Central government role in road infrastructure development and economic growth in the form of future study: the case of Indonesia

Road infrastructure development in a country has been considered an important predictor of economic development and prosperity. Hence applying a systematic analysis approach, this study aims to project the future role of the central government in developing road infrastructure and its significance in the country's economic growth. The main data sources were the literature review and expert opinions in the form of self-administrative surveys and interviews. Besides, the Cross-impact Direct Influence (CDI) matrix was applied to formulate the questionnaire. For the data analysis purpose, MICMAC analysis and Scenario Wizard software were used. The MICMAC analysis results revealed the dominant role of 9 important/key variables in developing the Indonesian road infrastructure. Simultaneously 24 positive states of the important variables what identified via the Scenario-Wizard Method. Findings also depicted stronger consistency among the four scenarios. Whereas Scenario 1 showed the most ideal 9 key features related to Indonesia’s road infrastructure developments with a high intensity of concentrating the efforts on planning road infrastructure development in big cities and use of smart and modern technology. Moreover, presenting a group of constructs for developing road infrastructure and resultant economic growth in the country, the current study adds value to the existing literature. © 2023, The Author(s).

Variable Length Multi-Objective Whale Optimization for Trust Aware Data Gathering in Wireless Sensor Network

Efficient data collection in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is crucial. While traditional approaches rely on stationary data sinks, the use of mobile sinks, like unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has shown promise in enhancing data-gathering capabilities. However, existing methods often overlook the importance of trust, leaving the network susceptible to malicious or faulty nodes. To address this issue, we propose a novel trust-aware data-gathering algorithm, Variable Length Multi-Objective Whale Optimization Data Gathering (VLMOWO-DG). Our algorithm simultaneously optimizes energy consumption, delay, and trust while employing mobile sinks to collect data from sensor nodes. By considering trust as a key performance metric, we improve data reliability and security. The VLMOWO-DG algorithm introduces flexibility through variable-length solution representation and application-oriented operators, allowing for efficient exploration of the solution space. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm significantly outperforms established benchmarks, NSGA-II and NSGA-III, in terms of domination and hypervolume. This leads to a remarkable improvement of 200% in data gathering performance. © 2015 The Authors.

The study aims to analyze the effectiveness of wastewater treatment by using Carica papaya seeds as bio coagulants to diminish total suspended solids (TSS) and excess phosphate. This method has some advantages because it does not use chemical materials, is simple to apply, and is safe for the environment and human health. The wastewater samples were taken from an active laundry site in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province of Indonesia. The study found that the best dosage of coagulant was 3 g for the wastewater samples. The pH and BOD parameters showed slight changes after treatment, with pH 7.63–7.19 and 33–27 mg/L values, respectively. The TSS removal efficiency ranged from 9.3 to 15.6%, while the COD and phosphate removals were obtained from 11.7 to 39.3% and 56.3 to 68.4%, respectively. The treated TSS, COD, and phosphate concentrations have met the Indonesian domestic wastewater quality standard and environmental protection organization (EPO) guidelines. Polymer-based dampening layer application to improve the operating shock tolerance of hard disk drive

This paper discusses a passive vibration control method to improve the shock tolerance of hard disk drives (HDDs) in operating condition (op-shock tolerance). Past works in improving the HDDs’ op-shock tolerance includes (i) parking the head when shock is detected, (ii) installing a lift-off limiter, (iii) structural modification of the suspension, and (iv) installing an external vibration isolation. Methods (i) and (iv) have practical issues, method (ii) works only on single shock direction, and method (iii) requires major engineering design/manufacturing work. Compared to these works, this paper proposes a method which has no practical issues and without requiring major engineering design/manufacturing work. The proposed method is to apply a polymer-based dampening layer on the backside of the baseplate with the purpose of increasing the damping ratio of the 1st bending mode of the baseplate. The location of the dampening layer on the baseplate is first determined by modal analysis and then fine-tuned by non-op-shock tests. The op-shock tolerance improvement is confirmed by op-shock tests where 2.5″ HDD with the dampening layer on the baseplate can withstand a 300G 0.5-ms shock without failure while unmodified HDD can only withstand 250G 0.5-ms shock without failure. © 2022, The Author(s).

Business process management has become a critical focus for many manufacturing industries. The function of business process management is to achieve organizational goals through the improvement, management, and control of business processes. A crucial step for companies in visualizing, analyzing, and optimizing workflows is business process modeling. Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is a tool widely used to visualize business process flows. This study employs a qualitative approach, using interviews conducted with seven small and medium-sized industries (SMIs). Important findings identified in SMI, in the recording process, both upstream and downstream processes, are still carried out manually, this is related to the potential for implementing enterprise resource planning (ERP). Regarding the processes on the production floor, in addition to paying little attention to implementing record-keeping systems, SMIs also tend to neglect forecasting methods, warehouse management, and the use of material handling. © 2024 IEEE.

Small and Medium-Scale Industries (SMIs) play a significantly important role in the nation's economy. The adoption of current technology is necessary for SMIs to remain agile amidst industrial changes or challenges. However, they often face limitations in utilizing technology, particularly information technology, in their business processes. One popular integrated information system is the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which connects various business units within an organization into a single integrated system. The implementation of ERP systems in small and medium-scale industries is necessary to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of their business processes. In this paper, we conduct a systematic review of the literature discussing the adoption of open-source ERP systems in SMIs. The conclusion drawn is that ERP implementation in SMIs occurs across various sectors, including services, trading, and manufacturing. Developing open-source ERP systems poses substantial challenges for SMIs. This literature review investigates trends in ERP implementation for SMIs, highlighting current research directions and uncovering new insights and opportunities that can inform future studies. © 2024 IEEE.

Spark Plasma Sintering Using Shuri Castle Breakage Roof Tile Powder

This report investigated the spark plasma sintering (SPS) of Shuri castle breakage roof tile powder for the effective utilization of the Shuri castle breakage roof tiles. First, we examined the fundamental characteristics of Shuri castle breakage roof tiles. The chemical composition of broken roof tiles mainly comprises SiO2. Scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed the dispersion of quartz lumps in the inner structure. Additionally, the density of the broken roof tile was 2.43 g/cm3, and the open porosity was 17.9%, the Vickers hardness (HV) was 87.5 at the matrix side and 1200 at the quartz lump, and the flexural strength was 15.7 MPa. Meanwhile, the fundamental characteristics of the SPS compact formed using breakage roof tile powder comprised a density of 2.68 g/cm3, an open porosity of approximately 0%, an HV of 259, a flexural strength of 105 MPa, and a flexural modulus of 83.1 GPa at a sintering temperature of 1323 K. The formation of magnetite was confirmed via X-ray diffraction patterns of the sintered products;however, the crystalline phases were almost identical to those of the broken roof tile powders. ©2023 Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy.

This research discusses the application of the hyperbolic tangent model for an outer bypass MR damper with a meandering valve, which was developed by one of the authors. The hyperbolic tangent model consists of six parameters. In this study, parameter reduction was carried out using local and global sensitivity analysis, and a parameter identification strategy based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) was employed. The objective function is the relative error between the model's force and the force obtained from experiments with an outer bypass MR damper prototype featuring a meandering valve. The sensitivity analysis identifies an optimal hyperbolic tangent model with two sensitive parameters, while the remaining parameters are determined to be constant. The results show an improvement in accuracy, with the optimal hyperbolic tangent model reducing the error from 8.06 % to 7.1 %. This indicates that the optimal hyperbolic tangent model can be obtained by applying the sensitivity analysis method developed in this research. © 2024 IEEE.

The Energy Efficiency in Industrial, Commercial, and Public Sector (EINCOPS) program is the result of a collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Danida (Danish International Development Assistance), which began in 2008 to support Indonesian government policies in achieving development goals in the field of sustainable environmental management. Energy users have gradually adopted energy efficiency measures in the industrial, commercial, and public sectors, starting with a large class. This research aims to obtain the optimal temperature range for using a chiller machine so that it continues to run efficiently. The method used is to calculate the coefficient of performance and energy efficiency ratio of each chiller when it is used. The number of chillers can be affected by the temperature range of the air handling unit (AHU), which uses wind from the environment as the main source for processing, and the temperature range is linear with weather conditions. This research found that in the environmental temperature range of 26°-29° Celsius taken by AHU for distribution to production areas, chiller performance is still not optimal. In the previous operation, three chillers were used out of the four available units, so after knowing the results of the chiller load analysis in this temperature range were still below standard or not optimal, the number of chillers could be reduced from three units full time to only two units when the temperature environment was in the range of 26°-29° Celsius. The results of calculating the average Coefficient of Performance and Efficiency Energy Ratio using two chillers when the temperature range of 26°-29° Celsius is still included in the standard, namely by increasing 0.15, the pre-improvement value is 5,833, and the chiller efficiency load increases to 14 percent. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus (CLE) is a form of lupus that affects the skin and is highly sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) light. UV-B. in particular. can trigger inflammation and apoptosis in CLE patients. making a sunscreen with effective UVB protection crucial. This study evaluates the effectiveness of zinc oxide (ZnO) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles in sunscreen. ZnO and TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared using the High Energy Milling method. resulting in particle sizes of 7.77 nm and 4.44 nm. respectively. The creams containing these nanoparticles were tested for physical stability and UV protection. Results showed that the creams were physically stable and provided good UV protection. with ZnO and TiO2 nanoparticles making up 12.60% of the total cream ingredients. resulting in the highest SPF (Sun Protection Factor) value of 62.0 ± 1.37. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing.
