increasingly important. This paper presents the development and characterization of a flexible supercapacitor based on laser-induced graphene (LIG). The LIG interdigital electrodes were fabricated on polyimide film using UV laser technology, while a $\text{PVA} / \text{H}_{2} \text{SO}_{4}$ polymer electrolyte was prepared and applied to the electrodes. The electrochemical performance of the supercapacitors (LIG-SCs) was evaluated through cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge tests. The study examined the influence of key fabrication parameters, such as vacuum drying time and electrolyte volume, on areal capacitance, and further explored the device's performance under mechanical bending. The LIGSCs demonstrated a maximum areal capacitance of 13.27 $\text{mF} / \text{cm}^{2}$ , retaining $\mathbf{3 9. 0 3 \%}$ of the initial capacitance at a higher current density of $0.5 \ \text{mA} / \text{cm}^{2}$ . Furthermore, the supercapacitors exhibited exceptional stability under mechanical deformation, with an RSD of $\mathbf{2. 8 1 \%}$ , indicating minimal variation in electrochemical performance across different bending angles. After 1000 charge-discharge cycles, the capacitance retention increased to $\mathbf{1 0 3. 5 \%}$ , suggesting enhanced cycling stability. Additionally, the reproducibility of the fabrication process was validated, as the areal capacitance of multiple LIG-SC samples ranged with an RSD of only $\mathbf{0. 9 6 \%}$ . The results demonstrate the high reliability and scalability of the LIG-SC fabrication process, making it a promising approach for cost-eff

This study demonstrates the application of second-generation quantum sensors in one-dimensional tracking. Due to their compact size, these magnetic field-sensitive sensors are particularly advantageous for medical and industrial settings where conventional sensors may be too large or vulnerable to electromagnetic interference. The proposed sensor setup achieves an average resolution of 1.22 mV/mm for tracking within a 100 mm range. The study also explores the nature and impact of various noise sources and discusses potential future techniques for mitigating these interferences. © 2024 IEEE.

This study prepared polyvinylidene fluoride/zinc oxide (PVDF/ZnO) piezoelectric films using electrospinning. The films were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), and their performance was tested to determine the optimal ZnO doping ratio of 15 wt%. sensor sensitive elements were created using screen printing, and a non-array sensor layout was designed, resulting in a tactile sensor cushion. A pressure data acquisition system was developed using a microcontroller to collect sitting posture data. A posture recognition system was built using a support vector machine (SVM) classification algorithm, achieving a recognition accuracy of 88.33% with different kernel functions. Finally, the pressure distribution on the sensor array was displayed through a graphical interface. © The Institution of Engineering & technology 2024.
