Risk Allocation Preferences in Indonesian Electricity Public-Private Partnership Projects: A Conjoint Analysis

This article investigates the risk allocation preferences of Indonesian government agents within a public-private partnership scheme in electricity infrastructure projects. A full-factorial conjoint analysis is employed by introducing three groups of risk factors, namely, 'Policy,' 'Legal,' and 'Project residual' risks, to form eight distinctive scenarios. A total of 37 respondents from a government agency and other public agencies participated in the experiment, and two distinct clusters within a single party (public entity/government) emerged. The two clusters agree on the order of importance of risk preferences but disagree on nearly everything else. The clusters diverge in the magnitude of risk importance, risk preference scores, profiles, and the most preferred scenarios. This article also determines that the risk preference profiles of both clusters do not consistently follow the optimum risk-sharing principles. Moreover, this article elaborates on the scientific contributions and practical implications of the findings. Results provide essential insights into the risk allocation preferences of the public agents. The findings contribute to the development of mutual understanding between the public and private entities. © 1973-2011 IEEE.

Microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) is an emerging geotechnical improvement technology that has received wide attention from researchers around the world. The applications of MICP in geotechnical field including soil improvement, surface resistance from erosion, coastal protection, and slope stabilization have been investigated by previous researchers. This paper presents a review on application of MICP for slope stabilization. Three subtopics were selected to be discussed: application of native bacteria, modified MICP methods, and field-scale studies. This review reveals that (1) MICP has the potential for slope stabilization;(2) native bacteria are ideal for use in MICP for application in slopes located in regions with variable cold climatic conditions;(3) to improve the effectiveness of MICP for slope stability, traditional MICP needs be modified;(4) MICP appears to have the potential to be one of the future landslide mitigation strategies since it works effectively in the field-scale test. Additionally, the recommended further researches in MICP for slope stabilization are: (1) study on the other types of native bacteria for diverse environmental condition is required;(2) to discover the best slope stabilization method, the combination of MICP and other traditional slope stabilization techniques should be investigated;(3) it is critical to investigate the effectiveness of the MICP technology for slope stabilization under various conditions in the field. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Solar radiation is a varied source of energy, and the mismatch between the availability of these sources and domestic energy demand is a major challenge that must be faced. Energy storage system can be considered as effective solution to overcome the challenge in solar energy utilization. In this work, a thermal box was prepared as energy storage testing apparatus by using a 5W lamp as the heat source located at the center of the box. In the middle of thermal box, the sample of phase change material (PCM) was placed and monitored in order to find out the charging and discharging characteristics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the charging and discharging performance of NaCl–KCl eutectic salt at various ratios. The specific heat capacity and density of all PCM samples were also tested during this investigation. The changes in temperature were observed through type-k thermocouple sensors equipped with data logger. In general, it can be concluded that reducing KCl portion in PCM slightly decreases the specific heat capacity. Experiment results showed that PCM-1 (eutectic salt with 30 wt% NaCl–70 wt% KCl) has the highest specific heat capacity, i.e., 6.93 J/g˚C. The highest rate of charging and discharging was exhibited by PCM-1, highlighting a positive effect of KCl content in eutectic salt. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Transporting payload with precise swing angles and transfer times poses a challenging task in building construction, which is why gantry crane systems are extensively utilized. Various control strategies, including open-loop and closed-loop systems, have been proposed to tackle this issue. However, most of these controllers rely on a model and parameters specific to the crane system, making the process of modeling and parameter identification complex and time-consuming. To address this challenge, this work presents a practical and simulation control method for automatic gantry cranes, which is evaluated simulation and experimentally. The lab-scale Gantry crane is developed in this work, which consists of mechanical and electrical parts. Proportional Integral and Derivative (PID) and Proportional Derivative (PD) controllers which applied optimization method are implemented in the electrical part of the system. The PID and PD controller applied in controlled the position and swing angle, respectively. The Gradient Decent optimization method is the best optimization method in determining the parameter of the controller, since it has the best simulation performance in the output of the system. The experimental result is developed and compared between simulation and lab-scale Gantry crane hardware implementation part. The performance of experimental results is shown appropriately approaching the performance of the simulation result, with the approximately settling time. © 2023 IEEE.

Biomass gasification converts into syngas through the gasification process is promising for renewable energy utilization. Although gasification is a sustainable and environmentally-friendly technology for value-added utilization of biomass, yield percentage is the major problem during biomass gasification. An optimized gasifier and highly active catalyst were proved to be effective for biomass production. Furthermore, the decomposition pathway was also important to advance the gasification reactors and catalyst design. This paper summarized the fundamentals, such as gasifier types, zeolite catalysts, and reaction and deactivation mechanisms. This review also sheds light on other excellent catalysts, effective gasifier, and catalyst reaction mechanisms are also discussed in detail. At last, the paper ends with a conclusion and a prospective discussion of the lab-scale research. At the contact time of 240 minutes, with a column height of 30 cm, at a temperature of 450 oC, the concentration of syngas promise well. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are bioelectrochemical instruments that exploit living microbes as biocatalysts for the conversion of chemical energy stored in the bonds of substrates into electrical energy. Monitoring of current or voltage generation in microbial fuel cells at rigid time intervals is noteworthy. Unfortunately, bioelectrochemical studies are often constrained due to the need for expensive and precise devices for electrochemical measurements. Utilization of low-cost microcontroller as monitoring system can be a considerable solution, compared with data logger that is a high-cost device, or compared with commercial multimeter that have to be used manually in collecting data. In this present work, microbial fuel cells electricity generation was successfully online monitored and the voltage data was also successfully collected using an ESP32 based-data logger. Statistically, there was no significant difference between ESP32 and multimeter in voltage reading, and the average of absolute and relative error values were 0.85 mV and 2.72%, respectively. It suggested that ESP32 could be a possible and low-cost monitoring system for microbial fuel cells bioelectricity generation. Additionally, ADS1115 (an external analogue to digital converter interface to ESP32) has up to four analogue channels, whereas multimeter has just one. In this research, microbial fuel cell powered by isolate KCf1 generated highest voltage value of 789 mV and power density of 541 mW m⁻². © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Iranian Society of Environmentalists (IRSEN) and Science and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University 2023.

Increasing amount of waste poses substantial environmental issues because poor waste management emits higher greenhouse gas (GHG, contributing to global warming and climate change. As Indonesia's most populous city, Jakarta faces challenges related to waste management. The city generates significant waste daily, with limited resources and funding to manage it *** study aims to analyze GHG emissions from Jakarta's waste sector and design management scenarios to optimize GHG emission reductions. The research examines local factors to determine the most effective scenario for Jakarta from three proposed waste management designs. The findings may serve as a basis for policymaking that promotes low-carbon and climate-resilient regional development. The study demonstrates that integrated waste management can significantly reduce GHG emissions compared to current practices in Jakarta. However, challenges related to policy and legal frameworks, stakeholder engagement, waste facility technologies, and financial resources must be addressed to achieve these reductions. © 2024, The Authors. UV exposure, soil burial, and storage ability tests were carried out on biocomposite films with different concentrations of nanocrystal cellulose to study their biodegradability and morphological properties compared to neat whey protein films. The addition of nanocrystal cellulose as a natural filler to the whey protein based film can change a variety of properties such as strength, shelf life, biodegradability, and resistance to environmental conditions that are required in food packaging. The degradation films were assessed by UV exposure and soil burial tests. On the other hand, packaging ability is analyzed through storage tests under controlled conditions. After the analysis, changes in physical, chemical, and morphological properties were observed in the biocomposite film. From these results, we can conclude that the whey protein film with the addition of 3% nanocrystal cellulose would be a more favorable choice because of its better properties and suitability for the proposed biodegradable food packaging application. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. Effect of physical and biological pretreatment on sugarcane bagasse waste-based biogas production

Sugarcane bagasse is a biomass with very potential, especially in agricultural countries. In this research, a study related to pretreatment and the ratio of C/N to biogas production from sugarcane bagasse was conducted. The study was carried out on a laboratory scale with physical pretreatment by grinding with a size of 6 mesh, then biological pretreatment with the microbial consortium 5 % g/V, and variations in the C/N ratio at 25 and 30. Cow rumen fluid was used in this study as a source of anaerobic bacteria and technical urea is used to adjust the C/N ratio. The solid total is set at 7 %. Based on research that has been carried out for 60 days, it was found that physical pretreatment by grinding with a size of 6 mesh can increase biogas production. Biogas production increased both at C/N ratio conditions of 25 and 30. Furthermore, biological pretreatment with the microbial consortium 5 % g/V was proven to increase biogas production at both C/N ratios of 25 and 30. Further studies on the C/N ratio, it was found that the C/N ratio of 25 was better than the C/N ratio of 30. This is evident in several variables, including raw and fine substrate conditions, as well as on variables with or without a microbial consortium, with the amount of biogas productivity at a C/N 25 ratio of 53-90.5 % higher than the C/N 30 ratio. © 2023 The Authors.
