Coal-fired power plants are major contributors to global CO2 emissions, prompting the need for strategies to mitigate their environmental impact. Ammonia co-firing has emerged as a promising solution for reducing CO2 emissions. This study employs computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize ammonia injection in a 1000 MW Ultra Super Critical Coal Fired Power Plant. Initially, four injection locations (equally divided, top burner, bottom burner, mid burner) were simulated at a 20% thermal energy co-firing ratio. The bottom burner injection showed the lowest NOx emissions. Building on these findings, the focus shifted to varying injection locations, particularly the bottom burner. Increased co-firing ratios led to reduced gross power and derating due to altered heat absorption and water content from ammonia combustion. Flue gas properties and composition were affected. NOx emissions showed a complex trend with initial reductions up to 20% due to ammonia's effect, but exceeding 20% co-firing led to dramatic NOx increases, surpassing limits at 60% co-firing. Burnout ratio linearly increased due to low unburned ammonia. However, coal burnout exhibited a different pattern, initially increasing, then declining after 40% co-firing. This was attributed to the char-NO reaction counteracting decreased coal volatilization caused by high ammonia levels. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Indonesia has lots of natural resources especially in marine sector such as yellowstripe scad and long-jawed mackerel. Those fish are usually dried by fisherman for longer storage using conventional drying by heat from the sun. This conventional drying method takes hours, about two or three days depends on sun heat intensity. Based on that problem, mechanical drying system may overcome the problem. Automatic fish dryer is designed to dry the fish effectively with even heat distribution with palette rotation system which is hoped to increase productivity and economic potential for coastal communities. The prototype is designed theoretically with mechanical design to generate part specification including heater, shaft, electric motor, bearing, pulley and transmission. CFD method to discover the heat distribution inside with 5,239 nodes and STD k-Ε turbulence model. A 400 mm × 500 mm × 420 mm prototype is generated to dry 2 kg of long-jawed mackerels in 5.3 h with 0.00419 g/s for drying mass flow rate from 70 to 30% water content. CFD simulation shows the exhaust fan need to be installed at outlet for better water-vapor flow distribution. This research indicates that automatic fish dryer can dry 4 times faster than conventional drying system. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The 2 stroke single cylinder (63 cc) engine of 750 watt electric generator is very popular in the application because providing enough amount of electricity for small house hold with compact size, light weight with reasonable price. Usually this type of electric generator is fuelled with gasoline that mixed with oil as lubricant. The cylinder volume of the engine is usually around 63 cc. This type of engine can be fuelled with biogas with addition component to mix biogas together with air and lubricant, and set the compression pressure at 10 bar. Biogas mainly contain methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), moisture (H2O), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The CH4 is combustible gas and can be used as a fuel for internal combustion engine. Moisture and H2S are easily removed from biogas. To remove CO2 from biogas is about difficult and costly, therefore acceptable content of CO2 in the biogas should be investigate related with the fuel consumption. This research is conducted to understand the influent of ratio CH4 and CO2 in the biogas to fuel consumption of the 2 stroke single cylinder engine of 750 watt electric generator. The variations ratio of CH4 and CO2 were obtained from anaerobic digester with batch system. The results indicate that the CH4 and CO2 ration in the range 1.667-1.967 will yield optimum efficiency that reach biogas consumption in the range of 9.1-9.8 liter/minute. © 2021 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Lifting spreader construction with a maximum capability of 180 tons every day works by carrying transformer loads that vary up to maximum loads. The loads tested were 105 tons, 125 tons, 150 tons and 180 tonsThe tool not only experiences vertical tensile load but also experiences horizontal load due to acceleration or deceleration of the overhead crane. To prevent fracture due to fatigue, the lifting spreader needs to be analyzed its service life. Obtained data of mass transformers per year and construction specification will be dynamically analyzed using SAP2000 software to gain informationmaximum and minimum stress from each of its shell nodes. Data Collectionof stress will be processed through the S-N Curve mechanism and Palmsgren Miner rules to determine the cyclic load of the fatigue life plate of spreader. This analysis found that maximum capacity 180 tons value Sf above from endurance limit state. And the assessmentdecline fatigue life of the lifting spreader based data within 45 years. The researcher recommends a decrease in the value of the capacity till to 10 percent for things that are not expected that result in a decrease in the quality of construction. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Metaheuristics have evolved significantly in the last few decades. Nowadays, more complex problems and essential applications are emerging, requiring more powerful metaheuristics to handle them. This article analyzes the characteristics and performance of existing metaheuristics, with particular emphasis on their learning mechanisms. Several critical aspects for improvement are identified, and several promising future research areas are recommended.

Artificial intelligence was recently implemented in various fields. One of these applied artificial intelligence systems was the Performance Monitoring System “SiMoniK” for MSMEs. This system was designed through the C4.5 algorithm and the Porat-Rank method. The C4.5 algorithm was applied to classify the MSMEs into three classifications, e.g. the micro enterprise classification, the small enterprise classification, and the medium enterprise classification. Moreover, the Porat-Rank method was also applied to distribute the solving-problem recommendations and to improve the independence of MSMEs. The result of this study was that the C4.5 algorithm could classify the MSME data correctly in the form of an accuracy value of 99.2%. Besides, the Porat-Rank method could also provide recommendations in the form of outstanding quality with an NDCG mean value of 0.87.

Electric vehicles (EV s) boast zero tailpipe emissions, directly improving air quality and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the promise of EVs for sustainable transportation, their limited range is a key challenge. Regenerative braking is a promising approach for enhancing the driving range. This research proposes a study of Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Logic (IT2FL) control to improve regenerative braking efficiency in an electric trike. Employing IT2FL control for regenerative braking recovers 35.84% of energy, translating to a 91.053 km increase in driving range. The IT2FL method achieved a range of 50 km/kWh, representing a significant 41.7% improvement. Furthermore, utilizing the Nie-Tan Method reducer within the IT2FL framework could extend the range by an additional 2.3 km, resulting in a 3 % increase in energy recovery. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of IT2FL control in enhancing regenerative braking efficiency for the electric trike. © 2024 IEEE.

The Semarang City Government has issued a Mayor Regulation on Green Buildings since 2019. Since then the construction of buildings with a certain floor area in Semarang City must follow this regulation. Evaluating implementation constraints related to green building construction based on the experience of the development actors, is an important thing to do. This study aims to identify obstacles in realizing green buildings in the city of Semarang. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire survey of respondents from development actors involved in green buildings such as contractors, consultants and project owners and bureaucratic officials related to green building licensing. Data analysis was performed using descriptive analysis to reach agreement between respondents. Next, a hierarchy of these constraints will be sought. Constraints found in realizing green buildings are: lack of socialization from the city government, alternative materials, lack of best practices, experts, and financing. For this reason, a strategy is needed to overcome these obstacles from every aspect or based on a combined consideration of all aspects. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In the agricultural countries, rice husk is an abundant waste, especially as one of the largest sources of silica (SiO2) production that can be produced. By complete combustion, to about 87% - 97% SiO2 content can be produced from rice husks. Alkaline solution is used as a solvent in the solid-liquid extraction process of rice husk ash. The mass of 10 grams of rice husk ash was weighed for the extraction process added with 80 ml of potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution with 10%, 15% and 20% various concentration for 60 minutes to extract the SiO2 content. The solution was added with 1 N hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution to precipitate the SiO2, after the extraction process was complete. The SiO2 formed is then separated from the rest of the solution by filtration. Next step is the drying process which aims to remove the moisture content of the resulting SiO2. In a systematic study, for 60 minutes the rice husks were soaked and washed using HCl and then heated in a muffle furnace. The results of this study showed that all samples are succeeded in homogenizing SiO2 with a purity close to 90%. Furthermore, through X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis was proven these results obtained through solid-liquid extraction of KOH from rice husks. Green SiO2, known as biosilica, is useful and has potential in reinforcing compounds, including applications as filler in tires and natural rubber compounds. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Sediment microbial fuel cells (SMFCs) generate bioelectricity from benthic sediments and thus providing both bioelectricity generation and sediment remediation. However, the high internal resistance of the cathode leads to a low power output, which requires research on cathode treatment. In this study, we explored the influence of light irradiation on bioelectricity production and nutrient removal in the SMFC system. The microcosm experiment of the SMFC system was designed with artificial illumination of 500 lux (light-SMFC) and compared with dark conditions of 15 lux (dark-SMFC), which showed that the current increases during photoperiods. The study reveals that light-illuminated SMFC consistently produced the highest voltage, with the highest voltage (553 mV) being 1.3 times higher than the dark-SMFC (440 mV). The polarization curves show a significant reduction in internal cathodic resistance under light condition, resulting in increased voltage generation. The light-SMFC exhibits the highest maximum power density of 35.93 mW/m2, surpassing the dark SMFC of 31.13 mW/m2. It was found that light illumination in the SMFC system increases oxygen availability in the cathodic region, which supports the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) process. At the same time, the high bioelectricity output contributes to the highest sediment remediation by greatly reducing the chemical oxygen demand (COD) and phosphate (PO4–P) concentrations. The study highlights the potential of light illumination in mitigating cathodic limitation to improve SMFC performance and nutrient removal. © 2024
