Autonomous trajectory tracking control method for an agricultural robotic vehicle

To address the nonlinearities and external disturbances in unstructured and complex agricultural environments,this paper investigates an autonomous trajectory tracking control method for agricultural ground ***,this paper presents the design and implementation of a lightweight,modular two-wheeled differential drive vehicle equipped with two drive wheels and two caster *** vehicle comprises drive wheel modules,passive wheel modules,battery modules,a vehicle frame,a sensor system,and a control ***,a novel robust trajectory tracking method was proposed,utilizing an improved pure pursuit ***,an Online Particle Swarm Optimization Continuously Tuned PID(OPSO-CTPID)controller was introduced to dynamically search for optimal control gains for the PID *** results demonstrate the superiority of the improved pure pursuit algorithm and the OPSO-CTPID control *** validate the performance,the vehicle was integrated with a seeding and fertilizing machine to realize autonomous wheat seeding in an agricultural *** outcomes reveal that the vehicle of this study completed a seeding operation exceeding 1 km in *** proposed method can robustly and smoothly track the desired trajectory with an accuracy of less than 10 cm for the root mean square error(RMSE)of the curve and straight lines,given a suitable set of parameters,meeting the requirements of agricultural *** findings of this study hold significant reference value for subsequent research on trajectory tracking algorithms for ground-based agricultural robots.

With the advances in microfluidics, electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD) chips have widely been applied to various biological and chemical laboratory protocols. Glass-based EWOD chips with nonregular electrodes are proposed, which allow more reliable droplet operations and facilitate the integration of optical sensors for many biochemical applications. Furthermore, nonregular electrode designs are utilized in EWOD chips, e.g., interdigitated electrodes for more reliable droplet manipulation, custom shaped electrodes for specific applications like concentric heating, etc. However, due to the technical challenges of fabricating multilayer interconnection on the glass substrate, e.g., unreliable process and high cost, both control electrodes and wires are fabricated with a single-layer configuration, which poses significant challenges to pin selection for nonregular electrodes. In this article, we propose a minimum-cost flow-based routing algorithm called NR-Router+ that features efficient and robust routing for single-layer EWOD chips with nonregular electrodes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that overcomes the aforementioned challenges. We construct a minimum-cost flow algorithm to generate optimal routing paths followed by a light-weight model to handle flow capacity. A grid reduction strategy is proposed to reduce the computational overhead. Additionally, a flow collocation algorithm based on integer linear programming is presented to efficiently prevent wire overlapping. Experimental results show that NR-Router+ achieves 100% routability while minimizing wirelength with shorter run time. Moreover, NR-Router+ can generate mask files feasible for manufacturing via adjustments of design parameters, thus demonstrating its robustness and efficiency. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

The addition of surface acoustic wave(SAW)technologies to microfluidics has greatly advanced lab-on-a-chip applications due to their unique and powerful attributes,including high-precision manipulation,versatility,integrability,biocompatibility,contactless nature,and rapid ***,the development of SAW microfluidic devices is limited by complex and time-consuming micro/nanofabrication techniques and access to cleanroom facilities for multistep photolithography and vacuum-based *** simplify the fabrication of SAW microfluidic devices with customizable dimensions and functions,we utilized the additive manufacturing technique of aerosol jet *** successfully fabricated customized SAW microfluidic devices of varying materials,including silver nanowires,graphene,and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS).To characterize and compare the acoustic actuation performance of these aerosol jet printed SAW microfluidic devices with their cleanroom-fabricated counterparts,the wave displacements and resonant frequencies of the different fabricated devices were directly measured through scanning laser Doppler ***,to exhibit the capability of the aerosol jet printed devices for lab-on-a-chip applications,we successfully conducted acoustic streaming and particle concentration ***,we demonstrated a novel solution-based,direct-write,single-step,cleanroom-free additive manufacturing technique to rapidly develop SAW microfluidic devices that shows viability for applications in the fields of biology,chemistry,engineering,and medicine.

This investigation addresses a range of critical challenges within the domain of mechanical engineering and anticipates their potential impacts. The study’s goals include developing methods for detecting tool breakage in integrated milling-turning machines, evaluating the service life of punching machine components, and determining the durability of molds in forging equipment, alongside other complex issues. The primary aim is to devise a specialized equipment health diagnostic system, designed for complex industrial environments. Industry consultation has revealed that effective monitoring strategies and threshold values must be tailored to the specific characteristics of each piece of equipment and their respective sectors. Despite the metal processing industry lagging roughly a decade behind the semiconductor sector in adopting intelligent monitoring systems, it encounters similar hurdles. These include shrinking labor demographics necessitating increased reliance on shift-based external labor, higher turnover rates impacting the retention of skilled workers for essential tasks such as tool replacements and machinery maintenance. Furthermore, there is a pressing need to maintain traceability for the usage history of molds and punching heads, especially to meet aerospace industry regulations. In response, the sector aims to accomplish two primary goals for its critical production machinery: firstly, to implement diagnostic tools for evaluating the wear and overall quality of tools and molds;secondly, to shift from time-based to condition-based maintenance protocols, adaptable to the frequent mold changes required for varied product fabrication. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Long-term solar radiation forecasting in India using EMD, EEMD, and advanced machine learning algorithms

Solar radiation plays a critical role in the carbon sequestration processes of terrestrial ecosystems, making it a key factor in environmental sustainability among various renewable energy sources. This study integrates two advanced signal processing techniques—empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD)—with machine learning (ML) algorithms, including multilayer perceptron (MLP), random forest regression (RFR), support vector regression (SVR), and ridge regression, to forecast long-term solar radiation. Meteorological data spanning 13 years (2000–2012) from seven locations across India (Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Patna, and Trivandrum) were used for training and testing. The optimal model was identified based on performance metrics, including the highest linear correlation coefficient (R), and the lowest mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE). The results indicate that EEMD integrated with ML algorithms consistently outperformed EMD-based approaches. Among the ML models evaluated, EEMD integrated with MLP achieved the best performance across all locations, with RMSE = 0.332, MAE = 0.26, and R2 = 0.99. Furthermore, a comparative analysis with previous studies demonstrated that the proposed approach provides superior accuracy, underscoring its efficacy in solar radiation forecasting. © The Author(s) 2025.

Large eddy simulation of channel flows based on IPDG method and subgrid model estimation

Based on the method framework of the high-accuracy interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin (IPDG) finite element，combined with large eddy simulation (LES)，a numerical simulation study was conducted on channel flows. Four different subgrid scale models (Smagorinsky model，Smagorinsky model with Van Driest damping function， wall-adapting local eddy-viscosity （WALE） model， and dynamic model) were employed，and the simulated Mach numbers were 0.2 and 0.7，corresponding to incompressible flow and weak compressible flow， respectively. The results indicated that， within the improved IPDG-LES framework，the Smagorinsky model exhibited lower accuracy due to its excessive dissipation characteristics within the boundary layer. The Smagorinsky model with a dumping function can improve the accuracy but still exhibited excessive viscosity near the wall. The results of WALE model and dynamic models generally outperformed the aforementioned Smagorinsky models and were closer to the reference data，with the dynamic model performing the best overall. Additionally，different models led to similar performances at Mach numbers of 0.2 and 0.7，indicating good adaptability of current IPDG-LES method to weak compressible flows. © 2025 Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA). In permissioned blockchain networks,the Proof of Authority(PoA)consensus,which uses the election of authorized nodes to validate transactions and blocks,has beenwidely advocated thanks to its high transaction throughput and fault ***,PoA suffers from the drawback of centralization dominated by a limited number of authorized nodes and the lack of anonymity due to the round-robin block proposal *** a result,traditional PoA is vulnerable to a single point of failure that compromises the security of the blockchain *** address these issues,we propose a novel decentralized reputation management mechanism for permissioned blockchain networks to enhance security,promote liveness,and mitigate centralization while retaining the same throughput as traditional *** paper aims to design an off-chain reputation evaluation and an on-chain reputation-aided ***,we evaluate the nodes’reputation in the context of the blockchain networks and make the reputation globally verifiable through smart ***,building upon traditional PoA,we propose a reputation-aided PoA(rPoA)consensus to enhance securitywithout sacrificing *** particular,rPoA can incentivize nodes to autonomously form committees based on reputation authority,which prevents block generation from being tracked through the randomness of reputation ***,we develop a reputation-aided fork-choice rule for rPoA to promote the network’s ***,experimental results show that the proposed rPoA achieves higher security performance while retaining transaction throughput compared to traditional PoA.

This work proposes a solution for the problem of training physics-informed networks under partial integro-differential equations. These equations require an infinite or a large number of neural evaluations to construct a single residual for training. As a result, accurate evaluation may be impractical, and we show that naive approximations at replacing these integrals with unbiased estimates lead to biased loss functions and solutions. To overcome this bias, we investigate three types of potential solutions: the deterministic sampling approaches, the double-sampling trick, and the delayed target method. We consider three classes of PDEs for benchmarking;one defining Poisson problems with singular charges and weak solutions of up to 10 dimensions, another involving weak solutions on electro-magnetic fields and a Maxwell equation, and a third one defining a Smoluchowski coagulation problem. Our numerical results confirm the existence of the aforementioned bias in practice and also show that our proposed delayed target approach can lead to accurate solutions with comparable quality to ones estimated with a large sample size integral. The application of digitalization in manufacturing involves using sensors to collect and transmit large amounts of data in real-time. These complex, timestamped sequence data require effective analytical support to drive the generation of analysis summaries. Visual analysis helps researchers identify hidden patterns by intuitively displaying complex data, but its implementation relies on specialized knowledge and a deep understanding of data analysis techniques. Moreover, the analysis process often requires users to recall and process large amounts of information, which increases the complexity of the analysis. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for intelligent visual analysis technology. Large language models, with their powerful reasoning, summarization, and code generation capabilities, provide the possibility of visual analysis for general users. We propose a large language model-based multi-agent framework that integrates domain knowledge to achieve an automated data analysis workflow, from data acquisition to analysis summarization, helping users extract valuable analytical results from complex data and improving both efficiency and experience. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
