This study proposes an Efficient Storage Solution for Video Surveillance Archives by leveraging Anomaly Detection and Video Interpolation techniques. Large volumes of data are stored by traditional video surveillance techniques, which can be expensive to maintain and take a long time to access. The project introduces a modular architecture that integrates advanced technologies, including a MobileNetV2-based anomaly detection model, frame dropping, and video interpolation techniques. In this approach, video streams are captured and subjected to uniform frame dropping to reduce storage requirements while preserving important details during anomalies. The project incorporates a cache management system to store video blocks, prioritizing anomaly blocks for immediate persistence. Persistent storage uses MinIO with a structured folder hierarchy based on date and time, facilitating efficient retrieval and post-event analysis. Additionally, a video interpolation module restores the original frame rate on demand, ensuring smooth video playback without compromising storage optimization. The project aims to bridge the gap between increasing storage demands and the limitations of traditional surveillance approaches, offering an efficient solution for modern video surveillance challenges. The project is evaluated on benchmark datasets on storage efficiency and video metrics like PSNR and SSIM. © 2024 IEEE.

EMG signals and machine learning enable the automation of gesture recognition for addressing challenges faced by amputees in daily life. This review analyses diverse approaches within EMG-based gesture recognition and hand prosthesis control. Shifting muscular intention into natural control offers numerous applications which include helping amputees regain their functioning to completely changing the way we interact with digital surroundings. It highlights advancements in this dynamic field, emphasizing its applications in human-computer interaction, prosthetics and assistive communication. The review focuses on techniques that improve accuracy and robustness which are essential for wider accessibility. Additionally, it explores the potential impact on industries beyond healthcare such as AR/VR, prosthetic hand control, human-machine interaction and sign language recognition. The performance of hybrid approaches and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in gesture recognition tests demonstrates a high degree of accuracy. Overall, EMG-based gesture recognition offers significant promise in driving innovations that enhance quality of life and promote inclusivity. The addition of surface acoustic wave(SAW)technologies to microfluidics has greatly advanced lab-on-a-chip applications due to their unique and powerful attributes,including high-precision manipulation,versatility,integrability,biocompatibility,contactless nature,and rapid ***,the development of SAW microfluidic devices is limited by complex and time-consuming micro/nanofabrication techniques and access to cleanroom facilities for multistep photolithography and vacuum-based *** simplify the fabrication of SAW microfluidic devices with customizable dimensions and functions,we utilized the additive manufacturing technique of aerosol jet *** successfully fabricated customized SAW microfluidic devices of varying materials,including silver nanowires,graphene,and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS).To characterize and compare the acoustic actuation performance of these aerosol jet printed SAW microfluidic devices with their cleanroom-fabricated counterparts,the wave displacements and resonant frequencies of the different fabricated devices were directly measured through scanning laser Doppler ***,to exhibit the capability of the aerosol jet printed devices for lab-on-a-chip applications,we successfully conducted acoustic streaming and particle concentration ***,we demonstrated a novel solution-based,direct-write,single-step,cleanroom-free additive manufacturing technique to rapidly develop SAW microfluidic devices that shows viability for applications in the fields of biology,chemistry,engineering,and medicine.

A comparison of two hybrid optimization techniques: the Taguchi-BBD-firefly and the Taguchi-regression-firefly methods on the IS 2062-E250 steel plates boring problem

The expanding proliferation of components for engineering applications requires greater optimisation of parameters, which consequently increases the need for more efficient boring practices. The Taguchi Pareto-Box Behnken design is an effective optimisation procedure for the process parametric optimisation of the IS 2062 E250 steel plates. However, the weakness of the Taguchi method in its inability to distinguish which parameters have greater effects on the boring process needs to be further suppressed. Consequently, this study investigates the coupling of the firefly algorithm to the Taguchi-Pareto-Box Behnken design method for the processing of the IS 2062 E250 steel plates during the boring operation. Linear programmes were developed for the problem formulation with two variants of the objective function definition. In the first variant, the Box Behnken design optimized parameters and the firefly-oriented optimisation procedure was addressed to attain optimal solutions. For the second variant, a regression equation was substituted as the objective function and the firefly procedure was implemented to obtain the optimal solutions. Based on a defined population for the problem, an initial test of convergence was actualized and 50 iterations were found as an effective convergence point for the iterations. Numerical simulation coupled with experimental data analysis was conducted to ascertain the effectiveness of the proposed method. Literature data on IS 2062 E250 steel plate processing on the CNC machine was used in the testing. The results revealed that the proposed method exhibits good performance for boring operations in machine shops. Using the Taguchi-Pareto-Box Behnken-firefly algorithm, the obtained results are promising. The application of this proposal would aid machining to better decisions that improve the quality of products and reduces the cost of production. © 2023, The Author(s).

Model-Free Safety Critical Model Predictive Control for Mobile Robot in Dynamic Environments

Within the context of Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) design for autonomous mobile robots, which face challenges such as parametric uncertainty and measurement inaccuracies, focusing on dynamic modelling and parameter identification becomes crucial. This paper presents a novel safety-critical control framework for a mobile robot system that utilises NMPC with a prediction model derived entirely from noisy measurement data. The Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics (SINDY) is employed to predict the system's state under actuation effects. Meanwhile, the Control Barrier Function (CBF) is integrated into the NMPC as a safety-critical constraint, ensuring obstacle avoidance even when the robot's planned path is significantly distant from these obstacles. The closed-loop system demonstrates Input-to-State Stability (ISS) with respect to the prediction error of the learned model. The proposed framework undergoes exhaustive analysis in three stages, training, prediction, and control, across varying noise levels in the state data. Additionally, validation in Matlab and Gazebo illustrates that the NMPC-SINDY-CBF approach enables smooth, accurate, collision-free movement, even with measurement noise and short prediction times. Our findings, supported by tests conducted with the Husky A200 robot, confirm the approach's applicability in real-time scenarios. IEEE

Transportation of petroleum-based products is a complex and hazardous logistics process. Selecting the appropriate transportation vehicles for this process is crucial for ensuring safety and efficiency. Therefore, prioritizing selection criteria and choosing the most suitable fuel tanker is essential in reducing potential risks and improving overall fleet operations. Given the many types of tankers available for petroleum product transportation, decision-makers should employ a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach to identify the best option for their specific needs. This study introduces a novel MCDM approach that combines the Weighted Aggregated Sum Product Assessment (WASPAS) and the Criteria Importance through Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC) in a Fermatean fuzzy (FF) environment, addressing five main criteria and evaluating five fuel tanker alternatives. Using this approach, the research identified and prioritized key criteria for selecting an appropriate tanker model by providing insights into 24 sub-criteria. The results reveal that tanker price emerges as the most important sub-criterion, leading us to determine the M3 tanker model as the most suitable fuel tanker after carefully evaluating all 24 different sub-criteria. The findings can significantly assist petroleum firms in making informed decisions when choosing fuel tankers by considering various technical, operational, comfort, environmental, and economic factors. Active thermal balance control for improving orientation error of vertical machine tool spindle

In this study, a thermal balance control method by local heating on the spindle head structure of a vertical milling machine was proposed to improve the squareness error of the Y-Z plane. Thermal deformation and temperature distribution of the spindle head structure was analyzed to determine the key positions on the structure for prediction and control of the spindle pose. A long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network with time series characteristics was used to build the in-situ spindle tilt error prediction model. The particle swarm optimization algorithm was integrated with a neural network model to dynamically determine and find temperature control targets in local positions on the spindle head. Finally, the temperatures at selected local locations of spindle head was adjusted by elective heating to suppress thermal bending and improve the spindle tilt on the Y-Z plane. The proposed method was verified using a five-axis vertical milling machine. The experimental results showed that the proposed method could effectively maintain the spindle tilt in the Y direction at [10, −10] μrad after long-time operation of the spindle at both 7200 and 12,000 rpm. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.

This work focuses on the estimation of elbow joint angles from electromyography (EMG) signals and investigates the use of machine learning models in rehabilitation robotics. Four distinct machine learning algorithms were tested for their capacity to precisely translate EMG inputs into actuator commands: Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Naive Bayes (NB), Linear Regression (LR), and Decision Trees (DT). The models were trained and tested using a dataset generated by a wireless EMG sensor and motion capture system that recorded the dynamic relationship between elbow movements and related muscle activations. The results show the remarkable 98.7% accuracy of the ANN model, indicating that it can be a valuable tool for real-time rehabilitation robotics applications. Additionally, NB, LR, and DT displayed competitive results that demonstrated their unique capacities to manage a range of sensor inputs. The discussion highlights how important these models' interpretability, computational efficiency, and continuous adaptation are to their successful integration into real-world rehabilitation settings. This work contributes to the field of rehabilitation robotics by applying machine learning models for accurate actuation control based on EMG signals. The findings demonstrate how these models could enhance the accuracy and responsiveness of assistive technology, offering individuals with partial paralysis customized and adaptable rehabilitation regimens. © 2024 IEEE.
