The revolutionary effects of computational learning and artificial intelligence (AI) on materials science and engineering - particularly in the field of high-performance fiber -reinforced polymer (FRP) composites - are examined in this article. Efficiency, accuracy, and innovation have significantly increased as a result of the integration of AI and machine learning (ML) approaches across the product lifecycle, from material selection and development to manufacturing process optimization and property prediction. AI-powered deep generative models in material design speed up the development of novel composite formulations, while automated fiber placement and Physics-Informed Machine Learning (PIML) improve manufacturing processes to guarantee consistent quality and cut costs. The large-scale dataset-based predictive models have significantly enhanced mechanical property prediction, simplified material selection and cut down on experimental testing expenses and time. Sustainability, efficiency, and performance in material research and production will be fueled by the ongoing advancements in AI and computational learning, which will further transform material science by allowing the design and production of superior composites suited for contemporary industrial applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Amidst the rising incidences of stroke and spinal cord injuries, this study introduces a Virtual Reality (VR) system integrated with wearable sensor-based motion capture technology to enhance rehabilitation and assessment of upper limb impairments. The proposed motion capture system utilizes Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) engineered in a modular and portable fashion to best fit different rehabilitation needs of the motor control system. The wearable sensor system consists of 15 modules capable of capturing the entire human body motion, along with a pair of hand gloves including 11 miniature sensors measuring hand motion. The sensor accuracy test demonstrates a Root Mean Square Error below 1.78 degrees compared to measurements collected by a commercial robotic arm. Incorporating detailed data of human joints' motion collected by the array of wearable sensors, the proposed VR system provides additional tools for assessments of the motor control system function, including range of motion, reachable workspace, motor learning, along with rehabilitative intervention games. The developed system provides a foundation for an AI-driven autonomous rehabilitation system, integrating automated clinical assessments with quantitative tools and adaptive difficulty algorithms for personalized interventions, applicable in both clinical-based and home-based settings. © 2024 IEEE.

Silicon carbide fiber reinforced silicon carbide matrix(SiC_(f)/SiC)composite is the key cladding material of nuclear fuel,which determines the safety and reliability of nuclear fuel storage and *** replacement of its storage and transportation scenario needs to be completed by the manipulator,but the application of SiC_(f)/SiC wear,fracture,and nuclear leakage in the snatching process of brittle-flexible-rigid contact in the irradiation environment has been seriously restricted due to unclear understanding of the damage ***,the effects of irradiation dose and clamping load on the friction characteristics of the contact interface between SiC_(f)/SiC clad tube are studied in this paper,and the effects of irradiation parameters and clamping force on the static friction coefficient of the contact interface between the clad tube and flexible nitrile are *** on the Greenwood-Williamson tribological model,a numerical model of the shape and structure of the contact micro-convex at the micro-scale of the clamping interface is constructed by introducing the multi-surface integral,and finally verified by *** research results show that there is a unique“Irradiation suppression zone”under the clamping condition of SiC_(f)/SiC cladding tube under the nuclear irradiation environment,and the growth of static friction coefficient slows down until stagnates after irradiation reaches a certain extent(600 kGy),and there will be a decline when the irradiation dose continues to increase,among which the clamping force of 15.2 N within the irradiation interval of 1,000 kGy can meet the safety of nuclear environment *** results of this paper can provide an important theoretical basis and application guidance for the safe operation of SiC_(f)/SiC cladding tubes in the storage and transportation clamping process.

The automated operation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has become increasingly important, and one key step in the procedure is the accurate landing of such vehicles. A major problem is that when trying to design a control algorithm for the landing procedure, it is difficult to accurately measure the 3D pose of the vehicle with respect to the local environment. Three dimensional pose estimation and subsequent corrections in velocity to design the control system was omitted by using an image-based visual servoing controller. Another important development is choosing the appropriate visual features which ensures convergence to desired position. The proposed controller with image moments as features was able to converge and land the vehicle accurately using only the image moments as the visual features from two fiducial markers without any local position or global position information. The proposed method has been verified using simulations considering an existing model of UAV. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The new diversion of research in the field of engine modification is reactivity-induced compression ignition (RCCI). Researchers recommend that RCCI is the solution for regulating pre-mixed combustion, thereby promoting lean air–fuel mixture combustion. It is also suitable for low-temperature operations. The combination of lean mixture and low-temperature operations leads to a reduction of the oxides of nitrogen and particles of soot production during combustion. This paper analyses the principle and methodology of RCCI and compares its performance with homogeneous controlled compression ignition (HCCI). An intensive literature review is done and a concluding report is compiled. This will be an essential content for researchers who pursue their experimental and analytical work in RCCI. The future scope of RCCI can be extended to alternate fuel sources such as biodiesel ethanol and natural gas by adopting HCCI concepts. However, there are a few limitations in this, such as higher HC and CO emissions, which may necessitate oxidation catalysts. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

This paper presents the design and development of a low-cost and user-friendly Bengali braille embosser for the visually impaired population in Bangladesh. To produce braille text, the embosser employs a shifting mechanism and an Embosser head, both controlled by an Arduino microcontroller. A software has also been developed to allow users with basic printer knowledge to operate the embosser. Access to educational resources and reading materials is limited for people with disabilities in Bangladesh, and the availability of Bengali braille writing machines is scarce. The proposed solution aims to address these challenges and improve the learning and communication capabilities of visually impaired individuals. © 2024 IEEE.

The exponential growth in online reviews offers a company the most precious source of information regarding the customers' emotions and potential product improvement areas. However, it is very challenging to derive meaningful information from the unstructured data. The work presents a new model called Aspect-Optimized Adaptive GCN (AOA-GCN), which combines hierarchical structuring with aspect-based optimization for effective consumer sentiment analysis. The AOA-GCN applies a two-level analysis framework that covers both global sentiments and detailed aspect-specific sentiments in order to build a full understanding of the customer review. The model is essentially based on an Adaptive Lightweight GCN with pruning techniques, ensuring that it does not only reduce computations but also takes into account influential aspects along with its high accuracy, even across extended datasets. Dynamic attention in AOA-GCN will help make critical product features in the customer reviews focus on the issues so improvements can be made on those products specifically. Experimental results show that the improved performance is actually as high as 6.45% over global sentiment classification, 9.12% over aspect-based sentiment analysis, and 7.35% over cross-domain generalization, and training time is reduced by 35%. The model also exhibits improved interpretability with clearer insights into customer preferences. The proposed AOA-GCN becomes an effective, efficient, and interpretable business tool for optimizing products through insights from consumers. © 2024 IEEE.

Remanufacturing of automotive components involves restoring cores from end-of-life vehicles (ELV) to a condition where the component can be used again. Implementing image processing technique in the visual inspection stage is used to reduce cost and time while increasing accuracy. This research aims to perform real-time surface visual defect detection that is simpler and less costly which commonly uses machine learning and/or deep learning techniques. The methods used in this research are a combination of image processing and computer vision techniques to great effect. The techniques used are a pixel-based contour detection and image subtraction. For this research, connecting will be the sample component to test the algorithm. This approach will take less time to train since it compares the non-defective connecting rod image with the defective connecting rod. The defects that are tested in this research are cracks and buckles, which commonly occur in connecting rod failure due to high load and stress. There are different settings of threshold and illumination that were tested, such as different thresholds of 50, 60, and 70, also illumination colour temperatures such as white, natural, and warm. After 270 trials with different settings and defects, the proposed algorithm achieved a 93% accuracy using a 70 per cent threshold and white light (3000–3500 K). The findings suggest that the implementation of a pixel-based contour detection through image subtraction holds promise as a cost-effective alternative to utilizing machine learning and/or deep learning techniques. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
