Dark matter particles, if sufficiently light, may be produced in decays of the Higgs boson. This Letter presents a statistical combination of searches for H→invisible decays where H is produced according to the standard model via vector boson fusion, Z(ℓℓ)H, and W/Z(had)H, all performed with the ATLAS detector using 36.1 fb−1 of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV at the LHC. In combination with the results at s=7 and 8 TeV, an exclusion limit on the H→invisible branching ratio of 0.26(0.17−0.05+0.07) at 95% confidence level is observed (expected).

This Letter presents the observation and measurement of electroweak production of a same-sign W boson pair in association with two jets using 36.1 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis is performed in the detector fiducial phase-space region, defined by the presence of two same-sign leptons, electron or muon, and at least two jets with a large invariant mass and rapidity difference. A total of 122 candidate events are observed for a background expectation of 69±7 events, corresponding to an observed signal significance of 6.5 standard deviations. The measured fiducial signal cross section is σfid=2.89−0.48+0.51(stat)−0.28+0.29(syst) fb.

This Letter presents a search for the production of a long-lived neutral particle (Zd) decaying within the ATLAS hadronic calorimeter, in association with a standard model (SM) Z boson produced via an intermediate scalar boson, where Z→ℓ+ℓ− (ℓ=e, μ). The data used were collected by the ATLAS detector during 2015 and 2016 pp collisions with a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.1±0.8 fb−1. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. Limits on the production cross section of the scalar boson times its decay branching fraction into the long-lived neutral particle are derived as a function of the mass of the intermediate scalar boson, the mass of the long-lived neutral particle, and its cτ from a few centimeters to one hundred meters. In the case that the intermediate scalar boson is the SM Higgs boson, its decay branching fraction to a long-lived neutral particle with a cτ approximately between 0.1 and 7 m is excluded with a 95% confidence level up to 10% for mZd between 5 and 15 GeV.

Verification of the validity of WRF model for wind resource assessment in wind farm pre-feasibility studies

In this paper, we compare and verify the prediction accuracy and feasibility for wind resources on a wind farm using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, which is a numerical weather-prediction model. This model is not only able to simulate local weather phenomena, but also does not require automatic weather station (AWS), satellite, or meteorological mast data. To verify the feasibility of WRF to predict the wind resources required from a wind farm pre-feasibility study, we compare and verify measured wind data and the results predicted by WAsP. To do this, we use the Pyeongdae and Udo sites, which are located on the northeastern part of Jeju island. Together with the measured data, we use the results of annual and monthly mean wind speed, the Weibull distribution, the annual energy production (AEP), and a wind rose. The WRF results are shown to have a higher accuracy than the WAsP results. We therefore confirmed that WRF wind resources can be used in wind farm pre-feasibility studies. © 2015 The Korean Society of mechanical Engineers.

This paper represents a design for a hybrid rectangular and circular waveguide resonator. The resonator is designed specifically for the purpose of granular dielectric measurements, which resonates at 2.45 GHz. The electric field distributions of the proposed resonator will be compared against ordinary resonators, and illustrated using a 3D computer simulation of isosurfaces and their contours and 3D projections. In this simulation the properties of samples (paddies and soils) are loaded into each design, in order to observe the electrical field distributions of each sample. Next, the probability density functions (PDF) and cumulative distribution functions (CDF) shall be used to determine the probability of electric field distributions within each type of resonator. Each designed resonator was created in order to process real experiment circumstances. The experiments for each resonator were processed using 20 paddy samples and 20 soil samples, in order to replicate real circumstances in an efficient manner. The percentages of moisture content (%MC) from each design were compared against %MC obtained using dry weight methodology, used to find errors. From the results, mean square error (MSE) shows that the hybrid resonator can improve output greater than the ordinary resonators, which are the rectangular resonator and circular resonator, with 78.738% and 63.213% respectively for paddy sample, and 70.605% and 46.520% respectively for soil sample, respectively. This demonstrates that the proposed resonator creates better results than the ordinary resonators, although the sample is changed. © 2015 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

We report on the discovery of a merger-driven starburst at z = 1:52, PACS-787, based on high signal-to-noise ALMA observations. CO(5-4) and continuum emission (850μm) at a spatial resolution of 0.3" reveal two compact (r1/2 ∼ 1 kpc) and interacting molecular gas disks at a separation of 8.6 kpc thus indicative of an early stage in a merger. With a SFR of 991 Mo yr-1, this starburst event should occur closer to final coalescence, as usually seen in hydrodynamical simulations. From the CO size, inclination, and velocity profile for both disks, the dynamical mass is calculated through a novel method that incorporates a calibration using simulations of galaxy mergers. Based on the dynamical mass, we measure (1) the molecular gas mass, independent from the CO luminosity, (2) the ratio of the total gas mass and the CO(1 - 0) luminosity (αCO ≡ Mgas/L'CO1-0), and (3) the gas-to-dust ratio, with the latter two being lower than typically assumed. We find that the high star formation, triggered in both galaxies, is caused by a set of optimal conditions: a high gas mass/fraction, a short depletion time (τdepl = 85 and 67 Myrs) to convert gas into stars, and the interaction of likely counter-rotating molecular disks that may accelerate the loss of angular momentum. The state of interaction is further established by the detection of di_use CO and continuum emission, tidal debris that bridges the two nuclei and is associated with stellar emission seen by HST/WFC3. This observation demonstrates the power of ALMA to study the dynamics of galaxy mergers at high redshift. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Human running motion can be modeled using a spring-loaded inverted pendulum (SLIP), where the linear-spring-like motion of the standing leg is produced by the joint stiffness of the knee and ankle. To use running speed control in the SLIP model, we should only decide the landing placement of the leg. However, for using running speed control with a multi-joint leg, we should also decide the joint angle and joint stiffness of the standing leg because these affect the direction of the ground reaction force. In this study, we develop a running control method for a human-like multi-joint leg. To achieve a running motion, we developed a running control method including pelvis oscillation control for attaining jumping power with the joint stiffness of the leg and running speed control by changing the landing placement of the leg. For using running speed control, we estimated the ground reaction force using the equation of motion and detected the joint angles of the leg for directing the ground reaction force toward the center of mass. To evaluate the proposed control methods, we compared the estimated ground reaction force with the force measured by the real robot. Moreover, we performed a running experiment with the developed running robot. By using ground reaction force estimation, this robot could accomplish the running motion with pelvic oscillation for attaining jumping power and running speed control.

Emotion is a mental condition that appears spontaneously based on self-conscious effort and usually followed by physiological changes. Emotion is especially caused by stimulation. The related information with emotional condition by someone is communicated to all body through ECG. Therefore, it is important to conduct a research in analysis of emotion based on the measurement of ECG. Data emotion was categorised according to the stimulation that had been given to the subject by using video and music as long as ECG recorded. ICA method analysis with FastICA algorithm could be developed to obtain emotion feature. Feature classification was based on statistical approach from the independent component with higher of kurtosis value. The proposed method in classification was based on decision tree using Random Forest algorithm. The classification result shows that the emotional recognition based on ECG signals can be well implemented by system. The developed method successfully classifies the emotional condition from ECG signals. The method achieves the accuracy of 92.2% for identification of neutral emotion, 93.9% for negative emotion and 92.1% for positive emotion. The value of ICSI is obtained about 81.2% for neutral conditions, 88.3% for negative emotions and 85.1% for positive emotions, it means that the system is successfully to classify individually and effective for overall. © 2014 IEEE.
