The automated pest detection project is a web application designed to assist farmers in identifying plant diseases and providing suitable solutions. The application utilizes a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model trained on a dataset comprising five classes for disease detection and 24 classes for disease classification. By leveraging image classification techniques, the app enables users to upload images of plants or crops that they suspect may be affected by diseases. Once an image is uploaded, it is sent to the server for analysis. The CNN classifier model is applied to the image, which then detects the presence of any disease and classifies it into the appropriate category. The identified disease is then displayed to the user along with recommended solutions to address the issue. The web application is built using Streamlit, a popular Python library for creating interactive web apps. Streamlit allows for seamless integration of the trained model and provides a user-friendly interface for farmers to easily upload images and receive disease detection results. This application empowers farmers to quickly identify plant diseases, facilitating timely intervention and promoting crop health. Formal strategies are getting more and more crucial within the design, verification, and validation of computer architectures and future hardware systems. Formal strategies provide a scientific approach to specification, verification, and validation of PC architectures, which allow engineers to carefully prove residences of laptop architectures that do not rely upon their specific implementation. Via using formal strategies, designers can rapidly and effectively increase computer architectures;by lowering the want for manual debugging, designers can reduce time to market and growth performance. This paper proposes a formal strategies-based approach for the development of PC architectures and future hardware systems. The technique gives a unified framework for the automated verification of laptop architectures that mixes formal good judgment, hardware synthesis, and verification. It is finished by the usage of summary models of the designs to offer an executable form of the design that's used for verification and validation. The method is then carried out in detail to the Intel IA-sixty-four architecture, an example of computer architecture. The formal models are used to derive hardware from the layout automatically and to check that the generated hardware satisfies the specs. The outcomes of the paintings suggest that formal techniques may be used to boost the improvement of computer architectures with improved accuracy and performance. Furthermore, the automation of the verification process makes it quicker and simpler to develop computer architectures, allowing engineers. © 2024 IEEE.

Design of electric powertrains to achieve NVH performance using autoencoders and a physical meaningful latent space

One of the fundamental differences in the perception of electric (e-) vehicles is how their radiated noise is perceived with respect to classic internal combustion engines. Even though e-vehicles are usually quieter, the tonal content of the radiated noise can be more annoying. This paper proposes a novel approach that starts from the assumed radiated noise spectrum profile as input to a neural network that can return powertrain design parameters that would lead to generation of that specific noise profile. The proposed network acts as an autoencoder where the latent space is forced to have a physical meaning. As diverse combinations of powertrain parameters can result in similar noise profiles, a variational autoencoder is used to learn a structured latent representation, ensuring continuity and smooth transitions between possible solutions. The network predictions are validated against results of a three-dimensional CAE e-powertrain model. Overall, the mean absolute error is around 5 dBA for this feasibility study, which aims to demonstrate the concept. This work takes an inverse approach to the optimisation problem by starting from the user-perceived noise to predict the parameters required to achieve that. Although this study focuses solely on gear teeth microgeometry changes and bearing preloads, additional powertrain parameters could be incorporated as needed. © The Author(s) 2025.

The electrolysis of renewable energy to produce hydrogen has become a strategy for supporting a decarbonized economy. However, it is typically not cost-effective compared to conventional carbon-emitting methods. Due to the predicted intermediate of low-and zero-marginal-cost renewable energy sources, the ability of electrolysis to connect with electricity pricing offers a novel way to cost reduction. Moreover, renewables, particularly photovoltaics, have a deflationary effect on the value of the grid when they are deployed. This study investigates solar electrolysis configurations employing photovoltaic cells to feed a proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer for hydrogen production. Using experimental meteorological data at 1-min precision, the system has been evaluated in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. Positioned at the yearly optimum tilt angle for the selected site, the solar array is rated at 12 kWp. Temperature effects on solar module energy loss are taken into account. Several electrolyzers with capacities ranging from 2 to 14 kW in terms of hydrogen production were examined to determine the efficacy and efficiency of renewable sources. MATLAB was utilized for the simulation procedure, with a 2021-2035 project lifespan in mind. The results suggest that a variety of potentially cost-competitive options exist for systems with market configurations that closely approximate wholesale renewable hydrogen. At 4313 h of operation per year, the planned photovoltaic array generated 18,892 kWh of energy. Place recognition is a critical capability for autonomous vehicles. It matches current sensor data with a pre-built database to provide coarse localization results. However, the effectiveness of long-term place recognition may be degraded by environment changes, such as seasonal or weather changes. To have a deep understanding of this issue, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation study on several state-of-the-art range sensing-based (i.e., LiDAR and radar) place recognition methods on the Borease dataset, which encapsulates long-term localization scenarios with stark seasonal variations and adverse weather conditions. In addition, we design a novel metric to evaluate the influence of matching thresholds on place recognition performance for long-term localization. Our results and findings provide fresh insights to the community and potential directions for future study. IEEE

Smartphones offer a wide range of applications globally, and usability is a key factor in their quality. Human-computer Interaction (HCI) continuously evolves to enhance usability by improving user interface (UI) components. However, most UI trends are designed for literate users, neglecting a significant portion of the population who cannot read or write. These users often rely on others for assistance with smartphone applications, and text-based UIs hinder their learning and usage, reducing overall usability. This research addresses the limitations of text-based standards by introducing a standardized framework for developing text-free user interfaces for smartphones. The framework utilizes static and dynamic images instead of text to convey widget or button functions, aiming to enhance usability for illiterate users, including preschoolers. Developed with Obeo Designer and Sirius, the framework's Platform Independent Metamodel (PIM) was validated through case studies representing the target user groups. Future work involves Model to Text (M2T) transformation, and results show the framework's potential for automating applications with text-free UIs. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper reports on an empirical study that investigated the effect of frequency on the acuity of spatial localization on the skin of the forearm, as well as differences in localizability at different locations on the forearm. Three actuators were positioned in a 3 × 1 array along the forearm, and two adjacent actuators were sequentially activated with a 100 ms interstimulus interval, followed by activation of one of the three actuators in random order. Participants were asked about the direction of the second stimulation relative to the first one, and whether it was perceived in the same location as the first, below, or above it. Three frequencies — 100Hz, 200Hz, and 250Hz — were used for the stimuli. Results show that the frequency of the stimulus has a negligible influence on accuracy when the amplitude is kept constant. However, significant differences in the localization accuracy were found at different parts of the forearm. This study provides valuable insights into the design of tactile displays for conveying information on the skin. It suggests that spatial resolution may be optimized by positioning the actuators appropriately, rather than by manipulating the frequency of the stimulus. Copyright © 2023 by ASME.

Steganography involves concealing text-based secret data within non-text files such as image, audio, or video files, with the extraction of the hidden data taking place at its destination. This avoids detection. Therefore, it becomes challenging for anyone to detect the presence of a concealed message within the image, highlighting the increasing importance of data privacy in contemporary times. The primary objective of Steganography is to enable clandestine communication between two individuals, typically involving the processes of encoding and decoding. This project specifically focuses on image Steganography, allowing the encoding and decoding of data within an image file. Through the utilization of steganography, an individual can conceal a substantial amount of text, comprising thousands of words, within a standard-sized image. To implement this Steganography approach, Python Image Library (PIL) is employed in conjunction with the Tkinter framework. LSB (Least Significant Bit) steganography techniques are applied for encryption and decryption functionalities. The primary goal is to create an application that employs LSB insertion to encode data within a cover image and, in a user-friendly manner, decode the original message from the embedded image. Additionally, AI-based encryption methodologies are integrated to enhance data security and fortify the concealment of information within the images, showcasing the synergy between advanced encryption techniques and traditional steganographic methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Numerical simulation and optimization of a circular open channel for fish farming using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Open canals are one of the most common and cost-effective methods in water supply networks;they are widely used in different industries such as agriculture, water and sewage treatment, urban drainage, pisciculture and water parks. Due to global warming, the demand in clean energy to replace fossil fuels has caused using water turbines in riverbeds and aqueducts to be important. On this basis, optimizing key parameters such as flow motion and canal turbulence is crucial to reduce breakdowns while designing canals. In fact, the inappropriate adjustment of velocity and pressure within the canals may lead to the system failure: imbalance between inlet and outlet will increase the water level and the pressure on canal walls thus, leading to breakdown. In this paper, a circular open canal was designed for a pisciculture system. The velocity and height of the water canal is controlled by the canal inlet and outlet system and the water flows continuously inside the canal. By keeping the canal water volume constant in any time and the flow motion with constant velocity, the system makes the fishes feel infinite movement. Furthermore, the water particles and impurities (e.g., food and fish feces) are removed by the outlet from the canal bottom, transferred to the filtration system, and returned to the fish farm by the canal inlet after the filtration procedure;the mentioned technique causes the water canal to be kept at its optimal level. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used to simulate the canal flow. Solving the Navier-Stokes equations numerically and assuming incompressible, unsteady, and two-phase flow, the parameters of the canal flow were extracted. Also, by mounting the system outlet along the path of water movement, greatly reduces the adverse effects of the outlet suction force on the canal main flow. Moreover, by dividing the canal inlet with guide vanes, the inlet has been modified for the entrance of the clean water simultaneously with the distribution

Toward a Neural Network-Based Approach for Improved Atmospheric Infrasound Localization

Accurate infrasound localization represents a challenging problem in acoustics that yields many important applications. Current methods for distance and altitudinal localization have only been evaluated in limited short-range scenarios and fail to take full advantage of real-time atmospheric surroundings to maximize accuracy. We develop a neural network architecture that uses both the local acoustic pressure and atmospheric data to produce accurate localization predictions including the lateral distance and altitude of an infrasonic source, using only a singular-sensor arrangement for a more flexible and practical implementation that can be transferred to real-time aerial detection. To improve generalizability, we train our neural network in a variety of atmospheric conditions and conduct validation testing on samples generated from designated hold-out atmospheric profiles. We generated a comprehensive infrasonic raypath dataset using an experimentally validated infrasound raytracing tool, a technique inspired by other fields where controlled data is difficult to obtain in real life. A preliminary comparison with existing infrasound localization methods in similar conditions demonstrated that our neural network-based approach approximately halved both median distance and altitudal localization errors. These promising results highlight the potential of our neural network-based approach to significantly enhance infrasound localization accuracy across diverse atmospheric conditions. Future steps would involve more thorough validation and benchmarking of the model in real-world scenarios to detect any trends in localization error that were not captured in this work. © 2013 IEEE.
