With the advancement of semiconductor technologies, the need for efficient power management solutions in integrated systems, such as RISC-V architecture-based microcontrollers, becomes increasingly critical. However, there is a lack of studies comparing current reference architectures in terms of performance and robustness, particularly in 22nm technologies. In this paper, we present a comparative analysis of two current reference designs implemented in the same technology-referred to as Reference Design A and Reference Design B. We focus on their approaches to thermal compensation, supply stability, and layout optimizations. Through simulations and experimental tests, we evaluate the performance of each design within a power management system that includes DC-DC converters and LDO regulators. Our results indicate that Design A exhibits superior power supply rejection with a PSRR of -85 dB, while Design B demonstrates enhanced energy efficiency and thermal stability, achieving a nominal current of 5.14 μA and a temperature coefficient of 16.21 ppm. These findings underscore the importance of balancing energy efficiency, thermal stability, and power supply variation rejection when selecting current references for low-power, high-reliability applications, such as those in the Internet of Things (IoT). © 2025 IEEE.

The demand for efficient power management solutions in electronic devices has increased significantly, especially for microcontrollers operating in low-power modes. This article presents the design and implementation of a Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM)-based buck converter for applications in 32-bit microcontrollers using 22nm CMOS technology. The methodology involves the development of a Constant On Time (COT) architecture that maintains a fixed duration for the activation of the high-side MOSFET, using a monostable multivibrator to generate the necessary timing signals. The converter's performance was simulated under various load conditions and process corners to evaluate its efficiency and output characteristics. The results show that the proposed buck converter achieves high efficiency, with peak values above 95%, while maintaining a low output ripple. Specifically, the converter exhibits an efficiency of 93.4% at a load of 1mA, with output ripple voltages as low as 2.20 mV under ideal conditions. The contributions of this work lie in the advancement of PFM converter technology for modern microcontroller applications, demonstrating the potential of 22nm CMOS processes to improve power efficiency and performance.

In this study, we developed a novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate formed by depositing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on a silver thin film-coated photoresist (PR) microcone array. The semiconductor photolithographic process was adopted for fabricating the PR microcone array. The hotspot enhancement effect of the SERS substrates was optimized by adjusting the concentration of the trisodium citrate, which was used as a reducing agent and a stabilizing agent for the synthesis of AgNPs. Experimental results showed that the proposed SERS substrate could detect the indicating peaks of Rhodamine 6G (R6G) at a relatively low concentration of 10-12 M. A standard detection curve for HbA1c detection with a linear detection range of 5000-20000 ng/mL with good linearity of 0.994 and a limit of detection (LOD) of 850.2 ng/mL was further established by adding HbA1c agent to artificial blood to simulate a real environmental condition. Recovery rate detection experiments confirmed the reproducibility of the established standard detection curve. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

The increasing amount of waste in a limited space creates a problematic scenario, particularly in urban areas. Thus, methods of diverting waste wherever possible have become a trend, such as the utilization of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) for alternative energy. In this study, residual wastes were characterized and analyzed for the energy potential it could provide for Baguio City. The majority of the waste composition comprises plastics (35.63%) and paper (44.83%). The association of heating value to moisture was found to have a similar trend with other related studies. Finally, the performance parameters of the produced RDF patterned from Baguio City WACS were measured, where the HV (12.673 MJ/kg), moisture (2.414%), ash (4.757%), and sulfur (0.215%), satisfy the condition of RDF 3 based on ASTM standards. The conducted study may be used as a pilot test for the waste-to-energy scheme, especially since Baguio city has no established WtE system in place to date. © 2024 The Authors.

The accelerated adoption of photovoltaic (PV) systems for renewable power generation in the Philippines will yield a tremendous amount of PV waste. However, the country lacks a comprehensive framework for understanding PV module waste volume growth and optimally siting Treatment, Storage, and Disposal (TSD) facilities for PV waste management based on minimum siting factor. The study aims to develop a regional framework that utilizes a geographic information system (GIS)-based approach to find the potential sites and optimal locations of TSD facilities in Laguna, Philippines, based on the estimated PV module waste growth of solar energy systems with service contracts and minimum siting criteria under department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order 2013-22. By 2060, the projected amount of PV module waste in Laguna province will be around 162,230 metric tons based on the waste projection results. The suitable sites cover around 19,720.5 hectares or 11.21% of the total land area of Laguna, which were determined by various siting factors that encompass social, economic, and environmental factors and obtained using binary suitability analysis and vector overlay analysis. The optimal locations of the two TSD facilities were identified using strategic positioning based on hotspot analysis, clustering algorithm, and proximity analysis. Consequently, the distance and GHG emissions of the two optimal locations were calculated. Indeed, the approach will serve as a guide for policymakers and other stakeholders in understanding PV module waste growth and strategically and optimally position TSD facilities on suitable sites for efficient and effective PV waste management. © Author(s) 2024.

Learning from Demonstration (LfD) enables robots to learn new tasks through an imitation process. This methodology can be combined with Behavior-Based Control (BBC), which facilitates the abstraction of behaviors for the robot by dividing them into micro-behaviors. These can be implemented using Artificial Neural Networks trained by bio-inspired algorithms. In this work, a novel methodology based on the LfD and BBC methods is proposed for controlling soccer robots, specifically for the Very Small Size Soccer (VSSS) category, which demands quick and dynamic responses. Simulations using CoppeliaSim were conducted to demonstrate how the proposed methodology can be used for path planning and path-following problems in the IEEE VSSS category.

Manganese-boron steels are widely used in hot stamping, resulting in 1500 MPa (PHS 1500) or even 2000 MPa (PHS 2000) tensile strength after the hot stamping process. These steels are most commonly used in industry in the form of AlSi-coated sheets. However, recent developments are being made to enable the application of uncoated steels, resulting in cost reduction, but bringing technological challenges to be overcome. The coefficient of friction (µ) is a fundamental parameter in sheet metal forming and is influenced by several factors, such as: surface roughness, working temperature, lubrication, contact pressure and sliding speed. In hot stamping, it is known that the temperature can have a great influence on µ values for coated plates, but there is little information about uncoated steels. This work aims to investigate the tribological behavior of uncoated PHS 2000 steel plates using the pin-on-disk test. Tests were carried out under three temperatures (800 °C, 600 °C and 400 °C) and contact pressures of 5 and 10 MPa. Results showed that the friction coefficient tends to reduce with increasing temperature at a pressure of 5 MPa, as result of oxide formation on the steel’s surface. Flash flood is a naturally occurring calamity, espe-cially in tropical countries like the Philippines. The wreckage and grief caused by catastrophic typhoons emphasized the need for an Early Warning System (EWS) specifically for flash flood and storm surge applications. This study focuses on the development of an EWS enclosed in a buoy that will operate by floating along the highland rivers of flood-prone areas and sending notifications to disaster management authorities if a flash flood occurs. This system will be able to gather data from the behaviors of water just by observing the Euler angles - yaw ($\lambda$), roll ($\theta$), and pitch (φ) while partially submerged in the middle of a river. The main distinction between this EWS from other systems is that it is an off-grid circuit, can also be submerged in the ocean for storm surge applications, and will utilize an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor to monitor the water behavior. Experiments done for this study confirmed the buoy's waterproof capability not only in securing the integrity of its electrical components but also by gathering Euler angles as the basis of water flow characterization. The program's data yields a graphical representation of yaw, roll, and pitch angles if the water flow is normal, disturbed, and turbulent. Hence, this system is leaning towards low power consumption given that power saving modes like deep sleep mode will be applied to the system which means that using one mode compared with another mode will result in 13.46% better power use optimization. Meanwhile, tests conducted for this study are done in a flume simulator since we can't fully simulate a flash flood. © 2023 IEEE.
