This study investigated how the addition of hydrophilic TiO2to a porous asymmetric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane altered its properties and performance. The hydrophilicity and flux of PVDF and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) combinations will be lower, and TiO2will significantly impact raising those values. By mixing titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles with a pore-forming agent in a dope solution, PVDF-TiO2-PVP membranes were prepared via non-solvent-induced phase inversion method. Experiments using PVDF membranes with varying concentrations of TiO2(0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2% wt) were applied to evaluate pure water flux and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) flux. The functional group composition of membranes was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The wettability of porous membranes was determined by measuring contact angles. Results demonstrated that membranes constructed from PVDF/PVP/TiO2with a lower loading of TiO2nanoparticles had a smaller mean pore size, more apertures inside the membrane, and better membrane hydrophilicity. The highest flux of pure water (121 L/m2h) was achieved by the PVDF-TiO2-PVP mixed-matrix membrane at a TiO2concentration of 2 wt%. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a comparison between two LDOs (Low Dropout Regulators) developed for a PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) responsible for powering a 32-bit microcontroller based on the RISC-V microarchitecture, designed in 22 nm technology. The microcontroller will be integrated with a radio frequency interface for IoT (Internet of Things) applications. Two LDOs were designed: one with external compensation and the other a capacitor-less LDO. Both operate with an input voltage of 2.5V, an output voltage of 0.8V, and a maximum current of 150mA. The externally compensated LDO exhibited greater stability in response to load variations and a higher PSRR (Power Supply Rejection Ratio), while the capacitor-less LDO demonstrated faster regulation speed and occupied a chip area similar to the externally compensated LDO.

The Equilibrium Optimiser(EO)has been demonstrated to be one of the metaheuristic algorithms that can effectively solve global optimisation *** the paradox between exploration and exploitation operations while enhancing the ability to jump out of the local optimum are two key points to be addressed in EO *** alleviate these limitations,an EO variant named adaptive elite-guided Equilibrium Optimiser(AEEO)is ***,the adaptive elite-guided search mechanism enhances the balance between exploration and *** modified mutualism phase reinforces the information interaction among particles and local optima *** cooperation of these two mechanisms boosts the overall performance of the basic *** AEEO is subjected to competitive experiments with state-of-the-art algorithms and modified algorithms on 23 classical benchmark functions and IEE CEC 2017 function test *** results demonstrate that AEEO outperforms several well-performing EO variants,DE variants,PSO variants,SSA variants,and GWO variants in terms of convergence speed and *** addition,the AEEO algorithm is used for the edge server(ES)placement problem in mobile edge computing(MEC)*** experimental results show that the author’s approach outperforms the representative approaches compared in terms of access latency and deployment cost.

It is undeniable that microplastics are found in many types of water, including drinking water. This study aims to investigate the presence of microplastics in one of the drinking waters widely used by communities in Indonesia, known as unbranded refilled drinking water. The investigation was conducted at eight unbranded refilled drinking water depots in Karawang, West Java. A total of 2.00 L of raw air and processed water samples were taken from each depot, then prepared by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, analyzed using an Olympus BX - 41 microscope with a magnification of ten times, and then counted manually. The results showed that raw and processed water in all unbranded refilled drinking water depots contained microplastics with details of 15.50-42.00 particles/L and 6.50-17.50 particles/L, respectively. The dominant microplastics found were fibers and fragments with sizes of 1.00-3.00 mm and less than 1.00 mm. Furthermore, the dominant color of the microplastics was black, indicating that the polymers of microplastics were polyethylene, polypropylene, or polystyrene. This finding has confirmed that refilled drinking water consumed by the community in Indonesia has potentially become one of the main pathways for the entry and accumulation of microplastics into the human body, posing significant health risks. Based on current research, further research is needed to improve water treatment performance to protect public health. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The limited availability of clean water resources in Gaza Strip is due to the increasing salinity of groundwater, which is due to unbalanced consumption. Furthermore, the increase in the poverty level among the people and the lack of fossil fuel resources, and the high intensity of solar radiation in the strip have grabbed the attention of the authors to think about a suitable alternative to produce potable water via solar energy. This study aims to investigate the linear Fresnel collector (LFC) coupled with a solar still-single effect active system. The solar still was designed to match the LFC output to avoid any heat losses that may decrease the system's effectiveness. A CFD simulation was carried out using Ansys Fluent software to predict temperature and pressure distributions to find out the efficiency of the LFC collector. The results showed that the use of LFC leads to an increase in the efficiency of the solar still, and the daily production of distilled water reaches 1.5 Litre /m2 © 2023 IEEE.

Introduction: Endotracheal suctioning is a procedure to remove pulmonary secretions, which can lead to complications such as hypoxemia. To minimize this risk, a double-lumen pulmonary secretion suction device was developed at the Biomechanics Laboratory of the University of Minas Gerais. The aim of the study is to evaluate the flow of the removal of pulmonary secretions by reducing the cross-section for the passage of mucus, considering catheters with three new, distinct internal cross-sections (circular, semicircular, and curved). Methods: The study was divided into two stages: computer simulations in the software Ansys Fluent using three new internal cross-sections in order to assess the flow rate, secretion removal, and the preparation of solutions of mucus simulators (polyethylene glycol) in three concentrations (semi-liquid, intermediate, and semi-solid) to be aspirated by 12 Fr catheters and by a printed circular catheter in the bench test. Results: It was verified in a bench test that the relationship between shear stress and deformation rate of mucus simulator solutions is not linear and that a suction pressure of less than 300 mmHg, performed by a standard catheter, generates moderate rates of removal of thicker solutions. It is possible to verify, by computer simulations, higher flow rate levels when reducing the length of the circular catheter from 0.5 to 0.4 m. Semicircular catheter produces high flow rates when compared to other proposed catheters. Conclusion: Based on the results obtained, a dual-lumen semicircular catheter can be designed and validated by computer simulation. © 2022, Sociedade Brasileira de Engenharia Biomedica.

Over the past years, electrical energy demand has increased dramatically worldwide. Malaysia being a developing country, the need for electrical energy is expected to rise yearly. Therefore, to prevent the energy crisis and global warming, the Malaysian Government has started to switch focus to renewable energy technologies. This paper will analyse the wake characteristics produced by the vertical axis tidal turbine design. Malaysian waters have shallow depth and low water current speed, contributing to an ideal solution to implement a nested turbine. The numerical analysis compares the wake generated from the actual turbine design and a hypothetical ‘actuator’ cylinder which represents vertical axis tidal turbine. The simulation result has been validated with other studies which brings about the understanding of the wake generated from nested turbine and ‘actuator’ cylinder. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. The objective of this study was to determine the determinants between Community-Based Total Sanitation and the incidence of diarrhea in toddler at communities near rivers. This study used a quantitative approach with cross sectional design. The sample consisted of 76 mothers who have toddler with the sampling technique by accidental sampling. Primary data obtained directly from interviews using questionnaires and direct observation to respondents. The independent variable was Community-Based Total Sanitation which includes the behavior of open defecation, drinking water and food management, household waste management, and household waste water management. The results showed that only household wastewater management was significant with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p value 0,0000;OR 5,2), while, open defecation (p value 0.118), drinking water and household food management (p value 1,000), household waste management (p value 0,979) was not related to the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Toddlers in households with poor wastewater treatment were 5,2 times more likely to have diarrhea. The conclusion is household wastewater management was significant with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers, so that innovative efforts are needed so that the community improves their waste management. This is useful for preventing the occurrence of diarrhea in toddlers. © 2022
