The problem of flooding in Central Vietnam in general and the lower Ba River in particular is one of the natural disasters that frequently threatens people's lives and socioeconomic development in the ***,climate change is becoming ever more prominent and hotter,making extreme natural disasters more unusual and *** this research,MIKE-FLOOD—a model that connects a 1-dimensional(1-D)MIKE 11 Hydrodynamics(HD)model with a 2-dimensional(2-D)MIKE 21 HD model—was used to set *** model was calculated for three floods:(1)flood in October 1993,(2)flood in November 2003,and(3)flood in November 2007;these are floods with high frequency and relatively large *** results show that the 1993 flood rose and receded *** flood peak inundated an area of 22,600 ha,accounting for 52%of the natural *** flooded areas deeper than 1,2,3,4,and 5m were 16500,11,000,7000,4200,and 2200 ha,*** the center of Tuy Hoa city,the flooded area at the time of maximum water level was almost 100%.

Alginate-based bioink for organoid 3D bioprinting: A review

As a 3D cell culture, organoids have been researched thoroughly to model the human biology system in advancing disease treatment and drug development. A novel way to create an organoid is using bioink, consisting of polymeric materials and living cells, to fabricate a hydrogel scaffold through the 3D bioprinting method. Alginate has the potential to be developed as a bioink due to its good biocompatibility, low toxicity, and ease of processing method. However, studies are still required to obtain an optimum alginate-based bioink. Alginate is insufficient in terms of the cell-binding site;thus, mixing it with supplementary gelatin material can be employed to optimize further the printability, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility of alginate-based bioink. The addition of gelatin material, in addition to increasing the binding site, also makes the process of making bioink easier due to the thermoresponsive nature of gelatin. The alginate-based bioink can be further optimized depending on gelatin concentration to produce appropriate density and rheological value of bioink. The addition of gelatin into alginate-based bioink will also significantly affect the printability of bioink and the mechanical properties of resulted hydrogel scaffold, which need to be considered appropriately. The alginate-based bioink also showed good biocompatibility regarding cell viability and biological performance. This paper focuses on the relationship between the structure and properties of alginate-based bioink, the 3D bioprinting processing parameters, and the implementation of resulted hydrogel scaffold and organoid. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.

Water hyacinth has become widespread in freshwater bodies in several countries, leading to various issues, particularly its substantial water consumption and the resulting need to control its growth. Among the different methods of controlling water hyacinth, mechanical control stands out as the most effective and environmentally friendly approach. A proposed harvester robot has been developed, capable of efficiently cutting and collecting water hyacinth from the water's surface. The robot boasts several advantages, including its ability to operate in narrow water paths and lakes, use clean energy sources to preserve the water ecology, employ a GPS module for safety and error detection, and generate maps for evaluating work and predicting annual growth. When compared to other technologies dealing with water hyacinth, this innovative water hyacinth harvesting robot presents a significantly lower cost of 0.01 $/kg, making it an optimal solution for addressing water hyacinth problems.

The society often faces a communication barrier with the deaf and mute community due to the lack of sign language translators. Hand gestures are used as a sign language to communicate between the ordinary people and the deaf people. However, the existing way to learn sign language is ineffective and inconvenient. The number of mobile translator applications for the Malaysian Sign Language on the market is less. The proposed system contains a sign detector mechanism using Support Vector Machine (SVM) to detect and interpret Malaysian Sign Language. The software used in this project were IntelliJ IDEA and Android Studio. This project's development consists of four main phases: dataset acquisition, dataset trainer, shape classification, and sign recognition. Each character is tested ten times to measure the performance of the developed system. The application is performed using an Android smartphone and successfully tested with character A to Z in a normal light condition with a maximum distance of 0.7 m. The successfully testing rate of this developed system is 90%. This application allows people to easily communicate with the deaf community because it is user-friendly and does not require an internet connection. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Every electronic device has a disadvantage that is heat generated from the components contained in the device while operating. The heat that occurs during the process can affect the effectiveness of these electronic devices. The cooling fan is directed to a heat source from an electronic device with the aim of maintaining the device's performance temperature. However, the cooling fan used still has some disadvantages in terms of dimensions. Therefore, research on synthetic jets is carried out as an innovation in cooling. This study aims to find wave characteristics as a source. Optimum frequency selection to support cooling. As well as the ideal height of synthetic jets to heat sources. The method used in the research is direct and computer-based data retrieval for CFD. The use of triangular waves as a source of cooling with a frequency of 80 Hz at an altitude of 8 cm can reduce rapidly. However, the lowest final temperature comes from a height of 2 cm which is 28.1 C. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

The potential for future energy crises is a problem the world is currently facing. Many countries are switching from fossil to renewable energy to prevent an energy crisis. One of the most developed renewable energy today is solar energy. Easy installation makes solar energy installation not only on a large scale but also on a home scale. Urban areas will be very suitable for building solar photovoltaic (PV) roofs due to minimal open areas. In installing rooftop solar PV, sound planning is needed to predict the energy potential that can be provided by solar energy on the rooftop of a building. Spatial modeling can be done to determine the energy potential and suitable location for rooftop solar PV installation. In building rooftop solar PV modeling, the level of detail of the building will affect the results of the model. The rooftop's shape and the building's height will affect the amount of solar radiation going into the building. However, the higher the level of detail of the building, the higher the cost and processing time will be. This study will review the differences in modeling the potential of rooftop solar PV using different levels of detail. This research will integrate solar radiation data from remote sensing to determine the energy potential of solar radiation and digital surface model data from photogrammetry to create a level of detail for buildings. Integration of solar radiation data and the level of detail of the building will use hillshade analysis. Hillshade analysis can review the shadow effect on the rooftop of a building which will be directly related to the potential of solar energy on the rooftop of the building. This study determines the energy potential on the rooftop of the building with different levels of detail, namely 0, 1, and actual shape, to determine the difference in energy potential in the three scenarios. Electronic devices and appliances are increasingly becoming a quintessential part of every household with the recent development and innovations in the field of technology affecting the day-to-day lives of individuals. Automation has caught the fame as people struggle to keep up with the demands of work, making it an easy solution to operate devices and machines to meet the individual needs. The paper describes the creation and execution of an affordable, versatile, and safe home automation system that is controlled through a mobile phone. The system relies on an independent Arduino BT board, which is connected to home appliances via relays attached to its input/output ports. Wireless communication is used to connect the mobile phone and the Arduino BT board. The system is designed to be both economical and expandable, allowing for control of a range of devices with minimal changes to its basic structure. The focus of the paper is to explain how to manage and regulate electronic devices using Android smartphones. The paper also outlines a home automation system that prioritizes security and safeguards user privacy. This system is designed to be affordable and flexible, making it possible to control various devices with minimalchanges to its core structure. Additionally, the appliances in the system are protected by passwords to ensure that only authorized users can access them. © 2023 IEEE.

This study investigates the impact of feature selection results using the filter method on the performance of predictive models for the nutritional status of children aged 0-23 months. This study aimed to understand how correlation-based feature selection methods affect the efficiency and accuracy of predictive models. The dataset comes from the Basic Health Research survey, which consists of 84 variables and around 130,000 data, including anthropometric, family, socioeconomic, and environmental information. In this study, various filter-based feature selection methods were applied to evaluate and identify features that have significant relationships with children’s nutritional status, both linearly and non-linearly. The mutual information method was used to identify complex relationships between features and target variables, while the Pearson Correlation Coefficient and information gain were used to assess the relevance of numerical and categorical features. Of the 84 variables in the dataset, 37 features were selected after the selection process. The model performance evaluation was carried out using the Random Forest (RF) and Gradient Boosting (GB) algorithms, by comparing the results between the dataset that had been selected and without feature selection. The RF model without feature selection produces accuracy: 0,84600, precision: 0,83958, recall: 0,84600, F1-score: 0,78962, and a computation time of 9 seconds. The GB model without feature selection produces accuracy: 0,86330, precision: 0,84722, recall: 0,86330, F1-score: 0,84925, and a computation time of 2 minutes 50 seconds. After feature selection and cross-validation, the RF model shows accuracy: 0,85701, precision: 0,83599, recall: 0,85701, and F1 score: 0,83484. The GB model shows accuracy at 0,86124, precision at 0,84226, recall at 0,86130, and F1 score at 0,84120.

Photocatalytic degradation is a promising way to treat emerging pollutants in wastewater. Recently, metal-free photocatalysts such as carbon nitride- and graphene-based materials have attracted much interest in the photocatalytic degradation of emerging water pollutants owing to their visible light activity and unique electrical properties, respectively. Graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) is considered a superior visible light–active photocatalyst because of its suitable bandgap (2.7 eV). Moreover, the facile synthesis process and the high chemical and thermal stability of GCN make it one of the research hotspots in photocatalytic wastewater treatment. Besides GCN, graphene and its derivatives are utilized to support main photocatalysts by enhancing their light absorption, pollutant adsorption, and photogenerated charge separation. Furthermore, the vast modification of these materials has promoted various outstanding performances in carbon nitride- and graphene-based photocatalysts in the application of pollutant degradation. In this review, we highlight recent developments in carbon nitride- and graphene-based photocatalysts (2018–2023), focusing on the strategies to improve the activity of GCN as a visible light–active photocatalyst and the role of graphene and its derivatives as supporting materials in wastewater pollutant remediation applications.

Objectives: Ultraviolet (UV) exposure can hasten the aging process of the skin. The use of chemicals for anti-aging has long-term adverse effects. The natural ingredients of snake fruit (Salacca zalacca L.) are known to have bioactive properties such as polyphenols, flavonoids, chlorogenic acid, and caffeic acid which have antiaging potential. The study aims to ascertain the potential of S. zalacca Extract (SZE) as an antiaging agent by in vitro assay. Methods: The SZE compound content was analyzed by LC-MS/MS. SZE viability test on human skin fibroblast (BJ) cells was carried out using the WST assay. BJ cells were UV-induced as a cell model of premature aging. SZE 6.25, 12.5, and 25 μg/mL were administered to UV-induced BJ cells. The gene expression of COL1A1, MMP-1, FGF-2, and GPX-1 were analyzed by quantitative Real-Time PCR. Elastin (ELN), Hyaluronidase (HAse), Cyclooxigenase-2 (COX-2), 8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), and Melatonin (MT) protein levels were analyzed by ELISA assay. The apoptosis of BJ cells was analyzed using flow cytometry. One-way ANOVA in SPSS Software was used for statistical analysis. Results: Treatment with SZE increased COL1A1, FGF-2, and GPX-1 gene expression and also decreased MMP-1 gene expression. SZE also increased ELN and MT levels in UV-induced BJ cells. After SZE treatment, the protein levels of HAse, COX-2, and 8-OHdG decreased compared to the positive control. SZE also succeeded in maintaining the lives of BJ cells and reducing apoptosis in BJ cells. Conclusions: SZE has the potential to be an antiaging agent by in vitro assay. © 2025 The Authors
