Sawdust is one of the industrial wastes which naturally contains low energy density. An effective method is needed to utilize this biomass as a solid fuel product. This work aimed to investigate the physical and combustion properties of bio-pellets produced from sawdust under the wet torrefaction method. To prepare sawdust bio-pellet a number of steps were carried out including the wet torrefaction process, dough preparation, pelletizing, and drying. Wet torrefaction was performed by hydrothermally treating the sample in an autoclave at a temperature of 130°C and pressure of 2 atm (g) for 80 minutes. For the hydrothermal process, the used acetic acid solution was varied with variations of 1.3 M, 1.8 M, and 2.3 M. Properties of the product were analyzed under proximate and bomb calorimetry analyses. To evaluate the combustion properties a purposely built test apparatus was developed equipped with a data logger system. Based on the results it can be observed that increases in torrefaction temperature and acetic acid concentration resulted in an increase in the calorific value as well as decreases in the ash content. The highest calorific value was 4745 kcal/kg obtained from sawdust torrefied in acetic acid with a concentration of 2.3 M at a temperature of 130?. This sample also exhibits the lowest ash content which is only 1.97%. The combustion test disclosed a maximum combustion temperature of 589? with a burning rate of 0.711 g/min. Overall, the wet torrefaction applied in this investigation was beneficially enhanced the properties of bio-pellet products. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Diesel engines is an internal combustion engine with high thermal efficiency,which also uses biodiesel fuel,an environmentally friendly,non-toxic,and low sulfur *** has been around for a long time due to its similar characteristics to diesel fuels which has limited ***,several disadvantages are associated with biodiesel,such as poor volatility and high viscosity,which reduces engine ***,this study was carried out to improve the diesel engine performance by mixing biodiesel with ecodiesel(ED),an additive produced from natural ingredients that is dissolvable in *** biodiesel fuel properties used are density 860 kg/m3,dynamic viscosity 4.50E-06 m2/s,cetane number 45,and flashpoint 52°*** results showed that biodiesel-ED mixture could improve engine performance and the optimum performance was at a speed of 3000 rpm on 43.30(kW),124.93(N.m)of the engine torque,and 2.45E–5(kg/kW.s)of the specific fuel *** to paired sample t-test,the difference in the engine performance is only experienced in the torque,which has a significant increase in the composition of the biodiesel+ED by 0.07 gr mixture.

This study aimed at investigating the maintenance management of welding engineering workshops and factors affecting the damage of welding equipment in vocational high schools located in Special Region of Yogyakarta. The study employed quantitative descriptivedesign. It was conducted at vocational high schools SMKN 1 Sedayu, SMKN 2 Pengasih, SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Wates, and SMKN 1 Pundong. The respondents were heads of workshops, teachers of welding engineering subject, workshop technicians, and students. The data were collected through survey, observation, and interview. The quantitative descriptive technique was employed to analyze the collected data. The results of the study show that the maintenance management of welding engineering workshops in some VHS in Yogyakarta is Very Gooddespitesome problemsin the maintenance procedure. The factors causing the equipment damage are the unscheduled maintenance procedure, absence of inventory lists, lack of technicians, improper use of workshop equipment, and the limited amount of maintenance budget. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The study aims to describe (1) the development stages of the manual arc welding job sheet and (2) its validity. It is a Research and Development (R & D) of which the data were collected by means of non-test instruments, namely the closed-ended questionnaires with the 5-scale responses. The data were collected from the three research participants acting as the material and media experts,namely two lecturers in the mechanical engineering education study program, Faculty of engineering (FE), Yogyakarta State University (YSU), and a teacher of the Basic Welding Technique subject. The job sheet development stages were adapted from Thiagarajan's model, namely the Four-D model covering the definition, design, development, and dissemination. Data were analyzed quantitatively by means of the descriptive statistics. The results of the material evaluation by the material expert I prove that the job sheet is categorized as Appropriate (with the total score of 145 or 82.9%) and Very Appropriate based on the material expert II with the total score of 153 (87.4%). Besides, in terms of the media, the job sheet is Appropriate based on the media expert I (with the total score of 207 or 82.8%) and Very Appropriate based on the media expert II (with the total score of 215 or 84.4%). © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In improving the quality of human resources, one of which lies in the quality of quality education. In this case, education has a very important meaning in human life, both in the life of individuals, nations, and countries. Therefore education must be implemented as well as possible so that it is following the objectives that have been planned. The objectives to be achieved from this study are to produce teaching materials for GMAW welding practice materials, produce teaching materials that are suitable for use in GMAW welding practices, and provide an evaluation of the effectiveness of using GMAW welding practice teaching materials after being used in learning. This research method uses the Borg and Gall development research method which is simplified into four steps, namely modified (simplified) into 4 steps consisting of: (1) preliminary study;(2) product development and validation;(3) limited trial;and (4) the final product. The type of research used in this research is the development of teaching materials in the form of practice modules, job sheets, and evaluation sheets in the GMAW welding practice course. Based on the research results, the researcher can conclude that the development of teaching materials for GMAW welding practices has been implemented properly. The revised results from the experts have been applied to the modules made so that the modules can be used properly by students. © 2020 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

The aim of this research was to study the mechanical properties (compressive strength and splitting-tensile strength) of fly ash-based geopolymer concrete using variation in the maximum size of coarse aggregate. The mode of study was laboratory research. Fly ash obtained from Asam-Asam Steam Power Plant, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. The maximum size of coarse aggregate was 10 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm. The geopolymer concrete proportion divided into 3 different mixtures and each contained 400 kg/m3 of fly ash. The alkaline activator used as sodium silicate and 10M sodium hydroxide in the ratio 2:1. The ratio of alkaline activator to fly ash was 0.4. Cylindrical specimens (size 100 mm x 200 mm) counted 10 pieces for each mixture proportion and cured at ambient condition. The test result showed that average of compressive strengths and splitting-tensile strengths for specimens with 10 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm maximum size of aggregate at the age of 21 days were 11.04 MPa and 6.12 MPa, 10.82 MPa and 5.22 MPa, 10.06 MPa and 4.84 MPa respectively. In conclusion, the greater the maximum size of coarse aggregate, the smaller the value of compressive strength and splitting-tensile strength. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Biomass is a very important energy source in the sugar mill industry as the main fuel in the power plant boilers. The efficiency of boilers for most sugar mills in Indonesia is quite low and the availability of bagasse is lacking so that in its operations, co-firing has to be applied with an alternative biomass fuels such as rice husk, cane trash, wood and saw dust. Based on the analysis, rice husk has a lower calorific (3248 cal/gr) value than that of bagasse (4076 cal/gr), but it has a higher ash content (20.67%) than that of bagasse (3.66%), so adjustments in boiler operation is required when using rice husk as co-firing. The higher ash content in biomass can affect the performance of the furnace and superheater in the boiler and increase the potential for deposit formation. The composition of rice husk ash was dominated by silica (SiO2) which reached 95.52%. It is higher than the silica content of bagasse which reached 74.99%. The high silica content in rice husks has the potential to conduce melting ash in boiler grate. The alkali content of rice husk which was around 3.64% is less than that found in bagasse which reached 17.33%. Even though, the ash composition analysis shows quite small potential for slagging, fouling, melting, sintering, and agglomeration, but the large amount of ash content in rice husks can increase the potential for the occurrence of the risks. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Fertilizer is one factor that is very influential in the success of agriculture. There are two types of fertilizer circulating in Indonesia today that is organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer (chemical). The used of chemical fertilizers allows the distribution of natural radionuclides into the environment. This study was conducted to determine the risk of the radioactive index of chemical fertilizer in Indonesia using gamma-ray spectrometry. There are 6 types of samples of fertilizers ie urea, ZA, KCL, NPK, TSP, and Phosphate. Radioactive risk index value that is found in the overall sample of fertilizer is below the limit recommended by the ICRP. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Vocational high school is a secondary education that prepares students to work in a particular field in the industry. Vocational high school as creators of skilled prospective workers in the industry should be able to create and shape the strong character into the students so that after graduation, they have a work ethic that could bring them to develop their careers and implement their competency in the workplace. The problem that occurred was the lack of skilled teachers. The suitable solution to improve teachers' skill was by internship. This paper discussed teachers' internship design in vocational education and aimed to enhance the learners' employability skills. Hopefully, through this model, vocational education could implement it. © 2020 IEEE.

Aim of this research is to analyze the mechanical properties and microstructure of wear resistance steel plates joined by Submerged Arc Welding at different grooves welding. The welding current of 300 Ampere, voltage of 28 Volt and travel speed of 38 cm/min was applied. The microscopical examination methods were used for weld zones. Impact toughness and rockwell hardness test were obtained from the weld metal, heat affected zone and the base metal samples. The fracture surfaces were examined by using optical microscope. As results, there was no difference of hardness and microstructure among three grooves welding. The significant differences were detected at the weld zones. Base metal had the highest hardness value. Ferrite and pearlite phases were obtained at three weld zones, but the heat affected zone had coarser grain structure than the base metal. Weld metal volume and electrode length significantly affected the impact toughness of joint, where the larger of the weld metal volume and length of electrode fill in the groove welding, the higher of impact toughness. The lowest impact energy and toughness value were attained at V groove and the highest was at I groove. The fracture surfaces at all groove welds showed ductile fracture dominantly. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
