Europium is the rarest and one of the least abundant rare-earth elements in the world. There are many chemical methods for this extraction of europium, among them application of green synthesized nanomaterial zero-valent iron (nZVI) is a very propitious, inexpensive, and eco-friendly technique. The nZVI nanoparticle was synthesized using green tea extract and applied for the reductive extraction of europium [Eu (III)] from an aqueous solution. The presence of polyphenolic compounds in the green tea extract was used as a reducing agent for the efficient formation of stabilized GT-nZVI. The green synthesized GT-nZVI nanoparticle was characterized by XRD and FTIR techniques. The performance evaluation of GT-NZVI for Eu removal was carried out under batch experiments with various experimental conditions such as, change in pH, initial Eu concentration, reaction time, and temperature. Almost 83 % of Eu was removed at pH 5 while only 65 % at pH 4 at 100 mg/L of initial Eu concentrations. GT-nZVI also shows better removal efficiency at high temperatures. According to the Langmuir isotherm model, GT-nZVI nanoparticles showed an adsorption capacity of 217.39 mg/g. The green synthesized nanoparticles also have good reusability capacity up to 4 consecutive adsorption cycles.

Sustainable city development concerns various dimensions such as citizen well-being, urban infrastructure, environmental friendliness, accessible transportation, and solid economics. Effective utilization of resources and energy is inevitable if a city wishes to transit towards sustainability. A sustainable city assessment framework is a useful tool in measuring and evaluating the management of the city resources without negative impact on the environment, facilitating the city to grant the well-being of the citizen in terms of safety, happiness, and convenience. The management can make use of the framework in planning and executing various policies for robust economic growth. Moving towards a status of a sustainable city is of great interest to an emerging city like Chiang Mai in Thailand. As a case study, Chiang Mai is unique in terms of its medium size, with the potential to be the regional hub. Chiang Mai is the 2nd largest city in Thailand, located in a strategic location and surrounded by diverse and nice natural environments, and is the center of medical and education excellence in northern Thailand. In this works, an overview of sustainable city indicators employed for several cities was conducted. The suitability of key indices was evaluated and discussed against the context of Chiang Mai. The Thai government's bio-circular-green (BCG) economy concept was also considered for economic and social development along with environmental protection to properly realize the potential of the city. From the preliminary findings, potential indicators of the sustainable city assessment may be grouped into three main components: economic, social, and environmental. Useful plans and guidelines from the sustainable city assessment framework were also proposed for the future development and expansion of Chiang Mai.

Network characterization of goods movement is particularly important to estimate needs and accurate management for freight transportation. The present study aims at characterizing the network of goods movement in Indonesia and examining the effectiveness of network characterization for prediction purpose. A network approach using RStudio was applied. It was found that the network of goods movement in Indonesia is characterized by weak inter-provincial goods movement, scale-free network, disassortative, having rich-club phenomenon, and having a core-periphery structure in which Sumatera Barat (West Sumatera) and Jawa Barat (West Java) appears to be the cores of the network. The findings also demonstrate that the prediction model developed by characterization performs better and can explain, on average, 39% of the variances. The prediction models for chemicals, fuel, meat and livestock, fish, crude oil, and fertilizer, have even better capability to explain variances in the volumes of goods movement by more than 60%. Potential avenues for future research are also discussed.
