Temiki (Melastoma Candidum) is one of the unutilized wild plants observed to be turning pests on plantations. It has only been used for medicine and not for engineering purposes. Therefore, this study aims to identify and analyze Temiki’s chemical compounds, which are useful as corrosion inhibitors. The plant was washed, dried, then blended until it became a fine powder, and was further extracted by employing the maceration method with ethanol as solvent. The extracted compounds were also analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry (GC–MS) and the results obtained include, 2-Furancarboxaldehyde (CAS) Furfural, 1,2,3-Propanetriol (CAS) Glycerol, Acetic acid,1-(2-methyltetrazole-5-yl) etheny, 4H-Pyran-4one,2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy, 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural, cis-dimethylmorpholine, 3-penten-1-ol,2,2,4-trimethyl-(CAS)2,2,4, 2-AMINO-9-(3,4-DIHYDROXY-5-HYDORO, D-Allose, beta-D-Glucopyranoside, methyl, Hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester, 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid, methyl ester. This paper presents a control strategy applicable to systems operating in dynamically coupled environments for which only low-fidelity models describing the environmental dynamics and system rewards are available. The control problem is posed as a two player game wherein the plant and the environment are considered to be agents that seek to maximize their individual reward. Under this paradigm, the control decisions of the plant are then identified using a level-k cognition modeling approach, where historical sensor data is leveraged to augment predictions of the reward maximizing control input. We demonstrate the proposed framework via simulation of a multi-turbine wind farm wherein the objective is to maximize energy production when only low-fidelity models of the wake effect induced by the interactions between upstream turbines and the wind environment are accessible. © 2023 IEEE.

This study presents a general optimal trajectory planning(GOTP)framework for autonomous vehicles(AVs)that can effectively avoid obstacles and guide AVs to complete driving tasks safely and ***,we employ the fifth-order Bezier curve to generate and smooth the reference path along the road *** coordinates are then transformed to achieve the curvature continuity of the generated *** the road constraints and vehicle dynamics,limited polynomial candidate trajectories are generated and smoothed in a curvilinear coordinate ***,in selecting the optimal trajectory,we develop a unified and auto-tune objective function based on the principle of least action by employing AVs to simulate drivers’behavior and summarizing their manipulation characteristics of“seeking benefits and avoiding losses.”Finally,by integrating the idea of receding-horizon optimization,the proposed framework is achieved by considering dynamic multi-performance objectives and selecting trajectories that satisfy feasibility,optimality,and *** simulations and experiments are performed,and the results demonstrate the framework’s feasibility and effectiveness,which avoids both dynamic and static obstacles and applies to various scenarios with multi-source interactive traffic ***,we prove that the proposed method can guarantee real-time planning and safety requirements compared to drivers’manipulation.

Strawberry production is an important crop in the northern region of Thailand that is only available in winter. Theoretically, strawberries can be grown in plant factories that can control the climate conditions strawberries need. Generally, the cooling load from lighting accounts for almost 80% of the total heat load in the plant factory. To reduce the cost of using light energy and the heat load in plant factories, this study was conducted on cultivation methods in semi-closed greenhouses that utilize natural light during the day. Coolness is generated by solar energy during the day and stored in cooling energy storage that stored coolness is used during the night. The total cooling load for year-round strawberry cultivation in the greenhouse was about 814 GJ, consisting of the stages of strawberry floral initiation, flowering, and fruiting at 17%, 17%, and 66%, respectively. In addition, the payback period is around 14.16 - 16.29 years. © 2024 IEEE.

Unveiling the size effect of nitrogen-doped carbon-supported copper-based catalysts on nitrate-to-ammonia electroreduction

The electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction(NitRR)represents a promising approach toward achieving economically and environmentally sustainable ***,it remains a challenge to regulate the size effect of electrocatalysts to optimize the catalytic activity and ammonia ***,the Cu-based catalysts were tailored at the atomic level to exhibit a size gradient ranging from single-atom catalysts(SACs,0.15–0.35 nm)to single-cluster catalysts(SCCs,1.0–2.8 nm)and nanoparticles(NPs,20–30 nm),with the aim of studying the size effect for the NO_(3)^(-)-to-NH_(3) reduction ***,the Cu SCCs exhibit enhanced metal–substrate and metal–metal interactions by taking advantageous features of Cu SACs and Cu ***,Cu SCCs achieve exceptional electrocatalytic performance for the NitRR with a maximum Faradaic efficiency of ca.96%NH_(3)and the largest yield rate of ca.1.99 mg·h^(-1)·cm^(-2) at-0.5 V *** hydrogen electrode(RHE).The theoretical calculation further reveals the size effect and coordination environment on the high catalytic activity and selectivity for the *** work provides a promising various size-controlled design strategy for aerogel-based catalysts effectively applied in various electrocatalytic reactions.

The design and behavior analysis of road structures remain a challenge for road designers due to the demands to which the roads are exposed and the continuous traffic type changes. This paper focuses on the roads traffic demands and presents a comparative study of two types of forest road structures, with one and two geogrids, for different vehicle axle loads. It is shown how, in terms of mechanical resistance, the geogrids' presence impacts the state of stress and deformation in the road for the forest road structures analyzed with the Alize specialized software. © 2024 IEEE.

Characterization of deformation transition in the rolled LZ91 magnesium alloy under tensile loading

In this study,the mechanical behavior of crystal group of hexagonal close-packed(hcp;αphase)and body-centered cubic(bcc;βphase)during tensile loading was investigated to elucidate the mechanism from elastic to plastic deformation transition of the rolled LZ91 Mg alloy using transmission-X-ray diffraction(transmission-XRD)measurement,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS).The approximate proof stress of the LZ91 Mg alloy sample was found that the lattice strain retained the expanded state from 0.6%nominal strain,and the transmission-XRD measurement characterized the crystalline behavior during the transition by the integrated intensity of crystal group hcp(100).The lattice strain of bcc(110)decreased from the 0.6%nominal strain due to dislocation activity,which occurred nearβ/βgrain *** addition,we performed the analyses of electron energy loss spectroscopy(EELS)modes,the Li-K peak disappeared from the segregated Li regions of 10–60 nm nearβ/βgrain boundary at the nominal strain of 0.8%.Understanding this mechanical behavior during the elastic to plastic deformation transition by transmission-XRD is crucial for the development of Mg-Li alloys.

In this work, an optimal parameter tuning method for the PI controller is proposed to control speed and current loops of the surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) under the field-oriented control (FOC) strategy. Furthermore, to guarantee robustness of the system to parameter variations and disturbance effect, the extended state observer (ESO) is introduced in both speed and current control loops. The performance of the PI controller tuned by the proposed optimal tuning method is compared with the PI-PI and disturbance observer-based (DOB) controllers where the parameters of the PI schemes are tuned by the Ziegler-Nichols method. Different critical testing conditions (i.e., step changes of speed and load torque, step change of load during the acceleration of the motor) are studied to compare the performances of each scheme. Simulation results have shown that the DOB controller and ESO- based PI speed controller tuned by the proposed algorithm shown almost similar peformance, whereas an ESO-based PI-PI cascaded control scheme with optimal parameters had superior characteristics compared to other controllers in the study. The worst performance among the studied control schemes was shown by the conventional PI - PI cascaded control with largest speed drop and longest time to reach a steady state. All the control algorithms are implemented in MATLAB/Simulink environment. © 2024 IEEE.

Energy and water are the key impetus for humankind to survive in this modern era. First and foremost, availability of water in the habitat is seen as an asset. In this way water plays an important role in assessing one’s place. Nowadays, the non-existence of freshwater is a vigorous scenario in many parts of the world. This is due to development towards modern civilisation;in particular, the need for a place for concrete structures leads to afforestation and induces abnormal life cycles in nature. Water is required for almost all practices followed on a daily basis by humans, so there is a necessity to generate freshwater. Further energy generation through sustainable technologies is the need of the hour for the nation towards its growth. Therefore, the union of solar photovoltaics (PV) in solar stills is seen as the best viable solution, and is presented in this review. Supplementing solar stills with solar PV improves its thermal performance and overall productivity. Common methodologies utilised in the cogeneration system of solar stills and solar PV is the application of thermal energy and electrical energy derived from solar PV collector systems. In assessing all the studies, an average enhancement of freshwater yield by preheating of feed, direct heat absorption using a PV collector and evaporation of air using thermal energy absorption are seen as 37.38%, 43.6% and 46% respectively. Moreover, it is perceived that the average enhancement of freshwater yield by using electrical energy for operating heating elements such as heaters, thermoelectric generators etc., rotating elements such as blowers, wicks, drums etc., and circulation devices such as pumps are seen as 34.23%, 50.18% and 35% respectively. Among all the approaches, devices used to enhance the evaporation of air in the still enhances the productivity of the still when compared with other methodologies adopted. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
