This paper proposes a technique based on a MAT-LAB code capable of getting an optimized preliminary design of an efficient low-speed compressor qualified for laboratory experiments with relatively low cost. The code was made to design five repeated compressor stages on two steps conducted iteratively, namely 'mean line and radial design' to determine the optimum compressor geometry and then the 'off-design' to test the stability of the design in other working conditions. The optimization tool minimizes a flexible cost function which can be changed if needed to get different designs. A certain cost function was chosen, the results of the design corresponding to it lived up to expectations. Some aerodynamic cases were simulated using Ansys to verify the results of the chosen design. © 2021 IEEE.

Original reactive powder concrete (RPC) consists of a large amount of cement, fine sand, crushed quartz, and silica fume, with a very dense matrix achieved by optimizing the granular packaging of the materials. This study, therefore, applied the modified Andreasen & Andersen particle-packing model using Aceh quartzite powder to design a densely compacted matrix and low cement content RPC mixtures. The research involved the preparation of two series of the mixture with different percentages of silica fume and Aceh quartzite powder and the 70.7 mm cube specimens were treated with combined steam curing and normal curing after which their compressive strength was tested at the age of 7 days and 28 days. The result showed the use of 61% local quartzite powder by weight of cement through an optimized mix design and cured treatment improves the RPC strength at any variation of silica fume. © 2021 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Along with technological improvements, online shopping is currently developing quickly. Online shops started by selling electronics, clothing, food, and home appliances and continue to evolve, selling various things. Currently, digital marketing has a novel technique, namely live shopping, where sellers can present, promote and offer their products directly through live streaming on social media and e-commerce platforms. This research will focus on gaining insight into the factors influencing customers to watch and purchase through live streaming. This research is an early-stage study of exploring and searching for research models. The study used a literature review approach by reviewing similar previous research articles. Several variable components were used in this study. The findings of the factors include visibility capacity, meta-vocation capacity, purchase orientation capacity, social presence, price, perceived product quality, perceived enjoyment, purchase orientation, perceived usefulness, and intention to buy. These factors were tested and proved to be valid with Cronbach's Alpha value being more than 0.5 and reliable with the value of the loading factor a greater than 0.6. Criteria The factors of the findings for further analysis of the relationship between factors and other variables. © 2023 IEEE.

Heavy metal and microplastic pollutions are prevalent in freshwater ecosystems, with many freshwater bodies being contaminated by one or both of these pollutants. Recent studies reported extreme detections of Cd, Pb and Zn, high concentrations of Cr, Pb and Cu and microplastics acting as vectors of pollutants, including heavy metals. Mayflies can serve as bioindicators of heavy metal contamination in freshwater ecosystems because changes in their community structure, physiology, and behaviour can reflect and help predict the concentrations of metals in these environments. This review discusses the ecological alterations induced by tissue metal concentration in mayflies and other macroinvertebrates. As sensitive taxa to heavy metal contamination, mayflies can reflect the impacts of this pollution through their ethology and relationship to the substrate, highlighting issues such as eutrophication, alterations in community structure, inhibitory effects and sediment toxicity. Mayflies are also highly affected by microplastic exposure, which leads to ingestion, bioaccumulation, biomagnification, habitat and community alteration, behavioural changes, physiology alteration and toxicity. Mayflies bioindication metrics for assessing the impact of heavy metals and microplastics include the examination of community alteration, functional feeding behaviour, molecular structure, dietary and toxicity impacts, bioaccumulation and biomagnification and biomarkers. Current challenges for the utilization of mayflies as bioindicators include temporal variations in sensitivity, lack of universally recognised protocols and need for standardised protocols for microplastic analysis. Additionally, the applicability of mayflies as bioindicators may vary across different ecosystems, emphasising the need for selecting suitable indicators that align with the unique characteristics of the ecosystem. © 2024 The Authors

Solar tracking systems which can track the Sun movement can increase the power generation rate by maximizing the surface area of the solar panels that are exposed to the sunlight. By utilizing a solar tracker, the number of solar panels needed to generate the same amount of electrical energy will be significantly lower. In general, solar tracking systems are classified as single-axis solar tracking systems and dual-axis solar tracking systems. Several researchers had conducted both simulation and experimental work to compare and evaluate the performance of solar tracking systems against static solar panels systems, as well as between different solar tracking system mechanisms. General agreements among the researchers are that the performance of solar tracking systems is always exceeding that of static solar panels. Some researchers also conducted studies on how the weather conditions affect the performance of solar panels, and they concluded that the systems with tracking mechanisms are more resilient toward a variation of weather conditions. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. This study evaluates bacterial cellulose (BC) membranes reinforced with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NP) derived from pineapple biowaste. While BC membranes are widely studied, their use in aquaculture and ZnO reinforcement remains underexplored. Membranes were synthesized with 0.25–1.0 wt% ZnO-NP and characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR, tensile strength, antibacterial activity, filtration efficacy, and analysis using one-way ANOVA. Results showed ZnO-NP enhanced membrane crystallinity and tensile strength, with 0.25 wt% being optimal. The membranes exhibited improved antibacterial activity, reducing bacterial content by 90.6 % and contaminants by 57 %, enhancing water quality for aquaculture and supporting sustainability and the long-term viability of aquaculture. © 2025

In this study, AlCoCrFeNiTi and AlCoCrFeNiZr high-entropy alloys (HEA) developed for high temperature applications were applied as topcoats of the coating system by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) process, while CoNiCrAlY bond coats were coated by high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) technique. As a result of isothermal oxidation tests performed in the range of 1000 °C–1200 °C, both HEA systems were found to be resistant to oxidation. The rate constant (K_p) and activation energy (Q) values obtained at 1200 °C were calculated as 0.1090 μm²/h/224.6 kJ/mol for AlCoCrFeNiTi and 0.1174 μm²/h/230.2 kJ/mol for AlCoCrFeNiZr, respectively. The findings reveal that the growth kinetics and microstructural evolution of the TGO layer directly affect the oxidation-induced degradation behavior of composite coating systems. The findings indicate that oxidation-induced microstructural changes and the growth behavior of the TGO layer are determinants of coating degradation. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Thermoelectric chalcopyrite-type ZnSnAs2 compound with high power factor for low-grade waste-heat recovery

Chalcopyrite compounds are promising thermoelectric (TE) materials owing to their excellent performance. Adopting a pseudocubic structure is a key strategy to improve the TE performance as it increases the degeneracy at the valence band edge. Herein, the TE properties of a II-IV-V2 group, p-type ZnSnAs2 chalcopyrite with a pseudocubic structure are systematically investigated. Polycrystalline, single phase, stoichiometric ZnSnAs2 was obtained at growth temperatures above 700 ºC. The TE properties of ZnSnAs2 depended on its intrinsic defect concentration, which was influenced by its Zn/Sn ratios. A high power factor value of 2890 μW/mK2 was obtained in Zn-poor Zn0.9Sn1.1As2 at 373 K. The TE figure of merit for the off-stoichiometric ZnSnAs2 reached 0.1 at 573 K. Consequently, a maximum TE conversion efficiency of ∼1 % at a temperature gradient of 300 K was demonstrated for a ZnSnAs2-based single-leg device. These results can accelerate the development of TE technologies for low-energy harvesting. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Biomass is one of the promising sources to produce green H2, which can be considered an energy storage medium. To produce high-purity H2 from biomass-derived syngas, this study implemented a two-stage H2 purification process. In the first stage, a water gas shift reaction (WGSR) was performed to enhance the H2 concentration in the syngas. The Taguchi method was employed to analyze the influence of the operating conditions and maximize the H2 concentration in the water gas shift reaction product. The results suggested that reaction temperature is a more dominant factor for enhancing the H2 concentration than the molar steam/carbon monoxide (S/CO) ratio. In the second stage, vacuum pressure swing adsorption was employed to obtain the high-concentration H2 using the product from the water gas shift reaction having the optimum H2 concentration. Using the adsorption pressure as the primary parameter, it was found that high H2 purity and recovery could be obtained from vacuum pressure swing adsorption operated at low adsorption pressures. Based on this study's results, the vacuum pressure swing adsorption unit's best outcome occurs during an adsorption pressure of 2 kg·cm−2 and a flow rate of 17 L·min−1. Under these conditions, 93.61% H2 purity, 31.63% H2 recovery, 4.86 mol H2·(kgads·h)−1 productivity, and 448.14 kJ·(kg H2)−1 energy consumption are obtained. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Bacterial infections and multidrug-resistant bacteria are major health burdens in wound *** antimicrobial agents,e.g.,ε-polylysine(ε-PL),provide a broad spectrum of antibacterial properties and support dermal cell ***,ε-PL was incorporated into polycaprolactone(PCL)/gelatin electrospun scaffolds collected at varying rotation ***,the samples were crosslinked using dopamine hydrochloride to provide highly proliferative dressings with broad antimicrobial *** morphological study showed that the electrospun wound dressings were smooth,continuous,and bead-free,with a mean diameter ranging from 267±7 to 331±8 nm for all random and aligned *** fiber alignment of the electrospun PCL/gelatin scaffolds improved their tensile strength and ***,nanofiber mats are highly hydro-philic,which is crucial for an efficient wound *** samples also demonstrated high antimicrobial properties against common wound bacterial strains,including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA),Staphylococcus aureus(SA),Escherichia coli(EC),Acinetobacter baumannii(AB),and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(PA).Mammalian cell prolifera-tion and morphology assays involving primary human dermal fibroblasts(hDFs)and immortalized keratinocytes(HaCaT)showed excellent biocompatibility of the electrospun mats and remarkably aligned ***,aligned mats showed more cell migration than randomly oriented mats,which is desirable for more efficient wound ***,it can be concluded that aligned PCL/gelatin mats containingε-PL are promising for potential use in wound dressings.
