Indonesia has the world's largest Muslim population, so the potential for Zakat, Infaq, and Sadaqah (ZIS) funding is enormous. The existence of ZIS in the current Covid-19 pandemic is of extreme importance, as issues such as economic crisis, social inequality, and the rise of dhuafa (poor) are becoming more and more visible. However, in the presence of coronavirus, ZIS has become more challenging to manage and distribute. Bans on gatherings, distancing rules, and other restrictions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus make ZIS more challenging to manage. Therefore, we need innovations to build bridges between people in need and supporters. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one system that can bridge this. In this system, IoT enables machine-to-machine communication and reduces human interaction. This research uses IoT to support Rice Vending Machine with high accuracy. The accuracy is achieved using five load cells and a good rice way-out valve mechanism. In previous machines using a single load cell or open the valve according to a certain time. Based on its test results analysis and MAPE values, we found the machine's accuracy facing obtained very well, and the website monitoring was also very effective. This research provides innovation in ZIS management and dramatically benefits society.

Inverse problems frequently occur when boundary conditions/thermal properties of a material are unknown, and are determined from known internal temperature measurements. A direct problem is the opposite of an inverse problem. For example, it would be the task of determining the temperature field within a material body, given boundary conditions and thermal properties. In an ill-posed, inverse problem, small variations in internal temperature measurement cause large variations in the estimated quantity such as boundary heat flux. Measured temperature variations may be due to noise, measurement error and instrumentation error, among other factors. There are various methods for solving inverse problems in materials engineering. In the paper, an inverse problem of estimating boundary heat flux for one-dimensional heat conduction is solved using the classical method of Beck and temperature dependent thermal conductivity is estimated using the more recent and advanced Conjugate Gradient method (CGM). The temperature values from the finite difference application to a direct heat transfer problem are used along with noise added to the data, in order to simulate real world, experimental conditions. The data is applied to the inverse problem of finding boundary heat flux and thermal conductivity. It is seen that Conjugate Gradient Method (CGM) along with sequential function specification method recovers the boundary heat flux and thermal conductivity quite accurately for noise levels of 1% and 2%. It is further observed that addition of future time steps stabilize the algorithm and increase accuracy of the desired results. It is also observed that CGM can recover the temperature dependent thermal conductivity quickly within few iterations, for different values of thermal conductivity function coefficients, k0and k1. CGM is found to be fast and robust when applied to one-dimensional case and can be extended to complex geometries. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd.

This paper presents a novel feature-based global localization method for underwater terrain aided navigation (UTAN) using Bag of Words (BoW). Before the mission, the prior bathymetric map is segmented into submaps, and the handcrafted terrain gradient features are extracted from the submaps. Subsequently, a BoW is trained using these features, and the submaps are indexed accordingly. During the UTAN mission, place recognition is achieved by matching the index of the newly collected submap with the indexes of the submaps in the database, and the vehicle pose is determined using TEASER++ registration method. Experimental results using a sea trial dataset demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve a fast and robust global localization without requiring the prior initial vehicle pose information, offering robustness against substantial initial positioning and heading errors.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is widely used in electrochemistry, energy sciences, biology, and beyond. Analyzing EIS data is crucial, but it often poses challenges because of the numerous possible equivalent circuit models, the need for accurate analytical models, the difficulties of nonlinear regression, and the necessity of managing large datasets within a unified framework. To overcome these challenges, non-parametric models, such as the distribution of relaxation times (DRT, also known as the distribution function of relaxation times, DFRT), have emerged as promising tools for EIS analysis. For example, the DRT can be used to generate equivalent circuit models, initialize regression parameters, provide a time-domain representation of EIS spectra, and identify electrochemical processes. However, mastering the DRT method poses challenges as it requires mathematical and programming proficiency, which may extend beyond experimentalists’ usual expertise. Post-inversion analysis of DRT data can be difficult, especially in accurately identifying electrochemical processes, leading to results that may not always meet expectations. This article examines non-parametric EIS analysis methods, outlining their strengths and limitations from theoretical, computational, and end-user perspectives, and provides guidelines for their future development. Moreover, insights from survey data emphasize the need to develop a large impedance database, akin to an impedance genome. In turn, software development should target one-click, fully automated DRT analysis for multidimensional EIS spectra interpretation, software validation, and reliability. Particularly, creating a collaborative ecosystem hinged on free software could promote innovation and catalyze the adoption of the DRT method throughout all fields that use impedance data. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.

In this innovative practice work-in-progress paper, enrollment data from five institutions was used to examine equity in undergraduate research through Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) programs. VIP is a model for undergraduate research in which large student teams are embedded in faculty-driven projects. The American Association of Colleges and Universities recognizes undergraduate research as a high-impact experience, associated with higher graduation rates and greater learning gains in college. Participation in multiple high-impact experiences yields cumulative gains to students from all backgrounds, and compensatory gains for minoritized and marginalized students. Nationally however, minoritized students, first-generation college students, and transfer students participate in undergraduate research at lower rates than their peers. In this study, VIP enrollments at five institutions (N = 6,651 over two semesters) were compared to demographics of the institutions to determine the degree to which programs achieved equity among historically underserved minorities, transfer students, first-generation college students, and by gender. Analysis accounted for demographics and level of participation of the academic units involved, comparing enrollments with what would be expected under equitable enrollment. Analyses were done for each institution and across the pooled sample. By institution, equity across categories varied. Across the pooled sample, results show small effects sizes for status as a historically underserved minority, very small effect sizes for first-generation students and transfer students, and slightly higher participation among women than men. The large-scale nature of VIP teams enables institutions to scale-up their undergraduate research offerings. This paper begins answering the question of whether this scaling increases access for marginalized populations, and the results are encouraging. This study proposes a direct teaching method for the task of pressing an end effector attached to a robot manipulator against a workpiece with a constant force. When performing contact tasks, such as deburring or polishing using a manipulator, a passive compliance is required for the end effector to suppress excessive contact force and impact. Therefore, we developed an end effector that combines a “parallel wire-type teaching device,” which enables direct teaching, and a compliance device. In the case of pressing a workpiece with a constant force, after teaching the robot's trajectory to trace the edge of the workpiece, the amount of pressing can be calculated from the stiffness of the end effector and the desired pressing force; the robot's trajectory can be edited to teach contact tasks. An experiment was conducted to press a straight trajectory with a constant force as the target value and evaluate the accuracy of force teaching.

A simple one-step solvothermal approach has been adopted for the synthesis of SnS2. SEM shows hierarchically SnS2 with petal-like 3-dimensional layer structures because of this process. In this investigation, the as-prepared electrode material have an excellent specific capacitance of 721F g−1 at 1 mVs−1, indicating extraordinary performance. The improved electrochemical performance is because to unique ultrathin petal discrete structure, which provides increased electrolyte/electrode interface, high active sites, rapid ion/electron transfer, and short diffusion distances. A manufactured symmetric solid-state supercapacitor (SSC) device also has a large capacity to operate commercial LEDs, which allows for the assessment of its practical applicability in device-level application. According to the findings of this work, suitably layered 3D SnS2 electrode materials could be a promising route for the development of environmentally friendly energy storage applications. © 2022

A square cylinder may gallop if subjected to fluid flow experiencing a self-excited vibration mode that can harvest energy for low-power applications. The harvested power is typically low and depends on the upstream flow velocity and system dynamic parameters. In this study, the influence of nonlinear stiffness induced by two repulsive magnetic poles on the galloping response of a square rod is investigated at a mass ratio of 10 and a Reynolds number of 200. The vibration response of two identical coaxial square rods with magnetic poles attached to their opposite ends is analyzed. Two simplified configurations are selected to model the magnetic forces: a pair of identical monopoles and a pair of identical dipoles. Results show that the magnet configuration and strength significantly affect the vibration amplitude and the onset flow velocity. A weak magnetic force can enhance vibration and reduce onset flow velocity, while a stronger pair of dipoles may push the bistable system to a state of low-amplitude vibration with a mean displacement. The influence of magnets in this configuration has potential as a control technique for energy harvesting applications. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we consider a scheduling issue for parcel delivery and pickup services by a truck-drone last-mile delivery system. We are given a single carrier truck and multiple identical drones to serve a finite set of customers. The single carrier truck plays the role of a mobile depot for the drones, and it visits several stops in a given order of them. The given order of stops constitutes a fixed truck route, and the carrier truck is allowed to launch (resp., to retrieve) a drone to (resp., from) a customer at a stop. For each sortie of a drone, the launching stop and the retrieving stop must be the same. The load capacity of a drone is limited to one, and for a sortie of a drone at a stop, there are three options: (i) only deliver a parcel to a customer, (ii) only pick up a parcel from a customer, and (iii) deliver a parcel to a customer, and then pick up a parcel from a customer. The scheduling problem asks to find an assignment of customers to drones with sortie options and a choice of a truck stop for each sortie in the assignment. The objective is to minimize the total duration of the carrier truck over all the stops, which is equivalent to minimizing the makespan. In this paper, we first propose an extended integer program for the case with both delivery and pickup services from an existing one for the case with delivery service only. We also conduct numerical experiments to demonstrate the solution quality of the proposed integer program by utilizing an integer programming solver, and report the results.
