Impellers are extensively employed across various industrial sectors and in different industrial systems, such as ducted-fan modules. The configuration of ducted-fan modules can be optimized to achieve high impeller performance, safe and stable operation, and high operational efficiency. This study designed two ducted-fan modules with axial impellers composed of airfoil cascades by using the Fan Calculator software program to analyze their performance and efficiency. The study discovered that the module efficiency varied with the internal impeller diameter, external impeller diameter, and rotational speed. An increase in the outlet angle of the blade tip caused increases in the power generated by, pressure change produced in, and flow rate of the modules, thereby enhancing fan efficiency and module performance. The study makes two contributions. First, it constructed two ducted-fan modules with axial impellers by using the duct to isolate the blades, thus increasing the safety and stability of the fan. Second, it explored the performance and efficiency of impellers with airfoil cascades to enhance fan efficiency and optimize the design of a ducted-fan module. © 2024 SPIE.

This paper proposes a method to estimate the posture of an athlete moving on a vast field in a sporting event using a pan-tilt-zoom camera. In order to estimate the posture of an athlete on a sports field from a dynamic video sequence, our method extracts image features to search correspondence points among successive frames and computes the homography transformation matrix that compensates for changes the camera parameters (e.g., angle of view and posture). The effectiveness of this method is qualitatively verified using MLB TV broadcast video. The accuracy and error factors are also quantitatively verified by CG simulation. Manganese-boron steels are widely used in hot stamping, resulting in 1500 MPa (PHS 1500) or even 2000 MPa (PHS 2000) tensile strength after the hot stamping process. These steels are most commonly used in industry in the form of AlSi-coated sheets. However, recent developments are being made to enable the application of uncoated steels, resulting in cost reduction, but bringing technological challenges to be overcome. The coefficient of friction (µ) is a fundamental parameter in sheet metal forming and is influenced by several factors, such as: surface roughness, working temperature, lubrication, contact pressure and sliding speed. In hot stamping, it is known that the temperature can have a great influence on µ values for coated plates, but there is little information about uncoated steels. This work aims to investigate the tribological behavior of uncoated PHS 2000 steel plates using the pin-on-disk test. Tests were carried out under three temperatures (800 °C, 600 °C and 400 °C) and contact pressures of 5 and 10 MPa. Results showed that the friction coefficient tends to reduce with increasing temperature at a pressure of 5 MPa, as result of oxide formation on the steel’s surface. However, at a pressure of 10 MPa, this reduction was not observed. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The impingement of fuel sprays on the piston surface significantly affects mixture formation, combustion performance, and pollutant emissions in Direct-Injection Spark-Ignition (DISI) engines. To better understand the fuel adhesion behavior, the fuel adhesion characteristics of fuel spray impinging on the flat wall under cross-flow condition were investigated in this work. Refractive Index Matching (RIM) were employed to observe the propagation of fuel adhesion. Then the area, mass, and thickness of fuel adhesion were evaluated under various cross-flow velocities. Also, the propagation mechanism and lifetime prediction of fuel adhesion under the cross-flow conditions were revealed. The experimental results can provide necessary guidance on the operating conditions of airflow inside the engine. © 2022 by the Japan Society of mechanical Engineers All rights reserved.

This study aims to give an accurate estimate of the effective thermal-mechanical properties of a coreless circuit substrate for advanced IC packages. To achieve the goal, a subdomain-based effective method is proposed, incorporating a sub-domain three-dimensional (3D) copper trace mapping and modeling (TMM) method, a volume-averaging rule of mixture (ROM) technique and finite element modeling. Furthermore, the proposed effective method is combined with an FEA-based process simulation framework to investigate the process-induced warpage of a flip-chip chip scale package during fabrication. At last, parametric analysis is performed to identify the crucial factors influencing the process-induced warpage of the package. © 2023 Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging.

Alternative fuel recovery from used engine lubricant(UEL)and empty fruit bunch(EFB)was achieved through microwave ***-pyrolysis was chosen for its potential to improve the quality of pyrolytic oil by generating synergistic effects between two distinct feedstocks,reducing activation energy,and enhancing pyrolytic oil *** central composite design(CCD)of response surface methodology(RSM)was used to optimise the temperature and EFB *** absorption spectrometry(AAS)was employed to characterise the heavy metal concentration in the pyrolytic *** optimised pyrolytic oil(UE450)produced the highest oil yield(25.17 wt%)with the lowest metal concentration at 450℃with a 50%EFB *** fuel’s characteristics were similar to those of conventional diesel,with a higher value of HHV(45.17 MJ/kg).However,the oil was slightly acidic,with a pH of ***-MS analysis of UE450 revealed the presence of alkanes and monoaromatic-rich ***,the UE450 biochar was characterised using FTIR,FESEM,and *** analysis showed that the carbonyl group(C=O)peaks at 1730 and 1440 cm^(-1)disappeared,indicating that heavy metals were bound to the biochar ***,XRF analysis of UE450 biochar revealed that zinc(Zn)exhibited a high metal adsorption capacity,following the sequence Zn>Fe>Pb(1.96,1.06,and 0.81 mmol/g).The XRF results also indicated a significant removal of SO_(3)at approximately 10.37 mmol/g.

Modeling of an external force estimator for an end-effector of a robot by neural networks

This paper proposes a method to estimate external forces at the tip of a robot end-effector by using a neural network model. In order to avoid the use of an expensive force sensor in the training purpose, the proposed method implements the indirect training method by including the inverse dynamic model of the robot manipulator to the training algorithm with available information from a default robot system. In this method, the robot dynamics equations are necessary for the training, therefore a disturbance observer is adopted to deal with the existing uncertainties and errors. The performance of the proposed estimation method is evaluated through experiments of a 5-DOF robotic experimental platform, comparing to another existing estimation method using recurrent neural network with a type-1 disturbance observer for the external force estimation. The estimation results show that the behavior of the estimated external forces strongly correlates with the applied external forces and the proposed method is superior to the other method. © 2023 The Chinese Institute of Engineers.

Nowadays, Implementing Industry 4.0 (I4.0) has become an urgent mandate in manufacturing enterprises to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of production processes. Six design principles (DP) must be considered to meet the challenges of integrating I4.0 beside the emerging advanced manufacturing technologies (AMT). This paper summarizes the analysis and investigation into the importance of I4.0 side readiness that enables the customization of AMT with the DP. The principal aim of this paper is to support manufacturing enterprises by incorporating AMT with the DP, thus helping these enterprises identify their specific requirements for implementing industry 4.0/ smart manufacturing. A model of estimating side readiness by adopting the DP incorporating customizing AMT is also analyzed and presented. Water hyacinth has become widespread in freshwater bodies in several countries, leading to various issues, particularly its substantial water consumption and the resulting need to control its growth. Among the different methods of controlling water hyacinth, mechanical control stands out as the most effective and environmentally friendly approach. A proposed harvester robot has been developed, capable of efficiently cutting and collecting water hyacinth from the water's surface. The robot boasts several advantages, including its ability to operate in narrow water paths and lakes, use clean energy sources to preserve the water ecology, employ a GPS module for safety and error detection, and generate maps for evaluating work and predicting annual growth. When compared to other technologies dealing with water hyacinth, this innovative water hyacinth harvesting robot presents a significantly lower cost of 0.01 /kg, making it an optimal solution for addressing water hyacinth problems. © 2023 IEEE.

Accurate displacement calculation in the laminated iron cores of electric machines is important for the accurate prediction of noise generation in the electric machines. The authors proposed a modeling method of displacements due to magnetostriction in the laminated iron core using a homogenization model with equivalent anisotropic magnetic and elastic parameters. The calculated displacements obtained from the homogenization model are compared with those of the real laminated iron core model, and the solid core model neglecting the laminated structure. The homogenization model shows good agreement with the real model. © 2023 IEEE.
